Hey, does anyone know the difference between a small mask and a medium mask? I don't think my head is too big, but I'm a little worried it might not work correctly. My hat size is 7 1/2, by the way.

I'd probably pay the 250$ for an M40 on armygasmasks. Just seems more reliable. Yeah, you can get some good deals on ebay, but it's always a gamble... If you want the whole setup, just pay the extra cash :D

@elperrob0rracho If the seal is broken you will need a new mask. Repairing it is not good because that is exactly what is, a repair and there is a chance of not repairing it correctly. Any mask will work as long as it takes 40mm filters. Stay away from the Russian mask with the skinny filters.

@bobandjoeloveJB I would stay away from the old surplus Russian mask's, because the filters are old and can poison you. If you want something good but cheap get an Israeli gas mask. Just make sure you update it with a brand new current issue NBC filter.

i got mine for $150 off ebay with all the attachments(black lenses, clear lenses, second skin, 2 filters, the thingy that covers your head, gloves etc.) this was a couple of years ago, though. now you can only find toys of the mask.

@PinoyPogiman I never said 600mm to 40mm. I did say they make them in 60mm and 40mm but get 40mm because it is the standard size. If you get 60mm you should buy a reducer for it.

the adapter is typically(like you said) for 60mm filter port masks like the finnish M61, C-3, C-4, M9, etc

but in the future, this mask will turn into surplus stock becuase of the issue of the new M50 masks for the usarmy

In the two months that went past before you posted your vid, the US Army already fielded the M53, and that was after it fielded the M45 ( in 1998 ).

Thus nothing is current with the M40, except for training purposes in the wash out phase.

They are bad 17 year old surplus, nothing but that.

@Member0420 It's still tactical looking like something out of a future sci-fi movie. But the M40 and MSA Millennium still look better, and they use 40mm NATO standard filters that are better for joint operations instead of the bayonet-style specific filters.

The M50 looks just like a respirator you can buy at Home Depot with goggles attached to it.

@afukinemu, just as a warning, C2 filters are long since expired (and past their usuful ness after experiation, a 10-15 year period)...and are toxic (chromium breaks down) so if you can try to get a newer C2A1 filter, newer and better...they will also turn toxic though after a 10-12 yr. period after expiration.....this is just as a warning to all collectors who have not been informed

careful with those filters, if they're more than 10 years old they can be very harmful. check by looking at the black writing on the box. there should be a number like RFT 93000CF24054, the first two numbers indicate the year it was made so the number i gave above would have been made in 1993 so it will be harmful.

you dont need an adapter, modern usgi canteens have the nbc fitting built into the cap and the end thats on the mask mates up with it, push the end on the mask into the fitting on the canteen cap and presto ready to test how hard you can suck, its rather hard to draw water thru.

The M40 suck, I was in 2nd FAST Company in the Marine Corps and we got rid of the M40s for masks with wider field of vision (we had two different masks and I cant remember what they were called) because the two little eye holes of the M40 limits your field of vision and they fog up like mad, its also alot harder to breath in them so I was highly disappointed when I transfered over to the Army and was issued an M40 again....if the military uses it, it probably sucks, lowest bidder gear

Yeah someone told me it is current issue but my buddy in the Navy told me the new ones are full face window. But he also told me that tey still sell that one because it still is being used and thats why they are still going for200 to 300 dollars.

Just The Air force uses the full face ones "MCU 2/p" although the mask "design" is 20 years old (they were phased in the early 1990's after the first gulf war) the mask still is military issue so don't worry, btw go to ebay for the C2A1 filters they are cheaper

Thats cool. If you want buy some cheap out of date filter for just for looks incase you want to put one on it then buy a new filter like the one I have and leave it sealed. When you need it, it will be fully functional and is fast and easy to install.

I got 2 G.M.'s too, m10 military grade. Just wondering if you're familiar with them. Mine didn't come with instructions, but I know how to screw on the filters, but there is a strange knob, N10 on it, almost looks like a mouth piece or somethin.

Well I know inside it should have a drinking tube. As for a mouth piece I looked but couldn't find any information on it and I looked at some real detailed photos of the N10. Maybe take it to a army surplus store and see what they think or the company you bought it from. Good Luck..Stay Safe.
