SC is best flight sim ever made. Not just a flight sim but the gameplay also has realistic number of ammos.. AC's crap having 100+ missiles.. yeah very right how was that realistic?
What version of Strike Commander is this and what sound hardware do you use? The Strike Commander version I've played did not have engine sound nor a lot of the other sound effects -- I know there is a speech pack, perhaps this speech pack added improved sound effects in general and not just speech? Also the original version supported MT32/LAPC-I, do you use that sound card, or something else? Perhaps the speech pack supports newer sound cards like the AWE32?
@ioctlvoid Answering to this old question... To me the music on the video sounds like how the game sounded with Roland MT-32/CM-32L/LAPC-1 audio hardware, but the digitized sounds must be coming from some other sound card.
I think the expansion pack or the Gold version of the game added support also for General MIDI sound cards (like SB AWE32), but I have no idea if it sounds as good, as Strike Commander used Roland MT-32 capabilities very well.
the AA missiles worked fine, but yes usually it goes to vulcan fights
especially with the add-on where you fly in the YF-22, its supposed to be air superiority but really they nerfed how many missiles you could carry and made it more sluggish! so really it just made it harder.
I remember using guns a LOT in this game. It seemed no matter how crafty you were, your missiles ended up failing a lot. Epic game though. Every other flight sim since has seemed souless in comparison. Screw Ace Combat too.
i did not sleep for 4 days for this game...first time a game did it to me...i still have the copy, i run it on dos box...but is so slow, this game brings back good memories...
i remember this game when i was a kid, i spent alot of time to play it. one of best simulators i've played.
What i liked most about this pc was mostly the gameplay with this entire aspect of "managing budget", buying ammo, etc., + the story line + intro before each mission, i loved it !!!!!
just wished there would be some company willing to "sequel" that classic game to modern days pc's, allow us to enjoy better graphics...
Indeed! Agree totally. I played H.A.W.X. recently and even though it had a similar storyline (i.e. flying for a PMC in the future) you couldn't get the management or the interaction with characters so it wasn't as good - amazing how good the gameplay is with the older games!
@idanbismut it was SO good! everytime i played a flight sim afterwards I was just thinking 'where's the cool characters and the seedy guys in the bars offering me missions and the beautiful vixens that stab me in the back?!'
the installation tries to install through drive a:\ anyone got an idea how do i emulate drive a:\ or what is the solution to this prob. will be greatly appriciated
commands: mount a for data, like mount a f:\strike,then go with a: there, install to mounted c (maybe mount c f:\sc),select soundblaster as card, anythg else is poor sound in my dosbox.i play it with 4.5 ghz cpu and x52 pro LOL
I have started to collect Origin games a couple of years ago and I recently got Strike Commander.
Wasn't easy to find but worth it.
Now I have Wing Commander Deluxe Edition, Super Wing Commander, WC1/2 pack, Privateer, WC3, WC4, WC5 (EA classic packs), Bioforge, Bad Blood, and now Strike Commander.
excellent, all good games. Ultima 7 is especially good, in my opinion remains one of the best role playing games ever made. The level of detail of the world of Britannia is amazing.
never played this game before. but alot of similarity to wing commander(s) which i played alot. not very good graphics compared to flight simulators now, but that was the best back then. good job bring back those old memories.
I ran across this game (Tactical Operations version) and my old copy of SEAL Team tonight. Since there are plenty of SC videos up and no SEAL Team ones, I threw up a quick mission. So, if you want to get all nostaligic and stuff, click my name (searches don't pull my vid up yet).
These were two of my favourite games of the early nineties, along with Jetfighter II, TFX, F-117 Nighthawk.. good times.
Tak Strike Commander to mój pierwszy oryginalny symulator, którego przeszedłem kilka razy,aż łezka w oku sie kręci na widok tych scen, to były dobre czasy i nasza młodosc ...........
would you be so kind to paste you dosbox.conf file? I can run it but the sound seems weird (missiles sounds somehow faster, and I can't put sounds/music at the same time)
The graphic look quite modern and much better than the original game...do you have something that improves the graphic? Or is this a modern remake of the original Strike Commander?
The radar guided amraams are useful for long range targets, specifically slow moving ones such as the older migs. Sidewinders, I found, can be quite effective when tailing a jet at close proximity. Saved my ass in a few missions when the cannon went dry.
Those air-to-air missiles are all fricking useless - he scores not one kill with them. Why even bother wasting money on those things - just use cannon.
First time I've ever seen ingame footage of this game. I've always wanted to have it but could never get my hands on it back then. Always made me curious how the game was like and now I know I've been missing something back in the 90's. Doesn't quite match TFX though... Thanks for sharing.
Yeah man thank, you so much!!! That was one of the gratest games I ever played. And the music was so cool compared to the shitty music in the Janes Combat Sims which came out years later. Unfortunately I cant get it running on any PC I have :(
I wish GOG would bring this out!...It was the cause of many wasted hours in my youth

This is a superb game, not a simulator tho :P
"Why did yo' want to become a MiG-29 pilot?"
"'coz I couldn't flip burgers in McDonalds"......
The AI absolutely did suck. But otherwise the maintaining crap, storyline etc etc was good. I thought Aces over Europe had better AI personally.

sindobrandnew,
See the pointy nose of enemy aircrafts! That's where enemy aircrafts are moving toward at!
Try to aim in front of that direction and location!!
If the bullets fall behind the enemy aircrafts, try to leading the shot more!!
If the bullets fall before the enemy aircrafts, try to leading the shot less!!
Remember that this is not Wing Commander or X-Wing/TIE Fighter!
There is no shield for any of the enemy aircrafts, so just shoot off 5-6 rounds would take most of them down!!
