so annoying watching Nadal's topsin monkey game succeding at Wimbedon, anyway, glad he lost another final. but already a travesty that he won 2 times there and probably will win more
Any one else noticed how Djokovic and Nadal's rivalry is starting to turn into Federer and Hewitt's............ :(. I want Nadal to somehow see this comment and stop lassoing his forehand on mid-court balls and start hitting through the court because he clearly has the power and my god he has the topspin to take the risk!. STEP IT UP RAFA!!. All the best for 2012 x
Watching this video on what is supposed to be the fastest surface, Nadal's as a whole is everything anti-tennis, just boggles my mind how anyone could enjoy it. No wonder so many Nadal "fans" became one bc they were tired of Fed dominating and that so many understand so little about tennis.
@Swordsman808 I think we all agree here that Nole has had Fed and Rafa's numbers this year, but do not, EVER, call Nadal talentless. Even last year Djokovic was probably better than Murray and Soderling and we all know Federer is better than both of them. Straight setting Murray has been done before by top players a nice bit. The bottom line is it really doesn't matter how poorly or great you play as long as you win. If you play shit the whole tourny and save your best for the finals then so be it.
This was definitely Djokovic's year. The way he has played has proven he is one of the best players in the world. However, it would be impossible to think that Djokovic can keep up this level next year or any year after. There is a reason players dont keep this type og game. It stresses your body. You can see how Djokovic has been having problems with his body after the US Open. Theres just too many points to defend next year.
@Rafathaman94 I could also say Federer "deserved" to win the French this year but he didn't. Nadal went 5 sets against Isner. Should never happen on clay IMO. Djokovic had to beat Del Potro to get to the semis, and Federer played much better than Nadal all the way through the French and took out Djokovic who probably would've beaten Nadal anyway. In short, Nadal didn't win the French because he played better than Federer overall. He won it because Federer has a mental block against him.
@Rafathaman94 As I said Nadal's had plenty of creampuff draws. He went 5 sets against two relative nobodies at Wimbledon in 2010. Back to back no less and still won the tournament. By rights Berdych "deserved" to win that tournament taking out Federer and Djokovic relatively easily but he never did. I respect Nadal, but with that said he is the KING of playing pretty bad early in a GS only to end up winning it because he plays well in the qtrs, semis, and finals.
@Rafathaman94 No, tennis is crap now to you because Nadal has found a player he can't beat and thus he's not winning as much anymore. Stop trying to be objective. You're bias shows anytime someone says anything bad about Nadal. The competition argument is about as old as tennis itself. It's just the way things are. Nadal's had plenty of creampuff draws. US Open 2010 comes to mind. In fact his draw in 2011 wasn't that tough either. And overall competition in 2010 was pretty bad as hornygates said

I don't understand tennis' point system. At this time, Nadal was #1 and Djokovic was #2. But, when they both get to Wimbledon finals, Djokovic would have become #1 whether or not he lost this match.
@tacotwosdays It does make sense 'cause for Nadal that was another wimbledon final,he was the defending champion and for Djokovic this was his first ever final on wimbledon, therefore it was his biggest success on that tournament so he receives more points for that than Nadal for something he already did before.
@bonestrukture Okay I understand the concept now, but I don't get why they would do that. It seems like they should just keep the points for a tournament the same even if you are defending champion
@tacotwosdays Players gain points for every match they win in the tournament. after winning the wimbledon semi-finals, Djokovic gained enough points to beat Rafa's
@tacotwosdays Rafa already got all the points he could from Wimbledon cuz he won it last year. He just has to defend those points (basically if he doesn't win, he LOSES points, if he wins, stays the same). Djokovic didn't make it to the finals last year, only the semi-finals and lost. he got some points for making it to the finals this time, and beat Rafa's points
@SwiftyProZ I get it, I'm just stating my opinion that I don't like tennis' point system. I think that they made it too easy to be surpassed as number 1. For example, look at Federer. He was number 1 for the longest and had like 15 or so grand slams. Rafa comes in around 5 years later and after he gets like 4 grand slams and he becomes number 1 because Federer already "expired" his points by winning basically every tournament tennis has. That just seems unbalanced.
