There is no better brand of cymbals. It all comes down to what sound you're looking for. The hating on this company or that company really needs to stop. They all make high quality products, and every drummer wants a original and unique sound, so just get what you like the sound of.
@UltraPercussion Just because something is more expensive doesn't persay make it better, i like the sound of both, but to say that a cymbal is 'noobish' :S because it is about £40 less expensive but has still sold millions of units, you're an idiot :S
@AFatGypsyFanny Yeah one of the zildjian brothers, Andy i guess, decided to make his own company (Sabian) since the company was inherited to his brother, not him. I think the story is something along those lines.
@sweetness295 zildjian and sabian are the same cymbals. look it up they were brothers that got in a dispute and sabian named the cymbals after his kids first letter of thier names but the ian had to be the same a zildjian. Check it out. its true a old time drummer told me that and he was right. people who use one but diss the other are just ignorant.
I don't get why people who have zildjian cymbals hate sabians, and why people with sabians hate zildjians, i think they are both great so i have a combination and i can talk on both sides :o
@sweetness295 Agreed, I have half and half right now. A Custom Hats & 16" Crash and a 20" Z Custom Ride. Then I have an AAX 18" China, 12" China and 18" Crash.
Both brands sound great. The only reason I'd favor one over the other is just based on price. Neither one necessarily sounds better than the other, different maybe, but not better.
@drummer4life2014 I actually miss typed that, I have the 14" mini. It has a quick decay and is high pitched. I use it for most breakdowns and my bigger china (18" HHX) for riding on for other parts.
Right now, my setup is: 13" Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Hats, 18" Zildjian A Custom Crash, 10" Saluda Mist Splash, 15" Sabian HHX-Treme Crash, 18" Sabian HHX China, 20" Meinl Byzance Traditional Heavy Ride, 16" Zildjian A Custom Crash & 14" Sabian AAX Mini Chinese.
As you can see, I got rid of the 18" AAX, it was way too harsh for my ears. I now use the HHX, which is a bit lower pitched and tame, but I still use a moongel on it for ring.
@sweetness295 I'm a Sabian guy, and I don't hate Zildjian, but I'm not a fan. They don't have many cymbals i like the tone of. But they do have some good sounding models. i like darker cymbals, and i think that the HH and HHX sound better than the K and K Custom, but that's just my opinion. Oh. And lets not forget my 19" Fierce Crash <3
@MGabriel7767 HEY i feel the same way, i don't hate Zildjian, They just have too much consistency with their cymbals, and not enough versatility. If I get an 18" HHX Ozone, and you go buy one, we going to sound the same, you'll know it the same mode, but not the exact same sound, and I've noticed that that's not the case with Zildjian, my opinion.
@sweetness295 yes you can, but truth be known, and you may already know, but the creators of both brands are Zildjian brothers or family. In my opinion, Sabian were created because of a dispute of the mixes and spreading out so many different cheaper models, for profit objectives. Sabian wanted to MAKE cymbals that all levels of drummers can be catered to, so think about it like this, when you start to play , you are a beginner(B8-B8Pro) only one time. if you get better, you are an intermediate
@studkick drummer(B8Pro-XS20) only once. Keep playing you become advanced(AA, AAX,-HH,HHX), and if and when you elevate and become pro you can use all of the series to be honest. I've only had one Zildjian cymbal in my life, and the will be the only one, and that was an A Custom, which is made like the AAX, so to be able to put them up side by side to do a comparison, but from the sound of this video SABIAN BLOWS THE OTHER BRAND OUT THE WATER.
@sweetness295 I just don't buy zildjians, because Sabians are manufactured in Canada. Being that I live in Canada, aside from the pride aspect, the Sabians are much, much cheaper. Retail price for the 18" AAX-plosion crash I have is almost $500, but usually goes for around $250, I got mine for exactly $185
@sweetness295 I do agree that both companies make good cymbals, but I think sabian quality control has remained good, unlike zildjians. I can probably find a couple good sabians for every good zildjian when I go to a music store. Also sabian is very innovative with their designs so I like that.
In my opinion i liked the sound of the Zildjian cymbals better and i always have. its just the kind of sound you like it doesn't haft to do with one company being better than the other its just your preference.
@payableondrummer thanks for the info, very appreciate...could you tell me please if the aax studio are brighter or darker, thinner or thicker than the aax-plosion (not fast) ones? many thanks
@tbwannab they werent- the vault series is the name given to sabian's line of signature cymbals, like the jojo mayor fierce line or the mike portnoy max stax (though the paragon series is neil pert's whole sig. line), while fx is zildjan's group of odd cymbals like the sprial, the trash splash, and the 20" crash of doom
@Katsumerisfun Paragon would be more like the A's or A Customs, too, since it's got AAX lathing on top, AA lathing on bottom, and a hand hammered bell.
@payableondrummer hey man seems like you know your cymbals, but that is a very good comparison. Like cars and soft drinks, something compares to the other, thanks to to copyright laws to force us to be different, we would not have these amazing choices to pick from.
I'd love to hear a K series Zildjian fast crash in the comparison, All the rest of mine are A customs, but I've heard some great sounding Zildjian Ks and AAX-xplosions recently.
