  • can you push the bullet into the shell to far, so it is under the recommended length? if so how do you fix it to make it longer again?

  • You really have some great videos. Honest and real. Good work!

  • nice!

  • Now matter how much I try to tweak my RCBS bullet seating die, I can't seem to get the OAL perfect. I'm loading .45-70 Government to fire in my Ruger #1. I just reloaded my first batch. I thought I had the die set perfectly, I loaded 22 cartridges, and now all my bullets are between 2.530 and 2.533. The SAAMI specification is 2.525. How dangerous is this do you think?

  • @idsman75 This is an older post, but not dangerous. When you're under the recommended case length, you can cause pressure spikes, but loading too long really doesn't cause unsafe conditions. Too long can cause feeding problems though, and it depends on the gun. If 2.525 is what you're aiming for, bring the die in a little more. +/-3 thousandths is within the margin of error for loading. So don't worry about it.

  • You mention that lee provide a 'to scale' picture of the maximum length of a cartridge in their instructions. As a matter of interest i measured my picture in the lee instructions I have and it is by no means accurate. Secondly, when I started reloading I seated the bullet as you are doing now ie just by measuring. However, I improved my rifles accuracy greatly by actually working out my rifles overall maximum length ie when the bullet just touches the rifling, and then backing off 1/16".

  • Do you not clean the cases after you have resised it and removed the primer?

  • i give the cases a wipe down and then throw them back in the tumbler if i have time

  • Thanks for your reply.Who do you recomend in the UK for reloading equipment?Do any of the companies you use supply new cases?I know you used to be able to buy new brass so you could load your own special loadings, this was about 12 years ago now though. What is your favourite brand of primer? How much are we looking at now for powder, primers, bullets? As I say been a long time since I looked at reloading.Despite the VCA law I assume its still possible to buy primers and bullets mail order? powder no

  • When I asked about costs,I was thinking about costs for .223 Rem or Win 30-30 or whatever calibre you reload. How many times can you reload a single case before its deemed unusable? That thought never crossed my mind in the past! My shooting partners used to reload most of their ammo,I shot small calibre stuff .22LR and .22Hornet so reloading was not an option.Costs these days no doubt enforce reloading, eps in the UK.Have you ever had a duff reload?i.e.hang fire, squib, failure, case split?Ta

  • sportsman gun centre and midwayukdotcom are good for reloading equipment. I don't think it is possible to get primers and powder sent mail order now i know you used too. Now when i go to buy primers the gun shops whan to see my FAC. Powder is still unrestricted however with the current state of afairs most gun shops will want to see a licence for powder aswell. Check out my new reloading vids should answer some of you questions. .22 hornet is reloadable becuase it is a centre fire cartridge

  • Favorite brand of primer is fedral match and remington benchrest. Never had any problems with any of my reloads.

  • Good job. Thank you.

    Michael

  • It will tear up your barrel if you fire it. I think you have to just throw the round away.

  • Use a kinetic bullet pulling hammer to dismatle the round and start again. if you can do that and it is massivly seated too deep then dispose of the round safely

  • takes to long. It's for someone that does not have a job, and is really board

  • Its really about saving money !!

talk about being board.. get your thumb out of your butt and go for a walk!

  • good video. BUT.....sort bullets first because even though the die is set correctly for one cartridge, does not mean that the next bullet seated will produce the exact same cartridge overall length. I know this is nitpicking and not important for plinking ammo. BEWARE: i just purchased 1000 bulk remington 55 grn fmj. i calipered them ALL. spread from .714"-.747". certainly with these variations the ogive is not consistent. just food for thought. BUT, great video. keep up the good work!

  • The length of the bullet will have no effect on the length of the overall cartridge. No matter the length of the bullet or the casing, it will always be the exact length of the stroke of the press.

Think about it - if the bullet is a little longer, then it is just going to get pushed farther down into the neck, and if the casing is a bit long same thing (not saying that either are good things to happen, that is just how it works) No mater the length of your parts, the die is set for .223

  • oops, screwed up on the very last part, i meant to say: The die is set of (overall cartridge length - dont feel like sifting through the video to find the exact number)

  • I like your vids and find them helpful, but you really should edit your opening slide to spell "Education" correctly.

  • LOL i am severely dyslexic so i can sometime spell my own name wrong and not notice sometimes. I should realy correct the spelling but the videos have been up so long and you are the first person to comment on it so i will just leave it. Thanks for telling me though, i will put a note in the description of the videos. Thanks

  • LOL.. what? I needa check this out again I never even realised!! oh god I need to see a doctor!

  • been shooting for years and just started to get some reloading gear up together and to watch a practicle lesson has been very helpfull. nice 1!

  • This is a great video set I have a friend who has just started to reload rifle and carbine ammo and its help him with the process sometimes reading it a book and then seeing it helps greatly.

Ps a bit more light on the vid would have been good.

    great job
