  • One of his greatest songs in my opinion. He may have died, but his music never gets old.

  • No one cares about The Beatles. You can stop attributing the goodness of Elliott Smith to The Beatles.

  • @PwnZoneification Knowing he idolized Lennon and the Beatles it's obvious to make connections as he was infuenced, obviously very different but influnced none the less and people are just picking it up that's all!

  • If you get a feeling.... - goosebumps

  • This songs chord structure goes a step down when the slide solo starts. Never heard a song do that before. He did it very well. Brilliant.

  • just discovered him this year and he's the only artist i can honestly say i feel "gets me".

  • Damn I really miss this guy. RIP Elliott.

  • This one makes me cry.

  • who accidentally hit the dislike button?

  • 1 dislike? no no no

  • Had she lived, or if the timing had been different, I would have loved to hear Karen Carpenter cover this song; it completely suits her vocal style.

  • @GrigoriSom

Sixth (6th) Worst Idea of All-Time.

    Congratulations.

  • @supergayzebra Thanks, "Super Gay Zebra"; glad you enjoyed it. Elliott's songs, despite what you and others may think, are very open to being reinterpreted, and I'm willing to bet ES loved her voice. You don't have to be a Carpenters fan - and I'm most definitely NOT a fan - but her voice was extraordinary, and she could have done this song proud.

Again, thanks for the comment. BTW, your name? Second (2nd) worst idea, just beaten out by your decision to respond.

  • i got pictures, i just don't fell it anymore .. so beautiful lyrics:'(

  • @mehdinadif

The line is, "I just don't see it anymore", not "feel it anymore." But, you didn't even use the word "feel", but instead, "fell." Were you even listening to the song, of were you making up your own lyrics?

  • driven to tears every time...

  • i just have something to say.....EVRY SINGLE SONG OF THIS GUY IS AWSOME

ELLIOTT YOU ARE IN MY HEART SEEYA IN HEAVEN!

  • Teddy Geiger sent me here

  • This song of his is one that I can't listen to without becomming a bit sad, to be perfectly honest. He said whenever he talked about pictures or movies in his lyrics, he was referring to memories. In this song he says, "I got pictures, I just don't see it anymore. Climbing hour upon hour, through a total bore. With the one I keep where it never fades, etc...." So first he calls the bulk of his memories a total bore, then contrasts it to a very special one, then reaffirms resignation. Oh well ok.

  • All my love to you my sweet Elliott, today. 7 years without you...

  • @capadocciana we all miss him but he will always be the best of all time....why elliott.....

and im only 14 so i didnt even got the chance to see him live...I am willing to travel 100000 km to see you elliott but now i can only see you in heaven...oh well, okay

  • 1:11 is my sweet spot

  • juro que uma lágrima escorreu dos meus olhos.

  • Lennon would have been proud of this one.

  • Possibly my favorite Smith song. This song is genious, coming from a musician it's a stunning musical composition alone. There is definately the Beatles influence in this, but I don't think they did anything this good. I not only hear the Lennon in most of Smith's later work, especially the idea of doubling vocal tracks, as well as piano. But have any of you noticed the similar in the drumming on Lennon's post Beatles career and that of Elliott's? He definately studied the masters closely

  • @steamvessel Absolutely. And a lot of George Harrison-like guitar fills, too. Very evident in "No Life" and others. As a musician though, I don't think it's always a conscious thing. It's like learning to talk when you're a baby or something. You don't ever decide to take on your parents' intonations and accents, but it happens naturally anyway lol.

  • I hate how the big money always chases talent and begs. Like in the adverts that pop up when you try to enjoy non-corps like Elliott.

  • This music was meant to come out 50-60 years ago. It's absolutely brilliant. Not for this time in music. Pure genius.

  • the safety of a pitch black mind. If you've been there you know. O Blah Duh, Bra.

  • Good point. That sitar solo captures the harrowing nature of that exact place. Well-said.

  • yeah not a big beatles fan-but love Elliott Smith-so thank you Beatles :)

  • The Beatles havn't got as much substance as this particular song!

    Genius!

  • Elliott was a big Beatles fan. He seems to have taken some advice from The Beatles to make these beautiful fragile songs: "Take these broken wings & learn to fly" from The White album's "Blackbird".

There's substance for you. This has "The Beatles White Album" written all over it & it never gets more substantial than the Beatles white album. Everyone really needs to (re)discover The White Album.

  • the intensity of the final section from 1:52 on gets me every time. He meant it. Very Lennon piano.

  • @jenkofo I agree. Damn you are right.

  • i absolutely adore this song

  • i love this song so much. <3

  • XO as a whole, but this song in particular, is where the obvious Beatles influence comes out.

    Beautiful record, his best imo.

  • I was just thinking that about the Beatles, so funny!
