A quick Mapquest search give the names of the chemical plants in the area. I suspect, the EPA already knows who is responsible based on the plants required TRIs that government regulators can search via a database for MSDS sheets for each plant.

Something else is that they were very, very vague about the location of the nesting site. I assume that is because they either don't actually know themselves, because it was far away from civilization, and/or because the birds were from DIFFERENT nesting sites.

I've read other stories on this, and it's NOT just one type of species of bird/fish affected... there were other types of birds affected.. even ducks. they're just trying to diminish the severity of the situation. Ozark arkansas is near Oklahoma and the Arkansas river runs south from Oklahoma through Arkansas. Spill may have ocurred in Oklahoma. A quick Mapquest search give the names of the chemical plants in the area. I suspect, the EPA already knows who is responsible based on the plants required TRIs that government regulators can search via a database for MSDS sheets for each plant.

Chemical spill. Tank failure spilling into a water way. The product must have off gassed during the spill and killed a large flock of birds that flew through the plume. The reason for the distance between bird and fish kill: plume and spill into the waterway travelled different directions.
