Thanks very useful, i think i need to become much more flexible as when I'm running i feel allot more constrained than those runners look, although I've never really seen my self run.
Marathon dates back to the ancient Greece when a Greek man runs for miles only to inform the Greeks that the Persian invasion were repulsed in a battle known as the Battle of Marathon. unfortunately,i don't know the exact date it happened but i can recommend marathon athletes viewing this video complete marathon and half marathon training guides. plz contact me through ksatriakmal@yahoo.com if u r interested in marathon training.tq
Actually, this is pretty close to barefoot running technique. The knee bend and foot landing under the center of gravity are two key elements. And for most of them, when the foot hits the ground, it's pretty close to midfoot.
@silentboyfilms supposed to of course performance enhancing drugs make a difference and a few have been disqualified like hellebuyk who made it difficult for us the last time we entered so not sure if entering again due to other issues. wanna finish top ten not just race it otherwise kind of a drag no pun intended. they should test all who make top ten in all marathons PE drugs are rampant. cheers
running up/down the hills should be studied as well since you could possibly reduce your time significantly they[ethiopeans/kenyans]have a winning style but not the only style. to beat 2 hours flat faster pace or push up/down the hills that would render this style as simply unorthodox
Hi mate, could you tell me what program you use to analyse these runners. Do you know where I can get a free program on the internet that will slow down video footage ?
What approach has worked for you in treating ITBS? I'm into my second month of a flare up and I still can't run more than 30 mins. Stretching and strengthening hips & glutes, deep tissue massage, icing, and foam rolling regularly and I'm still plagued by ITBS.
@medliberty Absoutely! Strengthen the "gluteus medius" muscles like there's no tomorrow. The gluteus medius is not JUST your butt as whole -- it's a very specific muscle on the lateral part of the hip that helps you to stride out.
@SavedByGraceAdam Thanks for that encouragement. I've been doing hip abductor exercises daily (sometimes 2/day) for the past several months. I'm much stronger in that area and I think that strength will result in faster times and fewer injuries.
@gondwanalon Nike just signed a 90year old marathoner. I did a 210km hard bike ride today with a 73 year old. Leave you 'Im too old 'BS for Jerry Springer. ;)
Yes the high back lift is actually a fundamental part of this gait cycle, and that actually give the 'air time' and littel verticle oscillation due to the pendulum swing of the leg.
The high backlift itself is helped by the spring effect of tendons etc utilising some energy from the contact force.
I am surprised that this essential part of the cycle is not given a mention.
btw interesting to confirm that the lasies do not have as much exaggeration in this lift.
what i noticed too is that when all of the extremely good Kenyan and Ethiopian runners are running, right after their foot hits the ground and come up and is in the process of moving forward again, the back of their heel comes up and it goes all the way up to their butt. Has anybody noticed that? if so why?
This is very interesting. The male runners were landing midfoot - not heel hitting. It looked like some of the women were coming down on their heels first - ever so slightly.
they make it look so easy...

So, in addition to running, is it worthwhile to do hip strengthening exercises?

Good video. There are no secrets to fast running. You just need bold determination and blind defiance. Oh and a young body too. HA!

The hips are the deal, that's for sure.

Wow I give you 10 points for this perfect example in how the hip plays a key factor in long optimal stride running.
