"... i was just wondering because my friend lives in rural new mexico...."
Folks who live around here at 7,000+ feet are currently buried in 6 inches of snow: it has all the ranchers stuck for a day or two, unless they want to chance driving on the stuff. I've very glad I need not go anywhere!
yeah, the friend i was talking about lived in an area where people are pretty self reliant. i think the nearest town for him was about thirty miles away.
This kind of makes me want to join in, only as a counter operative. I want to sit there with cameras and document the activities of the people documenting the protesters. Not to use it for any particular purpose, just make them aware of me following them, photographing them and recording their license plates and such.
I don't know how much scientology there is to protest in Illinois, though. Around here we call organized crime the state government.
"just make them aware of me following them, photographing them and recording their license plates and such."
Anonymous politely suggests that this is a very bad idea. Anonymous has no use for the personal information of Scientologists because Anonymous does not follow them home to harass them. Anonymous is protesting the fraud and human rights abuses of an organized crime syndicate. To pretend that this is a cute cloak-and-dagger game will lead to epic fail.
"Anonymous politely suggests that this is a very bad idea."
Then "anonymous" misunderstood my suggestion. I was referring to the private investigators that the scientologists are supposed to hire to document the protestors. "watch the watchers" is a fairly basic form of social protest, it requires no pretense to being cloak and dagger at all.
The Church of Scientology is pretty dam expensive and dangerous for a glorified book club. Shit you could get a life and a decent eduacation with the money it costs to be a Scientologist instead of wasting time reading the ramblings of a Sci-Fi retarded writer with rotten teeth and bad breath

seriously though, with this kind of experiance, perhaps you and some others should get together and write a protesters fieldguide with tips on how to foil their tactics.
Why don't you post videos protesting something worthwhile, like the Iraq war, which has killed up to a million civilians and thousands upon thousands of our troops, and injured tens of thousands more.
the iraq-thing already is a mess, more troops would be needed to stabilize the country, less troops would increase the amount of chaos there. its a bit too late to protest against that war, protesting against the stupidity that caused it makes more sense.
Hopefully, Americans will voice their protest of the war with their votes.
Right now, however, the iron is hot for doing some damage to the equally abhorrent CoS, so it makes sense for people to concentrate their efforts in that direction at this time.
The war is a huge project. It will take more than a bunch of internet junkies to end that.
The whole US administration needs to be replaced before we can even begin with the war.
Currently, there are enough people to create some major discomfort for CoS, and we need to work together for it to have any impact.
In order to take on the war, the criminals running the US have to be removed. The way it's set up, we won't be able to do anything about them until we can vote them out. They hold all the cards, and no one with enough power seems to want to do anything.
Concentrated effort is the only way to make this stuff work. Right now, CoS is feasible. The war is not.
Not every candidate is an megalomaniacal idiot cowboy like the shrub currently holding office, with his weedy sycophants leeching all the nutrients out of our precious land.
I think some know it's time to get us out of there.
This is not to say the war will ALWAYS not be feasible.
It's just that there are still too many retarded Americans that still believe we're doing some sort of good works by being in Iraq. So many that we can't get the momentum to make a dent in the issue.
No one said it had anything to do with that crock of shit, anyway.
If you don't care about it, fine. But you can't change what others feel strongly about.
Make a difference on your own. Win people to your cause. Figure out how to make something as unlikely and huge as a group of internet hackers and crackers want to take on the battle, and create a wave of common outrage that is powerful enough to impact the issue.
Besides, it isn't as though one can't want to end both CoS AND the war.
"Try and keep up with world affairs by not watching FOX."

That is a dandy idea: the criminal cult does not know how to "handle" street theater, and a mask of Ms. McPherson would baffle most Guardians Office thug.
"It would definitely bring the point home to roost."
I have attended Lisa McPherson memorials at Clearwater: Scientology staff and customers have no emotions at all when it comes to Lisa McPherson's brutal torture and death. It's as if they never heard of her.
Scientology Inc.'s depraved indifference to human life killed her. She was ordered to inspect an underground transformer vault every morning. The metal ladder she used to get into the vault tipped over and she grabbed two live power posts. Her arms were vaporized.
Wise words, DP. Organized crime is not to be taken lightly. Protesting is much needed, but personal safety is paramount. They can, and will, kill you.
"what if I leave my vechile at another location and take the bus there??"
They will get on the bus with you. Calling the cops 911 and saying you are being stalked and you fear for your life will work wonders in getting them to stop following you.

"Did those Scientology thugs try to do anything other than photograph you & follow you around? How did you get away from their private investigator?"
DP and I played with a few Scientology thugs but so long as there are witnesses around and cameras rolling, they won't actually assault or try to kill people.

Holy Crap, there are 3 in Sydney. Luckily none in Newcastle, but then again I think we have more than our fair share of Mormons and JW's.

"there are 3 in Sydney."
Most of them don't actually exist. You'll find that they are post office boxes or that they are people's houses.
The crime syndicate does this to try to pretend that they're really larger than around 40,000 customers world wide.
