is this tai chi or a wudang internal martial art? i know push hands is used in tai chi but isn't wudang pai its own martial art? someone clarify please,
These guys are masters. Very nice demonstration of tai chi. Tai chi - the most powerful martial art in the whole world! Practice tai chi only with love and good thoughts and only for health and you will be masters.
@b747power Ehh... I think it might take a little more detrmination. Let's not forget the thousands of hours spend in practice, the legs that if you were to listen to them scream in tiny voices "kill me! kill me!" and the many hours of focus for both breathing and posture *in conjunction with* an enormous amount of practice in getting the form right.. No, I don't think "Just think happy thoughts" really covers it...
Not only beautiful to watch the interaction and fluid movements done by two very competent Tai Chi practioners. That has not just come over night but some serious dedication...My compliments to both practioners and thankyou!
Awesome demo.
All those with negative comments....try it and see how you get on.
wudang is amazing in any internal style you can work the 3 basins: heaven, man, earth. (high stance, mid, and very long an low) save the last one for strong legs. try walking the circle very low to the ground..ow! thanks
Wow this was great i've seen some Videos about the core elements of Tui Shou and this was a great demonstration of the movements interacting. It would be interesting to see how fast someone of you guys will lie on the ground if this case would be intended :)
I kept forgetting my wudang tai chi form it pissses me of I always have to watch vidoes to remember now I'm learning so weird shoalin style form called nan jin or something :P I miss Wudang!!!!
Looks just like Iai Kido and Ju Jutsu. Only difference is the concentration in the chi flow from the initial attack. Ai Kido and Ju Jutsu concentrate on directing the attack into your own counter, after the attack. However, this might seem weird, until I say that my styles came from Okinawa.
The rocking on the heel. Does that mess with your root? People have said not to use this method. I notice a lot of Wu Stylists practice it. I find that I can play with my center and root a bit easier. However, in Chen style, we remain rooted in pus hands. Can you explain the reason for this?
Aside from that question regarding this video, I Think both of you have tremendous skill.
I'm a Chinese and I marvel at your demonstration of push hands. Both of you selflessly demonstrated the prower of push hands, and you took turn to take the role-play of attacker and defender. You both must have practised for more than 10 years to have achieved such level of kung-fu. Congratulations!
(P.S.I feel sorry that others have misinterpreted your demonstration as "dancing". They don't know what they have witnessed is a very superior form of kung-fu.)
Fantastic demo! I would love some information on the uniforms that were worn, what are they called and where may I buy them. I live in Detroit, Mich, Thanks !
@wintercocooo yes/no. The key isn't really a key. My english isn't the best but i try my best. If your opponent pushes you go back and if he does you push. First you have to know your body and how to move and you need agility. A fight in this distance is normally to fast for your eye. This means you have to react on touch. So you must feel him and his movement and when you know how a body moves you know where his center is. And now you can make him loose his balance.
Greetings. What style of Taiji is this? The way you apply the ''Single whip'' at the end of the video looks quite different from what I had been taught though. I was taught to pull the opponent's arm across my chest instead.
nice push hand drills. It looks like you've developed great flow. It's also refreshing to see the maturity you show in handling all of the comments of people who aren't familiar with it.
This is a very clear demonstration by two people with good skills. I'm very impressed. I trained in Taiji competition forms for a long time and won some stuff too before I started trying to learn Tui Shou. I got thrown about like a rag-doll by everyone in the class (and I mean EVERYONE). A humbling and valuable experience but hard on the ego. Everything I was doing LOOKED right, but wasn't. Taiji without Tui Shou IS just dancing. The difference is not readily evident on casual inspection.
Beautiful!! Only people that have tried Tai Chi pushing hands on their on body executed by masters will ever have a clear understanding of the true power when mind, spirit and body all become one. I understand why people get confused though:-) But you guys are for real...thanks for posting!!
as for the movie shown here... whoaaa ... it's one of best performance I've seen. Obviously it is more of a DISPLAY but done both gracefuly and skillfuly. Btw 1:33 - 2:18 ... omg that's some amazing leg strength (not only because they/you were able to do it, but also without any visible strain on the rest of the body)
As far as I'm aware push hands main design is to develop in performing it individual a sort of instinct that alows to interpret opponents intentions (not the general Idea "he's going to hurt me" but what will he do) and thus alowing to counter it with apropriate tai chi technique.
They're pretty good... They got pretty low too. It'd be hard to knock them off their center in that low of a stance. Still, I wish they pushed earlier to show the reason this martial arts is effective. The way they did it though wasn't too clear for people who don't understand.

