i figure its just as easy if not easier to make a new window for related tabs. but nifty nonetheless, id probably use it if for nothing other than novelty.
This feature sucks ass...knew I shouldn't have updated, I can't use my colored self-organizing (based on domains) tab-addon anymore? well fuck you mozilla. There's no need to fucking reinvent the wheel jerkoffassholes...
i cant understand why people would want to open so many tabs in their browser that they actually have to make groups to help them remember what they are for !!
Watch a Pre-January 8th copy of Inception. Listen closely when the actors say imagine, reality, and safe, or point pistols. You'll hear the words, Loughner, offin' her, part of the word Giffords, and much more. Some say they hear, do it.
I like it.. very similar to Fences which does a similar thing with your deaktop in Windows7. And with the price of RAM these days you should have at least 6Gb and be running a 64bit OS to enjoy it.
This is really good for High Res photos...when I have a bunch of those open they either don't load or kill my computer. It'll be really useful for my dad as well. I've seen him with 50+ tabs open because of his job.
If you don't think this feature is useful don't use it.
@tjc232323 It used to be Ctrl+Space, was then changed to Ctrl+E and has been Ctrl+Shift+E for a while now. Possibly so it doesn't conflict with other hotkeys across different platforms.
This should be kept as an add-on, or an option you can turn of in which doing so would save on memory and performance (whether it has a small impact or not).
@Drumstix42 Firefox menu/options/toolbar layout... and then you just drag the button into the pop-up window, and you shouldn't have panorama anymore. Anyway, if you don't use it, I see no reason it should take over a Kb, or even that.
it is still there but for some reason the button is not in place by default. You will have to drag it out from the customization (where all the buttons are hiding). Just click the orange firefox button than options and click on the very last option.
ok to me this is a completely useless and over the top so you can see your tabs in a pretty way...i usually have at least 10-12 tabs open and I have never had a problem seeing as i have the ability to read...but i digress I guess stupid people need to browse the web too...
It may not have occurred to you that not everyone uses the browser in the same way as you do. I currently have over 30 tabs open, and regularly get up to in excess of 60 tabs.
With this large number of tabs, I use separate windows with multiple tabs in, maybe one window with multiple tabs for research on the Cold War, another for general browsing and so on. Tab groups like those in the video might be useful for such occasions.
@biggyblack648 It's going to be useful in that I can have one window open but within in that window I can have school related tabs clumped together (since I'm taking online classes) and my other tabs regarding entertainment or social sites clumped together and then as the video shows I can make the less important groups less prominent but not have to close them out completely. Can you explain how having groups of tabs together means inability to read? Because that's a moronic statement...
really cool for those of us who insist of keeping 25+ tabs per window perpetually open. actually, it's long overdue. what's the verdict on appetite for ram?
This is a pretty neat tool but like other members have said, there's a lot of clicking to go around groups you want to view. They should make shortkeys or hotkeys even to quickly jump through the groups of tabs you want.
Oh. Forgot to say in my last comment that this could be useful, but it's basically another version of switch to tabs. They're both the same thing except Panorama is easier to use.
@TheIphonesonicfan2 Could you spam this video with anymore comments? Anyway, you can add the button by right clicking an empty space, customize, and adding the button. You can customize all the buttons, probably why some weren't there. Someone interested in a beta should know this kind of basic stuff
Oh, when I did panorama, the plus button, give feedback button, reset button, and the other button on the lower right side of the video weren't there. I bet in the next beta, a new feature will be an improved version of panorama.
actually panorama is included... however it seems we didnt get the cool button to access from one click, is either right click on a tab, or the key shorcuts that are said in the video
@TeeBeeNZ Really? I have beta 4 on my mac and it doesn't have Panorama. I would make a video proving that this is beta 4 and I don't have it but I don't know how to record my screen. If anyone could tell me how, I will do a review of firefox 4 beta 4.
But when I right click on a tab, there is a button that is a shortcut to Panorama and let's me create a new group. But instead, it either takes to a different tab that is open, closes the tab I was just on then takes me to another tab, or just stays on the current tab I am using. So please re-release this with Panorama or just say it's not a finished feature called Panorama and will be available in the next beta.
And also at the beginning of the video, he says that you already discovered panorama. I also have a mac, downloaded beta 4 and I see nothing. And there at the beginning of the video, it says "Minefield Start Page" when it should say thank you for downloading firefox 4 beta 4.
WAIT 1 SECOND! You said that Panorama is in Firefox 4 beta 4. But on the top in Panorama, it says "Minefield Tab Sets". Shouldn't it say "Firefox Tab Sets"? This is obviously a trunk of beta 5. So you tricked us by saying that Panorama is in firefox 4 beta 4 when it's not. Everybody who reads this comment, if you have your hands on firefox 4 beta 4, do a review of it and say that panorama is supposed to be added but wasn't. Spread the word until Mozilla knows about this.
@ShadowwwLFS Thing is were not talking about the usual old "Oh, no Fx uses 350 MB of RAM" we're talking "Holy potato, My Firefox is consuming 2.5 GB of RAM" and this, even thou its a fantastic feature, won't help.
@TheBoredSwede I've been running over 300 tabs in groups since this update, all I can say is it is just brilliant. I'm already unsure how to do without it.
The one downside though, is the ram. Its currently using 1.3gb of it. Although, at the moment with closer to 400 tabs that is still pretty good in my book.
@TheBoredSwede Not really. Firefox 4 has better RAM management. It's definitely not worse than just having all those tabs open.
I still do not like that groups are only available in the panorama, though. It's really easy to forget about the windows you can't see. I'm not sure how the actual function is any different from being able to open multiple windows, and at least you couldn't accidentally close those.
