Deal as I heard it was that PICKWICK CITY, a very low level record production company put out 45s that could be bought for a buck at the super market or dairy Queen or what ever they had 45 years ago. They were specifically looking for catchy new dances they could jump on. Though I'm sure Lou thought it was hysterical,I'' bet he was eager to get paid whatever small sum they gave him for it. I'd love to know if there is an existing cover of this.
Great Song, a "garage smasher" as I have read. Nothing to do with a parody. It was made by a bunch of kids who wanted to be able to buy their daily fix. It was Chicken Dance and entertainment on purpose.
this song may be a parody of simple dance songs, but it transcends that and illuminates a weird alternate reality where this is a dance craze and the world is amazing. I mean listen to all that noise, how can you not be transported to the dance floor where that killed
@ThePaltiel look up the word "parody" - yes, this song has a similar riff, but that doesn't make it a parody - if you wanted to be mean, you could call it "an obvious RIP OFF" but so many songs from this time period were clearly derivative - one could argue that it was the style of the times - in any case, weird al specializes in parodies - "eat it" is an obvious parody of "beat it", etc. - the lesson learned is that just because one song sounds like another doesn't make it a parody
thank you. i haven't heard this since 1964 or 65. it still makes me feel privately strange because those were strange times. i'd like to say more i'll stop with thank you.
Thanks for posting this piece of musical history. I've long wondered what this song sounded like. Now I know. It's actually better than I had expected, though clearly a throwaway by Mr. Reed.

@gmtx12 no, but I soon will. The existence of this song is wild, but the fact that New Order covered it is even wilder...

Hang on. Isn't this 1964. I mean, wasn't music exploding then. This is way out for that year. Wasn't Iggy an Iguana in '64?

This was a joke song... lyrics: "put your head on the floor and have somebody step on it"... Parody of corny dance songs, "The Twist" etc.