@bookguy12000 ... thanks :) i don`t know where i look during a real fight, maybe i look to the "happening" not to opponent, or his center... just to the "happening" until now it worked out well... but on the other side, u r right... looking "away" from the opponent will not work:)
Actually yeah you're right, it's pretty important to see the actual action instead of just the peripheral if nothing else is happening. usually when i fight, I use peripheral vision when i know that my opponent will throw something unexpected, which is pretty often lol. But when your opponent is predictable like after someone gets up to your level, I guess it's okay to focus on the action instead of observing the opponent's entire body since you know what they'll do next.
@youlihan :-) this is ALOT harder than it looks! You blend well with each other and the energy is the driver here rather than the more obvious 'tells'. Your balance is superb and I get the feeling that throwing you would be alot harder than some might imagine. I also get the feeling that you don't give a monkeys about turning your head! There is more to this than meets the eye.....relaxation and timing - the core of any real martial art.
Nice dance - but it's not Tai Chi Chuan push hands (Tui Shou). These guys look soft but they're breaking just about every rule in the book in the name of "performance". If you want to see real push hands skill, check out GRANDMASTER HUANG SHENG SHYAN push hands.
Sinkandrelax, your comment does a disservice to G.M. Huang, & to these demonstrators. There are many aspects to tuishou training. Huang Laoshi's demos try to show what cannot be shown, & are difficult to understand. As good as Huang was, & as much as I respect the Zheng Manqing lineage, this is a much more practical demonstration than his are.
I'm sure G.M. Huang would not have insulted these folks. In fact, I suspect he would have applauded their excellent (and very classy) demonstration.
I thought this clip was rather poor to be honest their back foots are not well rooted at all, and theres plenty of partss where that body is not moving as one unit. The one possible reason why this looks fluid is just because its been choreographed well. It is a display, and it isn't how Tui Shou would normally be practised.
you are gay! you don't see his neijia are very very good. I am a master of bai mei quan, i have to see any "white man "practice taiji, bagua.. and he is the best! congratulation shifu!
Nice demonstration. It even seemed in time with the music.
I think it is a great way to display the concepts of the internal styles. I feel sorry for the people who can't take it for what it is. I wonder why those people don't get in the ring with MMA guys very often.
It constantly amazes me how much egoistic posturing I see in martial arts comments sections. I have never heard a master of internal martial arts trash another practitioner. A small amount of research and the respect which is basic to ALL internal martial arts would quickly show these two men have been at it with great dedication for years. I note that many martial artists who lose fights, do so because they underestimate the opposition. Ego does not make masters.
On the other hand, a true seeker would be over the moon to receive any criticism that helps him, and would not engage in false humility to divert it. If you are beginners, then don't teach. If you teach, don't hide behind the word 'beginners'., because it rings hollow and cowardly, not noble and humble. On a more practical level, don't turn your body so far - my 15 year old son would launch you if you showed him your shoulder like that, never mind any serious push hands player - or attacker.
Hi Ghostfuture, thank u 4 ur comment. u speak from "true seeker", but who claimed to be a "true seeker"? maybe i will in the future, but right now, all i know is, that i still am a beginner.... And why i should not teach? If the people like to learn from THIS beginner, of course i give them all i have, even mistakes! So THEY have the opportunity for self-correcting-experience! About ur 15 year old son, maybe u r right :)
Then by the same token, why shouldn't people oppose your teaching? If nothing matters, then we just choose how to behave, according to our temprement. I choose to point out that calling oneself a beginner in this context is merely an excuse to excuse yourself from justified criticism. You can teach, no one is stopping you. But if you are a beginner, then learn from someone who isn't, the valuable lesson of stopping yourself, until you have the courage to stand by your teaching.
man u r right with everything u say... maybe even u spoke less ... even maybe i´m more worse than what u speak about me without knowing me :) anyway keep up the good work on giving others lections and maybe w`ll meet one day so we can know each other better ;) greetings from berlin... Ismet
Maybe we've already met. As for lectures, I'm not a beginner, so I choose to assert that I have the knowledge to comment on those who promote poor practice. Saying 'yeah you're right' seems like unconcerned ego, but is really just ALL ego - ego defence 'don't criticise me'... Instead, realise it's not actually about you, just about training principles, learn the lesson - don't show the back of your shoulder, and don't promote effete, meaningless training whilst claiming to be a 'beginner'.