@tacotwosdays yea i agree. although, if everyone kept the points they gain, federer would stay #1 forever until someone surpasses his slam record and stuff or when he retires. i guess its to keep it competitive, not keep 1 person as #1 for 5-6 years
@tacotwosdays it counts points for one calander year, when a tourney is played you lose the points from the previous year, and gain the points you get in the current year. if you miss an event you played before, you lose those points after a year, if you play a tourney you didnt play, you just gain points...the system is perfectly fair, whoever has been the best for the prev 12 months will be number 1. there is no handicap for having less points to defend, it makes no difference.
@shawnharris43 I had like 5 people giving me pretty much different answers so that just tells me that no one understand the point system either ahaha.. but yours makes sense
@tacotwosdays this kind of point system makes sure the player need to dominate week in and week out. Tennis authorities know it is difficult to defend a title when a player aged 1 year.
@tacotwosdays I'm pretty sure it's like this. Your points from the present grand slam are subtracted by the amount you got last year. Considering Nadal won Wimbledon last year he would have gotten 0 points for winning it again because 2000-2000=0. But Djokovic was knocked out in the semis last year and since he got past the semis this year, he gained enough points to be able to surpass Rafa as number 1.
Anyway, where were we? Yes, Djokovic and the butt-kicking cog he is. Event after event. Match by match. Set by set. He simply never succumbed to the rigors of the job. He never once failed the Rafael Nadal test (6-0 in 2011). He refused to let a couple of meager match points against Roger Federer come between him and his third Slam of the season.
@tacotwosdays The point system calculates the CURRENT world #1, not the GOAT. It's a total of your points from the past 52 weeks, and whoever has the highest total is #1. A result in a given tournament replaces your points from a year ago, changing your total. I think this is perfectly sensible reasoning.
If they had a running total, Agassi would have been #1 ahead of Federer until he retired in 2006, even though he hadn't won a slam since 2003. Is that fair?
Unlike against Federer,Rafa cant go after Novak's backhand and wear it down, that is Novak's biggest weapon, even the forehand is solid enough to go toe to toe with Rafa's,another problem for Rafa is that Novak is just as fit, fast, relentless as him,his ability to put balls back into play is amazing, plus he hits his shots flatter, harder and deeper with more severe angles,Nadal's game was enough to beat probably anybody else yesterday but it wont be enough against this man what can he do?VERY LITTLE
Novak's domination of Nadal only reaffirms Fed's status as the greatest ever, when Fed has lost 6 matches in a row against any player?NEVER not even against Nadal,he poses a stylistic problem to Fed,while Fed's game matches better with Novak, that's why he cant put Fed away with the same resolve he does Nadal,Rafa's legacy is in serious jeopardy in the sense that as long Novak is around he will prevent him from winning more, what is sad is that no matters what he tries nothing works at the moment.
people need to realise Nadal played through wimbledon with an ongoing foot injury hes had the problem for YEARS but still manages to reach finals and win grand slams Nadal is the Greatest player to walk on a court
@MONEYMayweatherFloyd typical nadal fan excuse. come up with something new please i'm sick of hearing people say nadal has an injury whenever he loses.....Djokovic had a back injury at the US Open, which makes it even then if your excuse is correct. Djokovic still won though.
@MONEYMayweatherFloyd And whats the excuse for losing the us open? or the other clay and hardcourt tournaments he lost to Novak? or what about the fact that Novak played throughout the US Open and US Open series with a hurt shoulder and had a hurt back in the final set of the final yesterday? Oh let me guess, you dont believe any of that.. but you believe when diva Nadal says it... fuck off
Nadal tried everything and still couldnt beat Novak,he simply outplayed Nadal from the getgo,Nadal made a nice run in the third when Novak seemed a little gassed and out of sorts momentarily but inmediately recovered and pounded him in the fourth, what Rafa can do to turn this around I DONT KNOW,Novak is as speedy as him, defends just as good, both his backhand and forehand are solid and most importantly his mindset and confidence are off the charts,if he escaped 2 MP against Fed he can do anything
@ahile987 Lol, all you can is to be a douche. Now you achieved your goal, you are officially an idiot. If you play at least 1 % like Djokovic, you'll be a great player. In fact, you are just a lazy bastard!
