Actually, it does change people. Check out the stats: intelligence and reading books vs crime. Stats are not in favor for you theory. TV makes people less sensitive to traumatic images and acquaint them with low emotions. Reading, however, seems to develop general imagination and forces people to ponder the content, since books lack many details that TV brings us withing the picture.

Yep, I do, but not in your language. However, in countries, where the average life rate is higher (with small extremes, unlike multi-layer USA), crime rates are lower. Compare USA and Canada, UK and Switzerland etc. and some other developed countries.

Remember than our primal instincs are social. People feel good when they help each other. People are inherently ambiguous, saying they are mostly selfish is only a part of the truth.