having an answer to everything doesnt make u right..always be open to the potential knowledge in others..it is important not to b held back by others and to be free in ur expression. many times it is honar and pride that is mistaken to b ego..without these u r inhuman and it is true we define and create ourselves but let us not forget how to cultivate our styles and behavior and eventualy our true selves thru honesty. jus chill n learn to b more human dude u will b more enlightened :)
@youlihan i was talkin to ghostfuture..i think..but thnx for considering my words youlihan lol..that is if u werent being sarcastic cus i rly cnt tell..u knw tha way the internet is n all..i cnt see u haha
someone who feels the same way i do...i am all about Peace and Love, and being human should only be about those two.. when we finally discover our true self, then we could find the true values of life and how to improve our way of living and spread happiness around us..since we are human, people today should focus on how to train their useless brain to find serenity in their own life, therefore bringing a positive energy to their surroundings..
Why do people like you have to come on here to bash others ? Most seekers are grateful any knowledge that can be passed along. If you ahve nothing positive to contribute then kindly find another thread to post your bs :)
Youlihan is closely censoring his comments page, so don't worry about him. As for 'why' I have to do it - I don't; I just choose to, out of sheer love of Chinese martial arts. Looking 'bad' for doing it is just the price that had to be paid - that was necessary, due to people like this putting themselves first, and the art second. The sad thing is, with a little less ego, and a little more receptivity to criticism, he could improve from this, actually lower than beginner level. Bad level.
You Li Han and Dennis Leudtke are most certainly NOT beginners. They are demonstrating a form, not fighting. The demonstration with eyes closed is to instruct us, to direct us to the internal recognitions which advanced martial arts all require. Clearly this is a formal demo and not a fight.
who fights with no eyes. blind men. these men are not blind. It looks nice but its a set . do you fight with your eyes closed ? if you do, you are true masters. why you practice with your eyes closed. amateurs for sure.
i dont think its a serious question, but dont try to "block" a boxer, go practice boxing and u will learn! who tries to "block" a boxer man? move ur head and body out of his punches, this is "blocking" ur boxer!
I challenge anyone to challenge a master of pushands, its like fighting a ghost. They make your own weight and momentum your enemy. An exercise in frustration.
Looks ALOT like Zhao Bao style..of course, I probably haven't read something on the post that clearly states that what it is..but, just in case, that's exactly what it looks like.
I know that you already told us you spent six years learning on Wudangshan-- But how many years altogether have you been practicing Chinese martial arts?
it is an art and it is a dance... like all the "things" in our universe... look at the earth - the moon; aren`t THEY dancing too? look at the Sun - the planets; aren`t THEY dancing too? Look at the Atom, neutron, electron, proton, aren`t THEY dancing too? From the most huge until the most small... everything is a kind of "DANCE".... "harmony"... this is what we do.
hey, this is no spititual and have nothin to do with yoga.... its just our "reality". Anyway push-hands is a partnerwork from taijiquan. U can say its a dance, cause the partners work "togeather". it have nothing to do with "fight", or "self-defence" it is just partnerwork.
its also about developing sensitivity, to feel your enemy's actions and know trough the energy flow what your opponent is thinking and planning of doing. and by this you can counterattack. the meaning is always trying to be on the "positive side" do deflect the negative energy away from yourself and thus use your attackers energy against himself. :-) great performance of these techniques as you can see here in this video. :-)
HEY Marcelo!!! Wie geht es Dir? Es freut mich so sehr, das hier zu lesen!! Du weist doch besser als ich, dass ich kein "Master" bin... haha, das ist echt toll! Ich schreibe Dir mal über deinen Chanel! Bis dann :) Ismet
You're kidding right? The guy in the gray is extremely good. The young man in the blue is very talented but he hasn't mastered the subtleties of Toushou.
doesn't look so. The guy in blue has a lot of work to do on his center and opening of the hips. Movements are soft though. The guy in grey looks very centered, with open hips. Clearly at a much higher level.
yes we do :) and HOW wie do it!! I like to dance! Aspecially with good partners ;) DANCING; let me fly into the Heaven. And dancing with a partner let both fly!
there r no tai chi fighters, there r no wing tsun fighters, there r ONLY fighters. U can use the TAIJI-PRINCIPLES in a fight... most of the SANDA fighters do, even the movements doesnt look like any TAIJIQUAN, but the applications ARE INDEED TAIJIQUAN Principles. For a good SANDA(chinese free fight) Fighter u can look "Salikov Muslim"(europe, ru), or "Liu Hai Long"(china). For a "traditional" fighter, there is "Chen Bing"(Taijiquan, Chen Village, China). Greetings.