@ahile987 The point is, in tennis, you should hit the ball hard and send it back, shouldn't you? And, not being a Djok fan boy, but you gotta admit it, kid: Djok is better than Rafa at this very moment. You can't call 6 consecutive wins a luck/coincidence.
... inherently means he will make more mistakes, and probably lose when he doesnt play amazing. But I think its better than the alternative, try and play his own game 100% of the time and lose 90% of the time, or take some chances, and lose 50% of the time. So much of tennis is about match ups, not skill on a tennis court, and finding the right balance will always be the difference between winning and losing, its just having the confidence to play a different kind of game break point down and...
@KaminariKatta ha, ye your right, I was just trying to offer my rational for why I thought nadal needed to do things differently. Your last line was what I was saying without my dull commentary
to beat djoko, I think nadal needs to take more risks. Nadal for so many years has beaten federer not because he is the better player, but because his game matches up perfectly to his own. Now nadal is coming up against a player, not that is much better than him, but game the really negates his strengths. The first point is a classic example, taking the ball early and down the line is one of nadals greatest strengths (imo, nadal has maybe the best DTL forehand ever). Playing more aggressively...
@Peaches1822 Nadal's game isn't rounded. Djokovic is a much more complete player. Strong forehand, strong backhand, decent net skills, quick foot speed, and a great serve. Nadal is missing the backhand, the net skills, and the serve. He still has a lot of work to do. Also, down the line isn't the way to beat Djokovic. It may be a good finishing shot, but Nadal doesn't hit cross court enough to create space. Even inside-out is a poor shot selection, since it pulls Nadal off the court.
@Maniac742 the dtl forehand was just one instance of what nadal should try to on a more regular basis. There are many shots in nadal rallies where players who hit through the ball can hit for winners, where nadal piles on the pressure instead, winning points against lesser players, but people like djoko can really counter. So Im pointing out areas of improvements for winning on a more consistent basis.
In relation to Nadal missing a backhand..........how long have you been watching tennis to say
@Peaches1822 What are you on about? Nadal almost does nothing but down the line a lot times, and that shot gets him into trouble against Djokovic. When it comes to a rally of Nadal hitting DTL and Djokovic hitting cross court, Nadal has to run further since the cross court ball moves away from player and down the line moves perpendicular. Nadal doesn't create angles enough. And Nadal's backhand is mediocre, you can't argue that it isn't.
@Maniac742 well thats not true, and a prime example are the first two points of this match, though the very first point is not shown. You can describe to me the physics of what happens when at dtl is hit and the player then hits cross court, but the point of that shot is to be aggressive and take the initiative. What gets nadal into trouble is the xc rallies to djokos backhand. Nadal doesnt create enough angles, give me a break son. I can begin to go against you on utube cos its gonna take ages
@Maniac742 and I can very easily argue nadals backhand is not mediocre, but I doubt it will get us anywhere. Get a clue about tennis, seriously Its just unbelievable the people that watch a few tournaments a year and then believe they can speak on how 'ineffective' rafas game is against djoko and produce statements like 'nadal doesnt hit cross court enough to create space'......really
@Maniac742 nadal is 'missing' a backhand? as a shot on its own, it hits more winners from 'nowhere' than his forehand. Yes, it may not be as good as djokovics, murrays or a nalbandian (best backhand ever IMO), but he can get serious pace on that shot an put players under pressure as well as relieve it with that shot.
'Nadal doesn't hit cross court enough to create space'??? I would imagine every pro, including djokovic can testify that nadal creates plenty of space with his cross court FH
@Maniac742 its the fact that djokos backhand can deal with it is what makes him so difficult for nadal. With federer, when nadal runs round to hit a FH fed has to cover DTL cos his backhand is weaker, leaving a more open court for the off-FH, djoko doesnt have to do that, which is why I simply said hitting the DTL FH closer to the line would be a better change in strategy than simply doing what he has done the past 5 times
Like any good rival, Djokovic has zeroed in on the Nadal weaknesses. Nadal's actually weaker in his forehand corner than he is on his backhand. It's something common to all players who run around the backhand often. He's content camping in the backhand corner. Play Nadal to his forehand side or let him camp his backhand corner and finish down the line on the forehand one. Djokovic also has an outstanding backhand return, which is where Nadal tends to serve to.
