Let me tell you people that we found a new way, and we tired of the same old story about the good, the bad and the poor. Basically its Rocking Down angels from The Promised Land above. Bet the powers that be aren't ready for that, and they got some heavy dues to pay. Hope the people understand where its at. IN the mean time, I'll keep my eyes on the prize.
I remember listening to this song with a pair of giant headphones on my brother's stereo when I was a kid! Awesome song! Keep on Rockin' everybody! :-)
OMFG! i love this song! never knew the name or the band. i was just randomly going thru steve miller band songs and came across this one. I'M SO HAPPY RITE NOW =D
omg I know I'm only 17 but I grew up on this kind of music. I loved listening to this song when I was younger. I cant believe I still know this song word by word. My parents always had me dancing and singing this songs when I was younger ^_^
When this song came out, the synthesizer sounds were still pretty unusual. All we had had were organs & Fender Rhodes pianos, until the Moody Blues popularized the Mellotron. Then the Moog Synthesizer came out & Emerson, Lake & Palmer were tops with that. They were still mostly monophonic, & I'm not sure if that was still the case, but I think they fit extremely well & it's my most favorite part.
You're right! The synthesizer was still a relatively new and fresh sounding instrument when this album came out. It was the Minimoog's main competition, a synth called the ARP Odyssey, which was used on this song as well as some of the other songs on this album. Steve says he also used a "really cheap Roland synthesizer" on this album as well.
This reminds me of 70's california....volkswagen bus, surf board on top, a guy with shaggy brown hair and pukka shell necklace on, having a blast at the beach with his friends and girlfriend. ahhh the good ol' days....which i was never around for. :[

I remember one of my friends saying "I bet you $100 that you can't find a non-live version of Swingtown by Steve Miller Band." Well, i'm $100 richer.

@jackienlinda ugh, that is the most annoying part of this song. it's a synthesizer, nothing really special.

I love the song up to when the solo stops then it gets kinda weird... there should have been another verse instead of synthesizer sounds

@lvl99nooob i completely disagree. the ending wraps up the entire song flawlessly, it's fantastically beautiful.
