the deepest funkiest santana band is this one with Christian songwriter and singer and supreme keybioad stylist Leon Patillo - this pairing of bandleader and front man should have lasted longer than two years. At 3 40 shrieve brings the east bay accent & the most spine-tingling trail I've ever heard ensues - at a show they mgiht have played this for minutes, and only gone to place of groove more profound. Here's the psychedlea, the transcendence, that even Mclaughlin S Greenwich could not offer
The first time I saw Santana I was 16 yrs old; it was Sept. 1969; and I just got married that morning! Santana was the opening band for Sly and the Family Stone. All I can say is Santana blew Sly Stone out of the water! They were truly amazing and I'm lucky to have seen them play many times! (The marriage lasted a year..LOL) Oh yah, I'm lucky to have seen Jimi Hendrix 2 x's,.. Love all the oldies!
I've said before that Santana just keeps gettin' better and I ain't wrong. I haven't listened to his new stuff, in fact the last song I heard was 'Hold On'. This is the first of his newer music that I've heard, and it's great. Carlos, don't stop recordin'?
@stalkingwolf1954 You why this "new stuff" sounds so good? It was first new in 1974. lol. It's a great song and great playing......................probably why it sounds so fresh today.
@cs868 Music has no age- it just is. Whether it was 100 years ago, 100 days or yesterday, the quality that goes into the music is what is captivating and ageless, timeless. I tend to listen to "older" music myself and it stays as fresh today as it did when released/written.
@KATBDrummerOfficial yea okay but im sure someone has chopped this record over time, but u think you can make a beat from the classic "MIRAGE" or something
This is my favourite song. This is the best track i have ever heard in my life. This track strokes my demons and speaks to my soul. I am just a mirage.
This is one of Santan's greatest hits of all times and my favorite... You can really loose yourself in this one, think back to when times weren't as crazy and a bit more relaxed. They knew what music was all about. You didn't have to scream to make music it just flowed. Yah!
@pumpkintop79 Man...you couldn't have said it any better, my friend. It just makes me think about how cool it would have been to be alive back then.Think I was born about 30years too late.I listen to this song on the lonly beaches I find in Indo, where it almost feels like being transported back in time and I just pretend.I pretend that world of problems out there just doesn't exist. That things are cool and easy. It's a beautiful track and I love to lose myself in it.Good call!!!
@Prophit02 you're missing the essence of the melody. This was world music back in the early 70's. Tom Coster is a great musician and the melody is suggestive to the regions where you would associate a mirage from.
Carlos was the first concert I ever went to. It was 1970. It was Baltimore, MD USA. I am a Black Man. Carlos is My Brother. This album is part of the space time continuum. I am just a mirage.
Not into weed or any drugs anymore although I was really tempted to try loads of different drugs at one stage. Weed, shrooms, acid, DMT. No reason why others should not experiment though. Just saying it wasn't for me, curiousity is natural.
I spend all my money on high grade weed. I like staring into space, confusion and an urge to eat sugar puffs. its not much, but its a hobby. Thumb this bad boy up if you enjoy thumbing things up because some random stoner asks you too.
only a couple of artists from the woodstock concert that are still around nowadays making music..successfully that is...are we forgetting like 10 years ago when he had like 4-5 new tunes on the radio? i would say he is pretty damn popular still, but not this music here....im a music fan and guitarist and i just discovered this not long ago....its part of its charm i think..but there are some serious grooves on this album
i was just thinking the same thing, im 35, been a santana fan for atleast 18 years, and this is my first time hearing this song...one my favs now. It suck s that he's not more mainstream. i wonder why....is it becasuse hes mex?
@extremefightingtv Some of Santanas works are quite well known but I agree that jewels like these aren't. And no, its not because he was born in mexico. It's because in todays music business shit sells and Santana is the opposite of that.
I have to admit to liking this track. Santana had created their own brand of Latin Rock, and then moved on to Jazz Fusion with the albums 'Carvanserai' and 'Welcome' , but in 1974 they seemed to veer towards with Soul with the Barboleta album which features this track. Santana at the time were incredibly creative and seemed to be able to recognise the best music in many genres.
@DoctorSess I was listening to this song today, for like the first time in about six years (just got a laptop so...) and I was thinking the exact same thing! I could totally see a really talented hip hop artist like Mos Def or someone rhyming over the opening beat (:14-:50) and using the chorus' beat as the bridge. Talented would be the key. And don't crucify me people; I'm a HUGE Santana fan! He's been one of my favorites for a good twenty years....
@jafrocubic See that's what I say man...the concept of musical genre is so fluid. Many different styles could blend easily into another and create a totally unique musical bricollage. Mos Def would be perfect at the beginning...his rhyme style and cadence would complement this greatly.
this kind of reminds me of sonic for some strange reason i think sonic adventure battle 2 or some other sonic games to but yeah it kind reminds me of sonic
dude ur the first person who thought wat i thought cuz wen i heard this song it reminded me of sonic too...the one from dreamcast....dude ur a mind reader haha
I've been a big time santana fan for a long time...im 34, and I can't believe it took me all this time to know that this song existed...thank you youtube.
Thanks Lamont for this beautiful song!! Life is like a mirage..what you see is not what it is... A friend of mine loved this song very much, but he got addicted to drugs and died. So every time I hear the songs of Barboleta they remind me of him.
Your totally wrong. Those who take for example marijuana when listening music, don't use it to make music sound good. They like the music, but take marijuana to make it sound even better. Of course you don't believe me because you haven't tried it, I suppose. But don't be so narrow-minded.
@Aivopiirakka that's so very true, but the price is so, so high!!!!!!! early fatigue, absence of memory and concentration, nervous and mind breakdown, schizophrenia and suicidal tendencies
@Aivopiirakka there's a saying where I come from that goes like this "fia-te na Virgem e não corras, não!" into english freely translated is something like "you relied yourself in the Hole Virgin and don't start running right now if you want to know what is good for you!!!!" :D but I think when we talk about your life, you are the one who knows best!!!! everything good for you is my sincere wishes!!! take care!!!
@wiggalama he in no way contradicted himself, lol evidently you shouldn't be using words you don't understand the meanings of, his statement is correct, the music's good, but some hash makes it even better ;)
@Aivopiirakka And it never hurts to have scientific proof. The reason cannibus makes music and everything else better is because its a "psycho-active" Meaning that it turns your brains activity way up. a brain scan of a
"thc brain" is working 2 to 3 times more efficiently than a sober brain. plus no drug from acid to thc would even work if our brains didnt have the proper stimuli to accept those certain chemicals. thc is a seratonin alternative which your brain already makes.
@DREZ33 i love superstitious opinions taken from other people in the first place with no research. there always hilarious. and wrong. you figure that in the thousands of years of thc use, if there was anything negative about it they would have stopped. hmmmm...

@Aivopiirakka that's so very true, but the price is so, so high!!!!!!! early fatigue, absence of memory and concentration, nervous and mind breakdown, schizophrenia and suicidal tendencies

@zedamasio You, my friend, clearly are a victim of marijuana propaganda. Although I can clearly see that shit coming when you do nothing but smoke.

@DREZ33 i love superstitious opinions taken from other people in the first place with no research. there always hilarious. and wrong. you figure that in the thousands of years of thc use, if there was anything negative about it they would have stopped. hmmmm...
