I have a 40 gallon tank with several communal fish in it, betas, tetras, barbs, frogs, loaches, etc. I just put one of these in the tank and he's about the size of a beta fish right now. When he gets older, will he eat all the other fish? Right now he eats with the rest of them and doesn't fight or bully anyone but I understand he will grow to 8 to 10 inches.
@Dessesbo I likely have gotten to you too late, but the answer to your question is yes. A jack dempsey will quickly eat your other fish once large enough.
Hi can anyone help I have a fish like this but it's looks slightly different top fin is smaller and rigid is it because it's younger? I was told it was a blue acora but I'm not sure from what pics I've seen of them. Anyone help? I can email you a picture as I have a copy on my phone parsons238@hotmail.com. If u want to help cheers
currently i have a small electric blue, which was born in my tank and the only fry of about 500 that was quick and smart enough to survive, a special fish to me, 4 wks ago i added a 2 inch tiger oscar, i love how good they look together, will post soon, check out the father of my electric blue, its like my only post so far, im curious as to how big ur fish is, the big blue in my vid was probably at or just over 8in
the only reason people get there tanks poisoned is they are shit at looking after their fish. i clean my undergravel tank once a month because it is so clean and stays that way. No cloudiness, any algae i scrub off and with the filters you needa change the little head things at the top (that water exits) mine is getting green and i should change it.
I heard undergravel filters can be toxic, thats why i've shyed away from them, Hoe did you keep big blue so healthy i just got 3 of my own and they already have that not eating white poo shit, already treating em though. Do you have any suggestions? How do you feel about uv steralizers? And what kind of food will my little guys eat? They aren't eating much, anyways any help would be tight.....thanks
I have used UG filters for years. I have heard about the possibility of toxins in them but have never experienced or talked to anyone that actually experienced it in 20 years!
As for general problems, just make sure the bio filter is working (no ammonia or nitrite) no chlorine and temperature is okay. Also make sure there is plenty of water movement at the surface for oxygenation. You could try a general med like aquarisol for parasites. If problems persist look for specifics... gasping, spots
Most of them are blue like this one as far as I know. A lot of local pet stores have them now and the price is coming down. Check Liveaquaria if you dont have a local pet store.
no this is a naturaly occuring colour. It has been DNA tested and the strains are identical. Some people arent satisfied with the results so they continue to question if its a hybrid.
He was about 6 inches when I purchased him but it was expensive! ($100) I just couldnt resist at the time because he was so unique. This was over 2 years ago and I hadnt seen any that big at the time.
It is a natural accurence in nature but rare. So when they find a male EBJD they mate him with a reg JD female then take a female baby from that batch and mate it with the EBJD male. That way both parents carry the gene and it is more common. Kinda neat huh
They are harder to get due to the breeding process it takes to get Electric Blue Dempseys and the fact they are somewhat expensive. Most stores can order them for you assuming their vendors have them in stock. But because of the price for EBJDs most stores dont carry them on a regular basis. Ask your local pet store about ordering them for you if they can.
The fish is 2-3 years old. I bought it fully grown so I cant be sure exactly. I bought it from a local pet store which doesn't carry them anymore so I don't know where you would find one now.
He's about 8 inches from the tip of his tail to the end of his nose. He hasn't grown much in the last year, maybe an inch or so which makes him about 7 inches in the video.

This guy is about 8 inches long as well. I think they are pretty much maxed out at that length. He hasn't gotten any bigger for a at least a year.

I wish I had space for an EBJD.
I heard they are more docile than standard ones, which is cool.
