Yes its the user right to choice what his security and try to dont be scammed also. That why now some anti virus compagny make free anti virus for help us to fight this crime. Antivirus and antimalware programs can help along with the web of trust addon where rogues are quickly rated as dangerous when found. There are plenty of good quality, free programs for all users to allow them to surf safer :-)
Agent349 - As technology advances so do the criminals methods, so protective measures are important, but the end user must be at ease with what they are using and common sense must prevail too.
It's always a pleasure to have discussions and take on board different points of view :-)
Yeah i know. But i think you dont need 160 security programs like site advisor or anti malware.... Avast! + SAS or MBAM + 2 ways Firewall like Vista one or other 2 ways Firewall. This would be fair. Like Microsoft they said its will run your pc slower if you got like 170 things to protect your pc. So yeah Avast! is still really great to detect something.
Agent349 - Programs need to be kept to a minimum to maintain performance, but there is no 'one size fits all' so what works for you may not work on another machine as each is configured differently. I have to take this into account and provide users with available choices and they can then decide what works for them and what they are comfortable using :-)
That what i said but with Anti Spyware. I didnt think you will like to get spy by a spyware.... Also Anti Virus like Avast! got a lot protection again malware.
Agent349 - Avast has many features, but a firewall is still needed unless behind a hardware firewall and applications such as malwarebytes and superantispyware will remove the malware that antivirus applications don't pick up, and that can be quite a lot. through drive-by downloads etc. that AV's do not pick up on :-)
More than one AV can cause disastrous results, not only with false positives but also as you say it can mess files up and even cause computers to crash.
sexybrox - No problem...one thing though...it is a BAD idea to have 2 antivirus programs installed as they will conflict with each other and also give false positive readings.
I personally would uninstall AVG and keep Avast :)
darkmastachief - Conflict means that if you have more than ONE antivirus running they will lead to false positive readings as their definition files vary.
Only ever use ONE realtime AV and use online scanners for backup scans.
n310ea - You can set both to automatically update in Program Settings > Update (Basic)and ensure both are set to Automatic, set it forget it, nice and easy :)

Sorry to be late. But a Anti Virus,Anti Spyware,Firewall is only needed for a protection like Microsoft said.

Agent349 - Using a firewall, antivirus and antimalware is essential with the amount of malware that can easily invade an unprotected PC :-)

like what do you mean conflict?

so like they will say each other are viruses lol?
darkmastachief 3 years ago
darkmastachief - No lol....but only ever have 1 antivirus installed as it can cause too many problems otherwise.
Antispyware I recommend 2 and 1 firewall unless using a router which will also have it's own firewall installed.

Is updating the virus definition file more important than updating the program, or are they both just as important?
n310ea 3 years ago
I would say the update's are more important.
