"A People's History of the United States" was a pretty important piece of work. The actual weak points were Zinn inserted his own thoughts in and engaged in the useless capitalism vs. socialism arguments, which real economists don't even engage in.

I met and actually liked Zinn. For the brief time I encountered him he seemed quite humble and kind hearted. I am sorry that he passed away. In all candor, I have great respect for David Horowitz, though I did think he was a tad tough on Zinn. There was a time when I respected (TPHOTUS). A time before serious rigorous research and study forced me to face the fact that, though engaging, it's very very poor history. I came to that rock solid conclusion kicking and screaming every inch of the way.
The best analysis I've ever read of Zinn's People's History was from the leftist publication Dissent Magazine. Just google "Dissent Howard Zinn's History Lessons" and read what the brilliant Michael Kazin wrote.

From my experience and understanding of Hollywood, it is all about eliciting emotions. That's what makes it work...how you sell it. Americans need to go to the trouble to educate themselves. Todays textbooks are written from a politically correct/liberal/global/America is bad/all countries and religions are equal and wonderful viewpoint.
Most (not ALL) actors in Hollywood aren't very bright or they are damaged in some way. Look at what they buy into and support. Many basically stopped educating themselves as soon as they got work and took up the typical liberal causes without much thought. If they want to get along with the people that give them work, they generally, through political osmosis, pick up a radical mindset.
Look at much of the Hollywood lifestyle that they promote to the rest of America and the world: drugs, alcohol, hooking up and unfaithful marriages, anorexia, bulimia, sexual confusion, having and adopting children as though it's a competition rather than about being and staying a family, with all the work that involves. If so you obviously haven't read the book this is based on "The People's History of the United States.." And if you do any sort of research on the actors that played people's parts it's because they wanted to.. Matt Damon has been trying to fund a movie based on Zinn's book for quite some time now (early 90's) and I hope they finally get it done.. You should at least read the book..

He can bring up some interesting things, but he has a habit of presenting history and then manipulating it unitl it suits his intellectual ego. Not that he's the only writer guilty of this. Zinn makes an important point in this show. No President or person of power has ever brought real change unless under the power of the people. Lincoln and FDR both pretty widely seen as heroes only acted because of pressure the common man.

"A People's History of the United States" was a pretty important piece of work. The actual weak points were Zinn inserted his own thoughts in and engaged in the useless capitalism vs. socialism arguments, which real economists don't even engage in.

I met and actually liked Zinn. For the brief time I encountered him he seemed quite humble and kind hearted. I am sorry that he passed away. In all candor, I have great respect for David Horowitz, though I did think he was a tad tough on Zinn. There was a time when I respected (TPHOTUS). A time before serious rigorous research and study forced me to face the fact that, though engaging, it's very very poor history. I came to that rock solid conclusion kicking and screaming every inch of the way.

Go to The National Black Republican Association site and read about Black History. The NBRA Newsletters on Civil Rights and Plantation Politics are very informative! This site is researched and documented and it should give you pause about Mr. Zinns agenda.

From my experience and understanding of Hollywood, it is all about eliciting emotions. That's what makes it work...how you sell it. Americans need to go to the trouble to educate themselves. It's not as though we don't have many REAL resources, especially through the internet. Liberal publishers are generally leaving out very important elements. Todays textbooks are written from a politically correct/liberal/global/America is bad/all countries and religions are equal and wonderful viewpoint.

Most (not ALL) actors in Hollywood aren't very bright or they are damaged in some way. Look at what they buy into and support. Many basically stopped educating themselves as soon as they got work and took up the typical liberal causes without much thought. If they want to get along with the people that give them work, they generally, through political osmosis, pick up a radical mindset.

Look at much of the Hollywood lifestyle that they promote to the rest of America and the world: drugs, alcohol, hooking up and unfaithful marriages, anorexia, bulimia, sexual confusion, having and adopting children as though it's a competition rather than about being and staying a family, with all the work that involves. The kiddos are "bling" for some no doubt! Do we really trust THESE people to educate our children in our schools!

phill: I just looked up the real history of Thanksgiving and I found 3 different stories. The only thing in common was 2 of the stories blamed the Europeans for a holocaust of small pox. Another site claimed that the 1st Thanksgiving was conducted by an Indian and a Mexican in central America.
There seems to be an anti-America or a America hating trend in hollywood by the drugged up perverted liberals for some reason. Perhaps it's over the guilt they've received over their undeserved success.

ok,history and sociology lesson: capitalist free markets never stay free,because those that acquire wealth and power form affinity groups and stack the deck to keep that wealth and power,using the state,violence or whatever to do it.what we see happening in the world today is the capitalist class WTO etc.using its economic influence to control political systems and thus economic systems,round and round always in its own favor,it is not communist in sentiment at all.

No offense but I hope you're not talking about this documentary in saying "this is the voice of Hollywood.." If so you obviously haven't read the book this is based on "The People's History of the United States.." And if you do any sort of research on the actors that played people's parts it's because they wanted to.. Matt Damon has been trying to fund a movie based on Zinn's book for quite some time now (early 90's) and I hope they finally get it done.. You should at least read the book..

Damon's apart the self-righteous elite. Smart guy, but blinded by his own ego. I've never been impressed by Zinn's work. He can bring up some interesting things, but he has a habit of presenting history and then manipulating it unitl it suits his intellectual ego. Not that he's the only writer guilty of this. People who share his sentiments will obviously like his work and probably enjoy the film. I just think this will lead people in the wrong direction by not raising the proper awareness.

Zinn makes an important point in this show. No President or person of power has ever brought real change unless under the power of the people. Lincoln and FDR both pretty widely seen as heroes only acted because of pressure the common man.

I'm not sure what you mean by everything has a means to an end because i'm not sure what end you're referring to but i can name several countries around the world that oppress people so much harsher and has made it their policy to do so.
