No worries! What about the 18" do you not like/regret? I have heard so many conflicting opinions regarding the 18" vs 14" its driving me crazy. I heard the 18" is perfect and the 14" drones like crazy betwee 1700-2000 rpms, the I read somewhere else that the 14" has hardly any drone at all and it isn't noticable on the freeway. Ugghh....so confusing. lol Wish Magnaflow made a 14" kit.
I am actually considering the Corsa Db 24310 exhaust as well.
@MCP2002 The ONLY regret I have about the 18" is that when the truck is warm especially during the summer months I wish it sounded a little more agressive. It still sounds aggressive, just not like it does when its cool. I cant speak for the 14", but the 18" has ZERO drone at highway speeds. I'ev used cruise ranging from 40-85mph and have yet to have reason to complain.
@Gamrman3 I completely agree. I have the 18" on my truck sounds great on cold startups and when you get into it. I do wish I would have gotten the 14" for a little more sound and aggression on a warm idol. I can't complain to much, the 18" Magnaflow muffler was only $99.
The 18" is quieter than the 14". Are you getting your mufflers reversed, Gamrman? Your video above is of the Magnaflow kit with the 18" muffler I believe. All of the Magnaflow kits have 18" mufflers.
Heatherandpaul2, check out the videos by 08Fx4. He has a few of his truck with the Magnaflow #12198 SI/DO muffler (3"ID/2.5"OD). Also, check out the video from a guy named macaboo. He has a 2010 with a Magaflow #12198 as well. IMO, his truck sounds amazing. The 14" sounds like a happy medium.
@MCP2002 No, sorry, I confused my self. This is a SI/DO 18" magna. Magna offers 21, 18, and 14" mufflers in this style. I went with 18 to be on the safe side. I wish I had gone with 14"
What do you think about this muffler? Please be honest. Louder than expected? Just right. Quieter than you would have liked. Im stuck between the 14 inch and th 18. Any reccommendations?
@heatherandpaul2 I am still very happy with the muffler. With that said I do wish I had gone with the 18". The 14" sounds very nice when the truck is cold, however, it is quieter than I would like once it is warm or when it starts up mid day. However, the nice thing about the 14" is that there is ZERO drone or highway noise when crusing. In my opinion, it sounds as a truck should when you buy it. Aggressive, but not obnoxious. Keep in mind i have a 5.4 engine. 4.6 and 4.2 will be even quieter
@Gamrman3 So do you recommend I get the 18 or 14. Im getting the same kit as you, but its those two sizes that I am stuck on. Have you heard a truck like ours with a 14????? Please help
@heatherandpaul2 Well, I have the 14, so I would say the 18. I say that because the 14 is a little quieter than I would like. It sounds like a truck should sound straight from the factory. So if want something that has a little more "muscle" sound, I would do the 18".
@Gamrman3 But the discription in tyhe video says you have the "5X8X18" muffler. I asked what you thought of the 18 because thats what I thought you had. So is this video the 14 or the 18??? You mentioned that the 14 is quieter than the 18. How is that so. The 18 is longer with more sound deadening material. My apologies, but Im confused. Sorry.
@heatherandpaul2 Im sorry, you are right. I confused my self. I have the 18" on my truck. The 18" makes the truck sound as it should come stock IN MY OPINION. If I had to do it over again, I would get the 14". I think it would make the truck sound more aggressive without being annoying on the highway. Sorry for the confusion.
@Gamrman3 Oh no biggie at all. I figured you had the numbers reversed. but I wanted to be sure. I love how Magnaflows sound on our trucks. Its the length that drive me crazy. I mean the 11, 14, 18, 22, 24, and 30 have a totally different sound!!!. 14 it is. Thank you for your help brother.
@heatherandpaul2 Ya I like the edge. Improves the drivability of the truck. Better throttle response, better shifting. If you put E85 in it and put it on level 3 its awesome...But with gas prices the way they are im using the E85 and towing...MPG's suck, but at least it doesnt cost $100 bucks to fill up.
If you really want the most out of the edge, buy a gryphon direct from phpperformance, or buy the edge, and send it to php. Php takes the edge and makes custom tunes for our trucks.

@heatherandpaul2 The gryphon is exactly like the edge. You will be able to either use the now "custom canned" tunes or you can use the "custom canned" and still modify certain parameters to your liking.
Wow, nice truck. I have a 2010 5.4 and I want to do the same thing. I want to go with the Volant intake because it seems to be a true cold air intake. I want the ram scoop also but Im not sure how its going ot work. Did you have to buy it seperately from the CAI? Do the CAI boxes have a means to conect the ram air scoop? Also, where does the scoop bolt on to the vehicle in order to get air? Was there any cutting involved? Thanks man.
Very happy with the Volant. The Ram air scoop is sold seperately for the 2004-2008 models. Cant speak for 09+. It connected to the tow hooks. No cutting or anything like that. The cai does have a designated opening for the ram air.
@Gamrman3 Hey just got a 08 f150 limited edition, im going to buy the volant cai, one question, will the ram air scoop work for me too? or will i have to cut into the bumper? did the intake help you alot with hp? and is the tuner worth the money, im looking to buy one of those as well so.
Nice truck, man. I got an '07 F-150, 5.4 Lariat with Magnaflow exhaust on it. Gonna try and put a gryphon tune on it and a CAI. Right now with just exhaust the 0-60 time is 7.9 seconds. Can't wait to tune it.
nice fx4 man! my father has a 07 xlt with a 5.4 triton, hes got a k&n intake, borla exhaust, and a edge evo set on level 2, and its a whole nre truck, sooo muchmore power than stock. i am shopping for a 04 and newer f150 after driving his for soo song!
Thanks man, ya I love it. Makes the truck so much nicer to driving having a little more power. Im getting ready to send my edge in to gryphon for some custom tunes.
You should hear mind. Volant, edge and straight 3", no muffler. Pipe still uses factory hangers. Sounds pissed everywhere I go haha. I noticed urs hit the rev limiter when it grabbed 1st around 2:50 mins. Mine did that too. I bought the EDGE and it stopped.. Had mine 4 years. good vid.
did the edge programmer help with the throttle response

The turn signals in these trucks are fine, but the damn dinger and seat belt chime dinger are annoying as hell.
DarrenWS6 2 years ago
you can turn the reminders off, check the owners manual on the seatbelt page, and theres a sequence that lets you turn it off.
ShamusOGrady2 2 years ago
