4:35 - 4:45 There all you know it all's XD <---- a Ludwig Speed king Single pedal with Nicko performing Slide Tech. Now can you all stop arguing and give some respect to Tuscopa for the Video and Nicko Mcbrain
OK listen everyone who thinks nicko uses a double bass drum here are some facts you may not know
1. In this video used a "Ludwig Speed King" and one that does not come in a double bass form
2. Nicko has an immensly fast single foot and he emplies teqnuiqes such as Heel Toe and slide Teqnuiqes if you havent heard of them and if you so called "Know It All Drummers" think he uses a double bass pedal you a Retarded
3. Nicko clearly states in an interview that " I never use a double bass pedal"
His Bass drum sounds like it's tuned higher than some of his floors toms. The head must need to be really tight to get that foot working so fast. I learn't many a thing from this video back in the day. Still can't play half of them though The mans a one off.
thats the way to do it fuck double bass a true drummer uses one pedal and learns to acquire speed and pattern and then you can get some badass sounds from the bass its fun i have a good time with it fuck double bass
He is not using a double bass pedal. He tried it once (back in the 80s) but he didn´t like it. There´s an interview from Dickinson, where he talks about Nicko, when he joined the band, when he laid down the groove for Where Eagles Dare, where he says Nicko is a one bass pedal kind of drummer. Old school:). I do believe it is on the first years maiden DVD.
@Forgotten1333 Where I got my information? "There´s an interview from Dickinson"...I do believe it is on the Number Of The Beast Classic albuns DVD from them. Dickinson refers as why Nicko does NOT like or USE double bass pedals. He used it for some small stuff back then(mid 80´s). But he is not using it on this video. Only single bass pedal with double bass rhythms added to it. And don´t worry about my hearing problems. I´m fine as it is.
@Forgotten1333 Oh! And even though not being a drummer I do know Nicko uses a technique called heel and toe to achieve those double bass sounds. Research a bit and you´ll find info about it.
@Tuscopa I am a drummer too, works in SoundStudio, I hear Fucking double bassdrum and my spectrum-analyzer gives me peaks fucking mister I known better!
I have seen m play in his NickoMcBrain-Sessions playing double fucking bassdrum on tracks from Maiden asshole
@Forgotten1333 I don´t know what was the part you did not understand in: "He used it for some small stuff back then"...He may still use it today, if he likes so. I don´t care if he does! But the main idea you get from what you see, read and listen in interviews is Nicko does NOT like to use double bass pedals. But the talk ywith you sir is finished. I do not like to talk to people who can´t help to put a cursing word in every sentence. Have a nice day.
@Forgotten1333 Im a drummer to but i can do them they are not double bass pedals he just has a fast foot it is ether heel toe or slide + he has one of the fastest feet ever ! so not being offencive but i think you should Educate your self more before jumping to conclusions XD
@Gunnershaun1380 Finally, once again I find people who happen to research a bit before talking. lol. I´m no drummer but I also know something about some techniques, as you said, that Nicko employs in his own playing. Like the heal and toe thing. The idea is to search info about the subjects. Something some people do not do, and, what is worse, criticize and call names to others whithout them even being rude,,, jeezz.. See you around.
@DROID420 no, double bass is a cool thing. but only when it's not abused only for speed. look at virgil donati and thomas lang. these guys are doing not only fast but also very interesting grooves and notes with the double pedal... but they rule with one foot as well.
this is true one of the onle double bass players i can respect for it is dave lombardo and me my self i perfer single bas and i follow nickos technique and ill tell ya that technique does wonders for you it builds up ur stamina and ur foot just glides its feels great and you can do all theese crazy patterns and shit its fun
We don't care of what you thing plus that's a video of Nicko Mcbrain so you should comment about him nor Carter...Well..Carter is great...but different style...Mc Brain is a god at what he does...
@ArclosWolfFang Nicko said that he's the most good looking in the band so they put him behind a big kit so the audience doesn't get distracted. Pretty funny guy.
ah man, if you put an add somewhere, dont say "Looking for metal drummer" these days its gonna be easier to find a drummer with a single pedal sayin "Looking for Rock and Roll drummer"
@fyrapan I know. I love playing single bass because it takes so much more work. And once you get really good with single bass you can do ALOT more when you step up to double bass.
his solo are not that melodic,i mean,if someone who doesnt know shit about drums is listening to this he'll say: what a crap... but things he does are amazing, and if you know something about drums than you know you will never be able to do things you see on this vid...
i can relate. i LOVE ironmaiden.. but i would rather watch clive burr's solo than nicko. and i really like nicko! clives solo's are short, fast and they enjoy me.
If you're thinking about Ghost of the Navigator or Face in the Sand, then you're wrong. He uses the heel-toe technique. I've read interviews where he says that he never has or will use double bass.
The thing is that i think he dosent even use heel-toe. When you look at his live drumming you can see that the reason he gets so fast is that he has the best foot dexterity i have seen in a drummer, but i think he does it all with the front of his foot.
Yeah, you're probably right. I assumed he used heel-toe because I didn't think it was possible to go that fast with just the front of your foot. He should get more credit for it, really.
As I know, Face in the sand is an exception: he admitted using double bass during this song in an interview for stamina reasons. FitS wasn't on tour's setlist because of that: they didn't want to carry additional equipment just for a song.
I think 3 minutes of constant blasting with one foot would be too much even for McBrain, although his a pro one-pedal-drummer.
P.S. McBrain and Portnoy are my favourite drummers. :-)
boring??? I dont know but if u swear by guys like derek rody, asheim, sandoval and lombardo or even portnoy then know that this guy is their idol! mc brain is just another league, hes not a death metal drummer but hes doing a laperfect what hes supposed to do...
To be excactly Nicko McBrain is an so called old School drummer. Why is that?Lots of awesome triplets lots of tom fills single bass pedal. He studied fusion and jazz.He has mixed a taste of classic rock grooves fills and tastes with classic jazz playing. He holds the left stick upside down so that he can take deeper and stronger sound than from the tip.I can continue till next morning talking but whats the point. The video talking from its self(His style today is a lot changed.Much more mature.)
@anahowana he also is truly inspiration for very confident, free and acoustic playing. it's very rare that drummer plays very intelligent and has great acoustic sound the same time! not triggers, double-bass galloping or blast-beats! just pure rhythm and freedom. he's like Bonham of heavy metal :)
