I as well can't wait to see what happens next,....if you now where to look you will find the world is still full of creative musicians,....they just don't make any money because the giant record companies have lost the will to market in favor of "sure things". While I can't say that I've heard much of Adrian's work outside of the Talking Heads,...I do count him as one of my favorite guitarists and an inspiration to my own work.
I saw Adrian back in the day with King Krimson in Detroit.About half way through the show,he got on the drums and absolutely amazed me even more than the great guitar playing I'd become accustomed to from him.An amazingly versatile musician. An artist in the truest sense.Music today is missing this type of genius. For those of you who've never seen him play live, you're missing out hard core!
I saw him live with Bowie in 1990. Black tie white noise tour in Cali. They rocked. Played all the old stuff with no theater. Golden Years, Station to Station, Panic in Detroit. Stuff like that
Fantastic musician (guitar player, drummer, singer, composer, and all that wrapped with a great stage presence) and an enormous inspiration for me. His works with Frank Zappa and King Crimson are legendary.
I dont knowhow the japanese mainstream/underground media show her but she has done amasing wor and the funnything is her music origenates from King Crimson's Robert Fripp with his dark ambient work+neoclassical music.
What im saying is that music ALWAYS has its connections from others and will always be creative/ experimental. you just have to do resertch music and find what youre looking for, I found king crimson from an LP that came with my vynal player. i could have said WTF is this crap.
He's definitely right about the cycles. We cry about how everything is pre-packaged but think about living in the US in the 1950's-1965 .. Rock n roll or nothing. and before that ? 1940-50 full fledged bebop jazz .. so yea, we're likely due but its getting harder and harder inspiring and teaching music to kids in school.
I don't think Alex is replaceable. Two different realms of music. I think Adrian is....well, not better than Alex. However, if Adrian would do a guest spot on the next Rush recording...that would be really interesting!
@Kegrath Perosnely I feel that it is atm, take lady gaga for e.g im not a fan of her work but i feel she is a proper artist, she gose for the sex sells approtch but not really a bad thing, Manowar went for sex sells and you can see how diffrent the 2 artists are. People seem to think that lady gaga has mainstream elements her music is shit. Bjork was also looking for mainstream elements along with alot of other things, a less notible minstream artist is Kanon Wakeshima.
I saw the Belew Power Trio last night in Tampa and he was just great (as were his very young sideman and sidewoman.) The sounds that guy gets from a guitar are amazing. Lots of artful but powerful songs.
"...Too much of today's music is fashionable crap dressed as artistry. It's mostly about the way you look and how you dance. I grew up in a golden age of ideas but things go in cycles. Maybe creativity will become fashionable again..."
If Mr Zappa were still around...he'd probably be saying the same thing...Frank probably rubbed off on Adrian...

While I respect Belew's playing, his attitude about modern music is such typical boomer snobbery, born of ignorance and fear of new things.
I too was there in the 70s/80s: the crap to creativity ratio was quite high, arguably far worse than today.
I haven´t found today such great bands that can replace the wonderful bands that surged beetwen 1965-1975... even if some of the new bands are pretty good
there's a song at 05:31 which fades out at 06:31 (was trying to put an end on Vampiricfang2009's "you mean 06:31?"), so there actually is a song there, but never mind it, i got the final results:
Excellent! I wonder if Adrian still has my Sharpie I gave him in Santa Barbara several years ago? I was a little drunk that night and really wanted him to sign my Roland Ready Stratocaster, but I left it in the studio.
Yes, champion the musicians and turn away from the pretenders... Keep the age of ideas alive! Thanks for uploading, (more exposure needed for the man.)
yes! is that positive enough? well... then... yes! yes!

If Alex Lifeson dies, They should hire Adrian Belew, so they can continue with Rush. He'll make it a LOT more interesting.

Now I know the 80's were bad but as a youth today I find that really hard to believe.
