He was still good for 500-600 homers steroid-free. He didn't do any steroids until 1999 and he already had 400 clean ones to his credit. His final years from 2005-2007 were most likely steroid free because he was out with an injury that steroids would have healed you from. He was still a good player, even if he may not have earned all 762 of them. Stop fixating on one small part of his career, you're ignoring the rest of his career. And it was a good one.

I weighed 140lbs at age of 21... I'm now 31 and I now weigh 195lbs standing at only 5'9 with muscles. It's not impossible to put on that much muscle mass or weight if you train hard enough.. I compared the photo of Mark McGuire and Bonds and you can separate the 2 can tell that McGuire was really juicing. You can the veins and he was bigger than bonds. First of all id like to start by saying I don't give two shits about baseball, Secondly taking steroids doesn't mean you can just sit on the couch and when its time to bat you can smash home runs all day, whether he took steroids or not he had to work his ass off to get to where he got. With that being said it is highly possible to achieve the amount of mass he has accumulated over his career with a good diet and hard training, both of which im sure he had.
Well, if you do aerobic sports, it makes it less likely that you can bulk up and train at the same time, because you will be burning a lot of the muscle, and there's probably some threshold beyond which you can't get more muscular. Like, for example, do you think any amount of gym work would get Phelps as muscular as Bonds? That's where the drugs come in, I guess, enabling abnormal muscle growth.
'Hard training' alone does not make a superman, I'm afraid.

Phelps, whos sport is mostly cardio based, needs to eat 15k calories or more a day, if he was able to maintain a caloric surplus and lift weights he would indeed pack on more muscle, however i doubt it would be beneficial for him. Bonds on the other hand would be training more for strength, so would need far less calories. Lifting heavy weights + caloric surplus = muscle growth. Genetics and hormones play a roll too, tho..
Agree with the point about Bonds and strength, and genetics and hormones, don't agree with the rest. Your body's not a machine that can take in as many products as you want and process them all - it has limits as to how much it can metabolise in a given time period. E.g. your liver will likely fail if you take in too many proteins. Re genetics - the point is, most people will never bulk up as much as Bonds no matter how much they train, and if they do, it takes maaaany years.

To sheegan - Bonds' lifetime batting average before his steroid use was in the mid .280s. This is the guy who had more natural talent at the plate - and the greatest batting eye? With hitters around with averages 20 to 50 points higher, you sound like a joke, and a bad one at that, and he had a weak throwing arm. Two minuses - he hardly had it all. Not a Mays, DiMaggio, Mantle, Clemente, & Aaron. These guys had at least four of the five crucial skills for a truly great player - Bonds' had three.

I weighed 140lbs at age of 21... I'm now 31 and I now weigh 195lbs standing at only 5'9 with muscles. It's not impossible to put on that much muscle mass or weight if you train hard enough.. I compared the photo of Mark McGuire and Bonds and you can separate the 2 can tell that McGuire was really juicing. You can the veins and he was bigger than bonds. If Bonds was really using steroid shouldn't he be starting to deteriorate between age 38-40?

First of all id like to start by saying I don't give two shits about baseball, Secondly taking steroids doesn't mean you can just sit on the couch and when its time to bat you can smash home runs all day, whether he took steroids or not he had to work his ass off to get to where he got. With that being said it is highly possible to achieve the amount of mass he has accumulated over his career with a good diet and hard training, both of which im sure he had.

Well, if you do aerobic sports, it makes it less likely that you can bulk up and train at the same time, because you will be burning a lot of the muscle, and there's probably some threshold beyond which you can't get more muscular. Like, for example, do you think any amount of gym work would get Phelps as muscular as Bonds? That's where the drugs come in, I guess, enabling abnormal muscle growth.
'Hard training' alone does not make a superman, I'm afraid.

Phelps, whos sport is mostly cardio based, needs to eat 15k calories or more a day, if he was able to maintain a caloric surplus and lift weights he would indeed pack on more muscle, however i doubt it would be beneficial for him. Bonds on the other hand would be training more for strength, so would need far less calories. Lifting heavy weights + caloric surplus = muscle growth. Genetics and hormones play a roll too, tho..

Agree with the point about Bonds and strength, and genetics and hormones, don't agree with the rest. Your body's not a machine that can take in as many products as you want and process them all - it has limits as to how much it can metabolise in a given time period. E.g. your liver will likely fail if you take in too many proteins. Re genetics - the point is, most people will never bulk up as much as Bonds no matter how much they train, and if they do, it takes maaaany years.

@HandShattered You would be surprised at what the body can process, look at bodybuilders for example (i'm personally a power-lifter) they take in about 10-15k calories a day, 500+ grams of protein (40-40-20 macros) .. now i realize they are on steroids. Basically what im trying to say is that bonds has access to the best trainers, equipment and nutritionists so what he has achieved is not IMPOSSIBLE.. 6'2'' 230 pretty lean is very possible natty..
