Lembro demais do Twin e minha amiga Cida, dos meus vinte e seis anos em São Bernardo do Campo. Acalentou minhas noites e amores. Cat Stevens para sempre!
Thanks for the info SamBob. I just remember the interview given shortly after the Pan Am bombing over Scotland. I think my info was what was being circulated at the time. I just assumed it was correct.
He was asked the very pointed question, "Should a devout Muslim do as the ayatolla Khomeni says, and kill?" He answered, "You should follow your ayatolla's teachings, and if he says one should die, it is in the hands of God". The rest of the statement NOT broadcast, was that "true Islam is a religion of peace, and not to kill except in time of war." (He was half British, and half Arab, from what country, I do not know. He was raised in the UK.) I remember the interview by 60 minutes. One sided!
@piper54alpha Steven Demetre Georgiou was born in London to a Greek Cypriot father and a Swedish mother. Neither parent was either British or Arab by birth. His father was a Greek Orthodox (Christian), while his mother was a Lutheran (Christian). He attended a Catholic (Christian) school. He embraced Islam after a long search for spiritual truth.
@AllStarBugler Cat Stevens was famous for not paying musicians, and he used women like you cannot imagine, with promises of marriage and family, though you never know about the "woman scorned" stories. I do know that the AFM, which I am a long time member, (Musician's Union) put out a nasty-gram on him way back when, for not paying side men.
This HYMN was an adaptation written in 1938 by Elenor Farjeon intended for the Sunday School program in a church in England. It is an adaptation of a Medieval HYMN. Cat Stevens liner notes are not the definitive source for any people who wish to deny the original words or context of this HYMN. It is wonderful that this hymn was introduced to a wider audience by Cat Stevens even though he did not write the words or music. It is played according to the original composition.
we had to sing this in school. instead of "fresh from the world" we had to sing "fresh from the lord" being the atheist I am I got into an argument with my teacher, brought in the CD and I got it changed YAY! (I was only 9 at the time)

That's Rick Wakeman playing the piano. He also wrote the arrangement and Cat stiffed him for a paycheck.
