Not bad at all. I would like to suggest using one of those cake coms to smooth the icing. Then your cake would look smooth. Nice finishing touch with the hershey's spikes, lol. very nice.

quick tip i found in my cook book was to put the cakes in the refrigerator before cutting or decorating it so the cakes wont break...most likely you already knew that and you didnt have enough time to put it in the refrigerator but just in case you didnt know im just letting you know cause i never knew that and my cakes always broke:)

I am going to attempt this cake today for my sons 1st birthday!!

I was thinking maybe if u were to turn the tray over , instead of puttin the cake in the tray the way you have it ,it would have worked great also :)..that way there would have been no sides to get in the way , for when its time to ice the cake :)..just an idea, maybe for next time :)

That cake is adorable! I think that is so neat that you make B-day cakes for your sons. Making your own tastes better than store bought and is more special. My Mom, sisters, and I still make cakes for special ocassions. It is definetely worth the extra time.

You did a great job creating the birthday cake. My best birthday memories are the cake that my parents made, not the store brought cakes. Whenever I try to ice a cake I cut, I always get crumbs in the icing. Did not know about crumb coating and freezing the cake.
