Oh my God! I remember I had to have been at the most 4 years old and saw this movie I don't know if it was in Germany or San Francisco but I never forgot it! I am 24 years old now and found it by typing "Mother Sea" lyrics and discovered it was featured in this film. Ah, the good ol' days!

This movie actually made me afraid of the ocean, which for an Australian child, is a healthy fear (so long as one doesn't become irrational. Beaches are fine, but always beware).

cool! I was 6 or 7 when I saw this movie. my grandmother taped it off of cable, but the first 15 minutes or so were missing. finally, I can see the whole story.

I always thought Moby Dick was a bit of a jerk for telling Dot that if Tonga wants to die, then she should just go die.

@IslandGTR I feel the exact same way!!! I must have been around 4 or 5 when I saw this movie, I used to watch it all the time with my mom. I am now turning 27 next months, and it's weird because I just went to a store and found the Dot & The Kangaroo dvd for $1!!!!! So I came home and searched for the other Dot movies and found all of them. Gotta love YouTube!!

This is a favorite movie of mine since I was a child. I love the songs. Movie's like this one, Dot and the Kangaroo, the Bear and Benji shaped me into becoming an enviromentalist and animal lover. Thanks for posting and bring back good memories.

What funny here is that "Dot and the Whale" was released the same year as the "Save the Whales" campaign of 1986, along with another such film "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home", and when Johnny Carson hosted the Oscars that year he quipped, "I'm all for saving the whales and I'm opposed to whacking baby seals on the head with clubs".