@Maniac742 Absolutely. Djoko found a way to play him and has used the recipe every time just like Nadal uses his high topspin forehand to Federer's one handed backhand.
I think davydenko executes the anti-nadal strategy the best.
Nadal is slower to his forehand side.He also has trouble getting flat balls on that wing due to his big swing, even if he does get it,It would usually land short.
Furthermore, against davydenko who takes the ball early and robs time away from nadal, this really rushes nadal to finish his forehand swing.
@KaminariKatta Did you see a tournament in Dubai or somewhere in 2009 or 2010 where Davy got a bagel in the 1st set then came back and won the next two again Nadal? That was impressive. He takes the ball on the rise. He is mechanical and reminds me of a video arcade game.
What does Rafa need to change tactically to beat Novak? (and please don't say win more points than him!). Seriously folks I would like to know. Rafa has 1 playing style and it beats nearly everyone until now. Novak can handle the Rafa forehand.
Djokovic plays comfortably against nadal, cuz most of his shots all land in his comfort zone. Also, some of Nadal's tactics to go offensive don't work on DJokovic. Nadal likes to attacks the backhand, like how he does to beat federer. But in this case, Djokovic's backhand is REALLY good, better than his forehand, according to commentators. He can return shots to his backhand with ease. So Nadal doesn't really have an area to attack that he's comfortable
@SwiftyProZ watch FYB2007 Chanel, they are really great @FYB2007 they have the tactics they use against each other and they predicted how Federer needed to play vs djokovic at FO2011 to beat him and at the match federer did the exact same thing as they said
@SwiftyProZ the backhand of novak its huge!!! so much better than his forehand... u can see that the best points of him is by using backhand... and novak is very consistant, he defends attacking, specialy with his backhand
@surfjabroni exactly, Nadal has ONE playing style but now players have started to find the way to beat that style. Federer was absolutely dominant for 5 years until others found a way to challenge him. The fact that Djoko has beaten Nadal convincingly 5 consecutive times means Nadal has to evolve in his game or perish.
@surfjabroni First off, Nadal has a mediocre backhand. His backhand on the run is especially weak. When Federer does beat Nadal, that's the shot he makes Nadal hit. Djokovic does the same. First and foremost, Nadal needs to run around the backhand less. Djokovic has no weaker side, so peppering one side or the other won't work. Move Djokovic off the court with wider angles instead of counting on spin to lower the pace of his shots. Lastly, bring Djokovic to the net. He's easy to pass.
@Maniac742 I think we don't see that much of Nadal's backhand because he is so quick, camps out on the BH side and also runs around it. I remember in Madrid 2009 final v Nadal, Fed would serve, fake coming to the net (and illicit a short dipping return) which he would then put away. Also when volleying, playing behind Nadal, (rather than going for the open court) was another way of winning.
@surfjabroni The fact that we don't see it only enforces that it's his weaker shot. If nothing else, lack of use will cause a shot to dull, but the simple fact that Nadal feels the need to run around it shows that he's less confident in his backhand. That just begs someone to make him hit it. Do you see Djokovic run around the backhand? Djokovic is one of the few players who understands that you finish to the Nadal backhand. You don't open to it. That prevents Nadal from running around.
@Maniac742 the other thing his federer hits a different kind of ball than djokovic. Djoko has more of an arch, which exposes nadals backhand. When fed hits to nadals BH, nadal can use the pace of the ball a lot easier. Like nadal is a nightmare match up for fed, djoko is becoming that for nadal
@surfjabroni More hard/flat forehands + return. Rafa needs to come in when he gets a short reply and smack the ball with a Delpo/Soderling-ish forehand. Spin is great in terms of forcing an unforced error or trying to keep your shot in, but sucks for trying to hit a winner against someone who's extremely fast like Novak. Also Rafa needs to get more returns in play. U can't have the best returner in the game who'll break u almost every other service game hold serve so easily.
