  • Although speaking in english and coming from india, anand's modest and humble politeness reminds me of a former world champion max euwe who i had the honour to play blitz with for an hour in amsterdam in 1975. He was so nice to us group of amateurs and gave us some tips on the noble game and he listened intently to our ideas. Amazingly i managed to win the final game, but to this day i think he blundered his queen away on purpose so as to give "some" respectability to my score.(11 loses! 1 win)

  • Hey Anand would you like to play Hou Yifan 12 games?

  • Uh yeah? That was my point.

  • классный тип

  • next time he won, good for vishy. 2012 he'll win again!

  • anand is a gentle giant'''

he doesnt look like a good player but incredible to see this dude playing at a 2800 level

he has set the era of a modern day World chess champion

half a million , he must be filthy rich giving tutorials 2

  • I love geniuses without egoes..

  • @majesticmaniac cocky heroes dont last long.

  • @1rd69 who r u referring to??

  • Anand is really a terrific and refreshingly genuine chess personality. It is great to have someone like him as world champion. It is not just Indians who should be proud of him!

  • congrats anand for retaining the world title once again...JAY HO!

  • won 2,000,000 Euro today. Good for him. throughly deserved it.

  • Anand is a gentleman. It's nice to see him having success as World Champion these days.

  • "I hope you all had a lot of fun watching the event", what does he say after this? i can't hear well...

  • @cuahtemoc83 "especially today's nail-biting finish"

What a classy gentleman Anand is.

  • anand is great

  • Mr. Anand has aged well and I am excited to see his upcoming chess play.

  • 500k in 1995, imagine how much it is today

  • 500k damn...

  • well its the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP, so obviously. The world championship in any sport is well payed, but outside the highest level tournaments there is no money in chess

  • holy motherfucker !!!! 500 thousand dollars for a lost game ??? chess are pretty well payed sport i must say .... WOW !!!

maybe even more than golf ... and i like chess much more than golf ....

  • Keep in mind that the World Championship in chess is the only event that nets that kind of money. In the whole spectrum of professional sports, chess may be the least lucrative of all. :)

  • @vmfedor uhhh Alex Rodriguez gets north of $20,000,000 per year playing baseball, formula one drivers get MINIMUM 5 million pounds for a victorious season.

  • @misterkefir

The check was for the entire match; not for one game. A match is exhausting, requiring months of preparation.

  • @misterkefir It's only well-paid if you're constantly competing for the world championship map. Money-wise it's pretty much an oligarchy at the top. Imagine the NBA with only Kobe, Lebron, Wade, etc. getting paid handsomely. The rest would be struggling to pay next month's rent.

  • he is a genius, anand has been our inspiration love u anand and keep us shining best regards bharat(kanpur,UP)

  • If Kasparow wouldn't exist Anand would became world champion much earlier. Without Kasparow i can't see any better player at all.

  • what does he said in the end that every boy laugh?? ... nail by what finsh???... somebody please answer. i have to translate to spanish.

  • He said 'Nail-biting finish.' I speak very little spanish so I can't offer a translation, but it 's an expression that means a 'very suspenseful ending.'

  • @imbessenger nail biting finish

  • He´s a Genius !!

  • GO INDIA! In 2008 we won every International chess tournament. Our juniors, sub juniors, seniors and super seniors all won their respective events hands down.

  • Anand recently (December 2008) stated that his regret is that Kasparov retired too early and that he could not play him! What's that? Did Anand mean that the games they played don't count, or that he was not the real Anand during those games? For the record, they played 69 games, Kasparov +23, Anand +8 and 38 draws. Didn't they play for the title in 1995? Wasn't kasparov +4, Anand +1, 13 draws? So, Anand what exactly you have to say to that!

  • @ndiroufik

Chess is a game of experience. It was Anand's first WCC match and Kasparov was a veteran at playing WCC at that time. Chess is a combination of not only talent but ability to soak up pressure and keep composure. Today's Anand would have taken blows from Kasparov but every chance he would have come back better than he did during 1995. Anyway for the record Kasparov is one of the all time giants of the game, so too is Anand who I rate as one of the great natural talents in the history.

