I imagine there has to be more than just After Effects - meaning there certainly is some illustration and animation, most likely video as well... it's not just straight up moving type. This is a piece of art. I quote the great Greyscale Gorilla who called this "The ORIGINAL see and say type video. They fucking invented this shit and nobody has come close to doing it better." Yes, it is in AfterEffects. I played a little with the same tool but its a lot of work. It's a great program though.

AfterEffects is very user friendly. It is a lot of work but it is fun and easy to learn if you like it. Thinking up good animations and concepts is the hard part.