@surfjabroni One difference I see is Novak reads Rafa very well. Rafa most of the time goes to open court basically trying to move the opponent from one side to another. Rafa should try to put more balls behind Djokovic that is put the ball in opposite direction where Djokovic is running. Djoko does this to Nadal, If Nadal can do this he has a good chance. Apart from that Nadal cant afford to go around his backhand to hit with is forehand all the time, more confidence needed on backhand
I dont care what all of you say, but Djokovic is on a performance enhancer of some sort. People always think enhancers are "suppose to make you muscle bound", but not necessarily!!!! They should test his butt and see what the results are. And if you hear of him in the future being "found positive", remember this blog.
Why do you have to argue who is the best!? Federer, Nadal and Djokovic deserve only admiration for their talent and hard work to achieve all of this. Come on, people, are we here no1 at anything, in this world! Personally,I don't like Federer, but I can't deny that he is the best player so far. Nadal had great year till Wimbldon, he played all the finals, won tournaments when Djokovic didnt play, but Djokovic is the best this year, and hope he will continue like this. We will see... :)
@brawlaccount free country srry. I could post a crappy tennis video and post it as the Wimbledon Finals too. Want me to do that rather than use the minimal amount of time i have to make the highlights? Go record the highlights so you don't have to see the buffering stuff then.
Nadal was so tired. He was injured and sickness and MONO and SLUMP of head, arm, ankle, stomach, brain, eyes, elbow, celulitis, fingers, liver, bowels, boob implants, nose surgery, wrist, nails, etc. Classy. love Rafa:)
@Rafathaman94 well, hes on steroids, for one. Second, im not a professional tennis player. Third, Djokovic is having a much better years, can win when the going gets tough, and nafal's one one friggin tournament this year. And federer is the best of all time. In the legacy that is tennis, nadal's game and style of play just DONT belong. Djokovic and federer are the best. Deal with it
@Rafathaman94 dont make me laugh. "Djokovic was in bad form". I dont f*cking call 48-1 throughout the whole year at the highest level possible bad form!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ARE YOU BLIND!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!? YOue ignorance amazes me
@ivansofun No offense but the argument is for who is better right now. First of all, federer isn't at his prime anymore, and second of all, djokovic is shit compared to federer all time, so all of you hating on federer shut the fuck up because he still is the best of all time.
@ivansofun First of all, it seemed like you were insulting federer, so i took offense and am sorry, and second of all, i am in ib so you really have no right to say anything about my reading comprehension jackass.
HAHAHA ALMOST EVERY TOURNAMENT NADAL WINS HE PLAYS LIKE SHIT BUT HIS OPPONENTS CHOKE AND HAS AN EASY DRAW, AND HE ONLY WINS FINALS BECAUSE HE MATCHES UP WELL WITH FEDERER WHO IS MUCH BETTER PLAYER, NADAL IS UGLY DEFENSIVE PUSHER WHO CANT PLAY FOR SHIT BUT JUST OUTHUSTLES HIS OPPONENTS AND MAKE THEM INTO UNFORCED ERRORS
@TheBXpress Now they will say... that djokovic will never reach 11 slams and beat rafa and prove that he is greater than rafa... guess what by the time year 2015 comes... federer : 19 slams; nadal : 10 slams; djoko : 12 slams; del potro : 5 slams; Murray OH WELL.... hmmm hhmmm hhmmmm : zero slams...
This is interesting as Nadal is getting a taste of his own medicine finally. Nadal now knows how Roger Federer must have felt when he came along and started beating him. Now Djokovic is giving Nadal the same treatment.
@SwiftyProZ Thank you.

ATP point system is based on 2 years result.
End of the each year there is always new Ranking each year.
Doesn't matter how many Federer won Grand slams before.
Tennis and Golf are the same point system.
Every year we have know who is the Best player now.
This point system is very good.

