I don't know whether to hate Asylum films or love them for their mockbusters. I guess you gotta love the stones on them to brave potential litigation by releasing knock-off films exactly when the real ones come out. But get past that, and the films themselves are sub SyFy channel level garbage. And you can always tell which former movie star is in desparate financial straits by appearing in Asylum films. Mark Dacascos is one, A Martinez and C Thomas Howell are two more.

Actually, if you wanna say this is a rip off - then you'd also have to say I am Legend is also a rip off - Last man on Earth 1964 I believe) came first, then Omega Man (1971 and by far the best), then I am legend and I am omega at pretty much the same time. Although I wish that they had been more faithful to the book with the virus. In the book, the virus turns people into vampires instead of deranged mutants. It's also possible that the vampires in I Am Legend inspired the Methuselah in Trinity Blood, since their vampirism is also caused by a virus.

I Am Legend is a book written in 1954. It was made in to The Last Man On Earth which was awful, and The Omega Man which was equally awful. The new movie is the first to be named from the book after being in development hell for years. Read the book, it's amazing and you can relate it to any date. Don't watch this crap. It's not even worthy to be Sci-Fi original movie.