The one possible reason why this looks fluid is just because its been choreographed well. It is a display, and it isn't how Tui Shou would normally be practised.

@Blackdog23a .... yes, its only the routines, nothing else guys... chill... and yeah... we working on our rooting, thanks :)

Ghostfuture 2 years ago
Hi Ghostfuture, thank u 4 ur comment. u speak from "true seeker", but who claimed to be a "true seeker"? maybe i will in the future, but right now, all i know is, that i still am a beginner.... And why i should not teach? If the people like to learn from THIS beginner, of course i give them all i have, even mistakes! So THEY have the opportunity for self-correcting-experience! About ur 15 year old son, maybe u r right :)
youlihan 2 years ago

Ismet
youlihan 2 years ago
Maybe we've already met. As for lectures, I'm not a beginner, so I choose to assert that I have the knowledge to comment on those who promote poor practice. Saying 'yeah you're right' seems like unconcerned ego, but is really just ALL ego - ego defence 'don't criticise me'... Instead, realise it's not actually about you, just about training principles, learn the lesson - don't show the back of your shoulder, and don't promote effete, meaningless training whilst claiming to be a 'beginner'.
Ghostfuture 2 years ago
thank u 4 ur efforts! I will try to understand u! best wishes...
youlihan 2 years ago
having an answer to everything doesnt make u right..always be open to the potential knowledge in others..it is important not to b held back by others and to be free in ur expression. many times it is honar and pride that is mistaken to b ego..without these u r inhuman and it is true we define and create ourselves but let us not forget how to cultivate our styles and behavior and eventualy our true selves thru honesty. jus chill n learn to b more human dude u will b more enlightened :)

someone who feels the same way i do...i am all about Peace and Love, and being human should only be about those two.. when we finally discover our true self, then we could find the true values of life and how to improve our way of living and spread happiness around us..since we are human, people today should focus on how to train their useless brain to find serenity in their own life, therefore bringing a positive energy to their surroundings..

Why do people like you have to come on here to bash others ? Most seekers are grateful any knowledge that can be passed along. If you ahve nothing positive to contribute then kindly find another thread to post your bs :)
Bowser666 2 years ago
Youlihan is closely censoring his comments page, so don't worry about him. As for 'why' I have to do it - I don't; I just choose to, out of sheer love of Chinese martial arts. Looking 'bad' for doing it is just the price that had to be paid - that was necessary, due to people like this putting themselves first, and the art second. The sad thing is, with a little less ego, and a little more receptivity to criticism, he could improve from this, actually lower than beginner level. Bad level.
Ghostfuture 2 years ago
You Li Han and Dennis Leudtke are most certainly NOT beginners. They are demonstrating a form, not fighting. The demonstration with eyes closed is to instruct us, to direct us to the internal recognitions which advanced martial arts all require. Clearly this is a formal demo and not a fight.
ffferol 2 years ago
who fights with no eyes. blind men. these men are not blind. It looks nice but its a set . do you fight with your eyes closed ? if you do, you are true masters. why you practice with your eyes closed. amateurs for sure.

hey everybody i need advice how do we block boxer/
vietxforlifex 2 years ago
i dont think its a serious question, but dont try to "block" a boxer, go practice boxing and u will learn! who tries to "block" a boxer man? move ur head and body out of his punches, this is "blocking" ur boxer!
youlihan 2 years ago
best thing is to evade/dodge, but if you cant deflect. block is only a last resort as you still take most of the impact

I challenge anyone to challenge a master of pushands, its like fighting a ghost. They make your own weight and momentum your enemy. An exercise in frustration.

do you mind telling me what "push hands" is?
is it some kind of art. or dance?
Ozzy0sbourne 2 years ago
it is an art and it is a dance... like all the "things" in our universe... look at the earth - the moon; aren`t THEY dancing too? look at the Sun - the planets; aren`t THEY dancing too? Look at the Atom, neutron, electron, proton, aren`t THEY dancing too? From the most huge until the most small... everything is a kind of "DANCE".... "harmony"... this is what we do.
youlihan 2 years ago
im not really... spiritual... or ... yoga...
to be honest im about as deep as a kiddie pool
Ozzy0sbourne 2 years ago
hey, this is no spititual and have nothin to do with yoga.... its just our "reality". Anyway push-hands is a partnerwork from taijiquan. U can say its a dance, cause the partners work "togeather". it have nothing to do with "fight", or "self-defence" it is just partnerwork.
youlihan 2 years ago
its also about developing sensitivity, to feel your enemy's actions and know trough the energy flow what your opponent is thinking and planning of doing. and by this you can counterattack. the meaning is always trying to be on the "positive side" do deflect the negative energy away from yourself and thus use your attackers energy against himself. :-) great performance of these techniques as you can see here in this video. :-)

Excellent.
The GREY got the essence of Internal art ALREADY.
My only suggestion to him is to find a very heavy boxingbag and try to push it.
Then he should be able to find that, in real fight his form just need a little modification to be perfect.
Again, he is very good and better than many Chinese masters and thanks you guys for the clip.

Both are good,
however my suggestion for the BLUE one as blow:
1. to train more for foot dynamic & static balancing skill which usually refered as ROOTING.
2. to train more for WHOLE body turning in stead of turning only the upper half of body.
He is talented, but not yet.

You're kidding right? The guy in the gray is extremely good. The young man in the blue is very talented but he hasn't mastered the subtleties of Toushou.
Ryooken 3 years ago
doesn't look so. The guy in blue has a lot of work to do on his center and opening of the hips. Movements are soft though. The guy in grey looks very centered, with open hips. Clearly at a much higher level.

there r no tai chi fighters, there r no wing tsun fighters, there r ONLY fighters. Greetings.