@SwiftyProZ Yeah but Rafa won his semi-finals too. I get the point system now a bit more, but I just think it's stupid.
tacotwosdays 5 months ago
@tacotwosdays Rafa already got all the points he could from Wimbledon cuz he won it last year. He just has to defend those points (basically if he doesn't win, he LOSES points, if he wins, stays the same). Djokovic didn't make it to the finals last year, only the semi-finals and lost. he got some points for making it to the finals this time, and beat Rafa's points
SwiftyProZ 5 months ago 3
@SwiftyProZ I get it, I'm just stating my opinion that I don't like tennis' point system. I think that they made it too easy to be surpassed as number 1. For example, look at Federer. He was number 1 for the longest and had like 15 or so grand slams. Rafa comes in around 5 years later and after he gets like 4 grand slams and he becomes number 1 because Federer already "expired" his points by winning basically every tournament tennis has. That just seems unbalanced.
tacotwosdays 5 months ago
@tacotwosdays yea i agree. although, if everyone kept the points they gain, federer would stay #1 forever until someone surpasses his slam record and stuff or when he retires. i guess its to keep it competitive, not keep 1 person as #1 for 5-6 years
SwiftyProZ 5 months ago 13
@SwiftyProZ Yeah that is true too, but it doesn't look like they are going to change anything anytime soon haha. Thanks for clearing that up though

@tacotwosdays it counts points for one calander year, when a tourney is played you lose the points from the previous year, and gain the points you get in the current year. if you miss an event you played before, you lose those points after a year, if you play a tourney you didnt play, you just gain points...the system is perfectly fair, whoever has been the best for the prev 12 months will be number 1. there is no handicap for having less points to defend, it makes no difference.
shawnharris43 2 months ago
@shawnharris43 I had like 5 people giving me pretty much different answers so that just tells me that no one understand the point system either ahaha.. but yours makes sense
tacotwosdays 2 months ago
@tacotwosdays this kind of point system makes sure the player need to dominate week in and week out. Tennis authorities know it is difficult to defend a title when a player aged 1 year.
youziness 4 months ago
@tacotwosdays I'm pretty sure it's like this. Your points from the present grand slam are subtracted by the amount you got last year. Considering Nadal won Wimbledon last year he would have gotten 0 points for winning it again because 2000-2000=0. But Djokovic was knocked out in the semis last year and since he got past the semis this year, he gained enough points to be able to surpass Rafa as number 1.
Sundin456 2 months ago
@tacotwosdays
ESPDsucks 5 months ago
@tacotwosdays The point system calculates the CURRENT world #1, not the GOAT. It's a total of your points from the past 52 weeks, and whoever has the highest total is #1. A result in a given tournament replaces your points from a year ago, changing your total. I think this is perfectly sensible reasoning.
If they had a running total, Agassi would have been #1 ahead of Federer until he retired in 2006, even though he hadn't won a slam since 2003. Is that fair?
Fernball21 3 months ago
@Fernball21 I get it now, it's just the whole idea of Djokovic becoming number 1 whether he won or lost is stupid

Unlike against Federer,Rafa cant go after Novak's backhand and wear it down, that is Novak's biggest weapon, even the forehand is solid enough to go toe to toe with Rafa's,another problem for Rafa is that Novak is just as fit, fast, relentless as him,his ability to put balls back into play is amazing, plus he hits his shots flatter, harder and deeper with more severe angles,Nadal's game was enough to beat probably anybody else yesterday but it wont be enough against this man what can he do?VERY LITTLE
julius5551 5 months ago
Novak's domination of Nadal only reaffirms Fed's status as the greatest ever, when Fed has lost 6 matches in a row against any player?NEVER not even against Nadal,he poses a stylistic problem to Fed,while Fed's game matches better with Novak, that's why he cant put Fed away with the same resolve he does Nadal,Rafa's legacy is in serious jeopardy in the sense that as long Novak is around he will prevent him from winning more, what is sad is that no matters what he tries nothing works at the moment.

Peaches1822 6 months ago
@Peaches1822 Holy cow,This is starting to sound like how federer should beat nadal strategy talk.
The main point is execution.
Federer has to execute the DTL backhand to perfection.
Nadal has to execute the DTL forehand to perfection.
KaminariKatta 6 months ago
@KaminariKatta ha, ye your right, I was just trying to offer my rational for why I thought nadal needed to do things differently. Your last line was what I was saying without my dull commentary
Peaches1822 6 months ago
to beat djoko, I think nadal needs to take more risks.