  • LOL, only a Billion people to choose from :)

  • you know what..India is a country where people don't really take sports as a career option.People are all about board exams, marks, entrance exams, doing engineering, doing MS and settle with a white collar job. There are very few people like Anand who chase what they like and what they believe in.

  • yea, you guys rocked chess in 2008. Im looking forward to the Anand-Topalov match. Can India take the title again - or will it go back to "the soviets"?

  • go Anand!!! Tamilnadu is proud of you.

  • dear brother karthisarck - not only tamilnadu - but the whole india is proud of anand. not only he has shown his chess skills but also shown how gentleman he is even at reaching at the top level. i think lot of people should learn a lesson from his career for dedication, hard work and achieving goals in life - be it in chess or in any field.

  • sorry India is proud of Anand. He is a modest genius. I am not bro,I am sis btw.

  • Dude I get scared looking at this guys face.

I'm looking at a FUCKING GENIUS I promise you.

Grandmasters like these are no joke, they can really tell your smart college professors to FUCK OFF.

  • Wonderful and charming Anand. A great ambassador for chess.

  • anand is a nice and sociably guy. he's definitively one of the most talented GM in history of chess. the only reason because he didn't become worldchampion 15 years ago was kasparow.

  • Anand says at the end ill do it better. do what better?

  • 500k thats some serious money.

  • "500k thats some serious money."

well it was back then.. Hopefully he spent it, cos if it was US$ , it's lost alot of its buying power !

  • but then euro is down, eg. france is bankrupt.

he could buy less now, but he can still keep it in the bank.

  • 500k is shit money for champion i think. Even loosers in football or basketball gains milions... :(

  • Anand received it. Not Kasparov.

  • I'm glad that one of the few indian grandmasters is world champ.

  • Anand looks very formal and an intelligent person :) no wonder he's the former World Rapid Chess Champ...

  • Watch also Aishwarya rai desert rose best sitei n youtube, Anand go ahead and strike.

  • I find Anand a very likable person.

  • Completely.

  • @Robotman42 Agree.He's always been a humble Genius.

  • Hey Anand, my uncle told me that you started playing when you were still young in Manila. Is it true?

  • So can you pwn someone in chess or is that just in other games?

    OR

What do you call it when you pwn someone in chess?

  • GO Indians! ; )

    UNDISPUTED WORLD CHAMPION

  • We all know Indians are smart, no need to brag

  • LOOOOOOOOOOL come on man you'd be proud as hell too if a person of your race was #1 in something as respected as Chess...not that you wouldn't be proud if someone OUTSIDE your race was #1 in it.

  • Yeah I know the feeling, we have Gary Kasparov lmao

  • lol yeah im a fan of his work/style as well no doubt

  • Anand is one of the classiest chess players out there. It is rare to find a grandmaster with a pleasant personality. Anand is rare.

  • i guess he likes curry

  • Anand is the classiest World Chess Champion EVER! He's gotten there twice through hardship, FIDE mistakes, unecessary rematches, but he ALWAYS keeps a cool head and shows great humility. Chess champions like the recently deceased Bobby Fischer could've learnt so MUCH from him and maybe gone on to live a better, healthier and longer life than be suppressed by their own egos :-(

  • there is lot of zeros that would be nice

  • IM AN INTERNET ATHLETE

  • VISHWANATHAN ANAND IS THE WORLD CHAMPION. E DEFEATED KASPArov.

    so sing paens to vish.

    pradeep

  • =) Anand = World Champ

  • I miss professional chess playing Kasparov

  • well if ur bitching bout sore losers keep in mind anand got half a mill for losing

  • well, you also have to keep in mind- almost all other professional atheletes get millions just for playing.

  • fine, professional atheletes. I'm glad I don't hate myself enough to troll around myspace looking to hate on people. But, just another word- I read in a dictionary, looked up sport. it said- Game governed by a set of rules and an officiating body. So, suck it.

  • See, chess world that is what you call "professionally" losing! Bravo, Anad you did well! :)