Peaches1822 6 months ago
@Peaches1822 Nadal's game isn't rounded. Djokovic is a much more complete player. Strong forehand, strong backhand, decent net skills, quick foot speed, and a great serve. Nadal is missing the backhand, the net skills, and the serve. He still has a lot of work to do. Also, down the line isn't the way to beat Djokovic. It may be a good finishing shot, but Nadal doesn't hit cross court enough to create space. Even inside-out is a poor shot selection, since it pulls Nadal off the court.
Maniac742 6 months ago
@Maniac742 the dtl forehand was just one instance of what nadal should try to on a more regular basis. There are many shots in nadal rallies where players who hit through the ball can hit for winners, where nadal piles on the pressure instead, winning points against lesser players, but people like djoko can really counter. So Im pointing out areas of improvements for winning on a more consistent basis.
In relation to Nadal missing a backhand..........how long have you been watching tennis to say
Peaches1822 6 months ago
@Peaches1822 What are you on about? Nadal almost does nothing but down the line a lot times, and that shot gets him into trouble against Djokovic. When it comes to a rally of Nadal hitting DTL and Djokovic hitting cross court, Nadal has to run further since the cross court ball moves away from player and down the line moves perpendicular. Nadal doesn't create angles enough. And Nadal's backhand is mediocre, you can't argue that it isn't.
Maniac742 6 months ago
@Maniac742 well thats not true, and a prime example are the first two points of this match, though the very first point is not shown. You can describe to me the physics of what happens when at dtl is hit and the player then hits cross court, but the point of that shot is to be aggressive and take the initiative. What gets nadal into trouble is the xc rallies to djokos backhand. Nadal doesnt create enough angles, give me a break son. I can begin to go against you on utube cos its gonna take ages
Peaches1822 6 months ago
@Maniac742 and I can very easily argue nadals backhand is not mediocre, but I doubt it will get us anywhere. Get a clue about tennis, seriously Its just unbelievable the people that watch a few tournaments a year and then believe they can speak on how 'ineffective' rafas game is against djoko and produce statements like 'nadal doesnt hit cross court enough to create space'......really
Peaches1822 6 months ago
@Maniac742 nadal is 'missing' a backhand? as a shot on its own, it hits more winners from 'nowhere' than his forehand. Yes, it may not be as good as djokovics, murrays or a nalbandian (best backhand ever IMO), but he can get serious pace on that shot an put players under pressure as well as relieve it with that shot.
'Nadal doesn't hit cross court enough to create space'??? I would imagine every pro, including djokovic can testify that nadal creates plenty of space with his cross court FH
Peaches1822 6 months ago
@Maniac742 its the fact that djokos backhand can deal with it is what makes him so difficult for nadal. With federer, when nadal runs round to hit a FH fed has to cover DTL cos his backhand is weaker, leaving a more open court for the off-FH, djoko doesnt have to do that, which is why I simply said hitting the DTL FH closer to the line would be a better change in strategy than simply doing what he has done the past 5 times
Peaches1822 6 months ago
I want that this vid has more then 200 000 vieuws.
SublimeCookie 6 months ago
Like any good rival, Djokovic has zeroed in on the Nadal weaknesses. Nadal's actually weaker in his forehand corner than he is on his backhand. It's something common to all players who run around the backhand often. He's content camping in the backhand corner. Play Nadal to his forehand side or let him camp his backhand corner and finish down the line on the forehand one. Djokovic also has an outstanding backhand return, which is where Nadal tends to serve to.
Maniac742 6 months ago
@Maniac742 Absolutely. Djoko found a way to play him and has used the recipe every time just like Nadal uses his high topspin forehand to Federer's one handed backhand.
Bostero3771 6 months ago
@Maniac742 Your right.
A typical davydenko -nadal rally would be
Davydenko CC forehand,nadal CC Bh
Davydenko DTL FH,approach,Putaway.
KaminariKatta 6 months ago
@KaminariKatta Did you see a tournament in Dubai or somewhere in 2009 or 2010 where Davy got a bagel in the 1st set then came back and won the next two again Nadal? That was impressive. He takes the ball on the rise. He is mechanical and reminds me of a video arcade game.

kobasica 6 months ago
What does Rafa need to change tactically to beat Novak? (and please don't say win more points than him!). Seriously folks I would like to know. Rafa has 1 playing style and it beats nearly everyone until now. Novak can handle the Rafa forehand.
surfjabroni 6 months ago
@surfjabroni 1st,This is MY opinion GUYS!
SwiftyProZ 6 months ago
@SwiftyProZ Perhaps you should watch murray vs nadal us open 2008.That match really showed what nadal's weakness was.
Time and time again murray just blasted a ball DTL on his forehand and rafa would leave a ball short.
Against del potro and soderling at FO 2009 too.
KaminariKatta 6 months ago
@SwiftyProZ watch FYB2007 Chanel, they are really great @FYB2007 they have the tactics they use against each other and they predicted how Federer needed to play vs djokovic at FO2011 to beat him and at the match federer did the exact same thing as they said
frinxblvs 6 months ago
@SwiftyProZ the backhand of novak its huge!!! so much better than his forehand... u can see that the best points of him is by using backhand... and novak is very consistant, he defends attacking, specialy with his backhand
druggged 5 months ago
@surfjabroni exactly, Nadal has ONE playing style but now players have started to find the way to beat that style. Federer was absolutely dominant for 5 years until others found a way to challenge him. The fact that Djoko has beaten Nadal convincingly 5 consecutive times means Nadal has to evolve in his game or perish.
Bostero3771 6 months ago
@surfjabroni First off, Nadal has a mediocre backhand. His backhand on the run is especially weak. When Federer does beat Nadal, that's the shot he makes Nadal hit. Djokovic does the same. First and foremost, Nadal needs to run around the backhand less. Djokovic has no weaker side, so peppering one side or the other won't work. Move Djokovic off the court with wider angles instead of counting on spin to lower the pace of his shots. Lastly, bring Djokovic to the net. He's easy to pass.
Maniac742 6 months ago
@Maniac742 I think we don't see that much of Nadal's backhand because he is so quick, camps out on the BH side and also runs around it. I remember in Madrid 2009 final v Nadal, Fed would serve, fake coming to the net (and illicit a short dipping return) which he would then put away. Also when volleying, playing behind Nadal, (rather than going for the open court) was another way of winning.
surfjabroni 6 months ago
@surfjabroni The fact that we don't see it only enforces that it's his weaker shot. If nothing else, lack of use will cause a shot to dull, but the simple fact that Nadal feels the need to run around it shows that he's less confident in his backhand. That just begs someone to make him hit it. Do you see Djokovic run around the backhand? Djokovic is one of the few players who understands that you finish to the Nadal backhand. You don't open to it. That prevents Nadal from running around.
Maniac742 6 months ago
@Maniac742 the other thing his federer hits a different kind of ball than djokovic. Djoko has more of an arch, which exposes nadals backhand. When fed hits to nadals BH, nadal can use the pace of the ball a lot easier. Like nadal is a nightmare match up for fed, djoko is becoming that for nadal
Peaches1822 6 months ago
@Maniac742 dunno what my point is really :)
Peaches1822 6 months ago
@surfjabroni More hard/flat forehands + return. Rafa needs to come in when he gets a short reply and smack the ball with a Delpo/Soderling-ish forehand. Spin is great in terms of forcing an unforced error or trying to keep your shot in, but sucks for trying to hit a winner against someone who's extremely fast like Novak. Also Rafa needs to get more returns in play. U can't have the best returner in the game who'll break u almost every other service game hold serve so easily.
dude92128 6 months ago
@surfjabroni One difference I see is Novak reads Rafa very well. Rafa most of the time goes to open court basically trying to move the opponent from one side to another. Rafa should try to put more balls behind Djokovic that is put the ball in opposite direction where Djokovic is running. Djoko does this to Nadal, If Nadal can do this he has a good chance. Apart from that Nadal cant afford to go around his backhand to hit with is forehand all the time, more confidence needed on backhand
kishoreg1980 5 months ago
I dont care what all of you say, but Djokovic is on a performance enhancer of some sort. People always think enhancers are "suppose to make you muscle bound", but not necessarily!!!!
