  • Fucking great !

  • pfff you can read the text just fine. this shit is A+ all the way. Daniel Plainview = automatic A++ > 9000%

  • The only problem I see is some of the text is hard to read and follow but other than that it's great

  • No offense, but I can see this as a C+. I like the milkshake bit, but the rest is pretty subpar. The font you use is hard to read and blends in with the background. The background itself is way to dark. The kinetic movement of the text is decent in the beginning, but combined with being hard to read, and much too small or too big at times.

  • @Thalymor very well put - I agree full heartedly as an animator student myself.

  • a fucking C+!!!! your teacher is a moron. That was great!!!

  • DRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGE

  • Awesome movie!

  • i like milkshakes now :)

  • Not a fan of the fonts...Blackadder ITC is for wannabe pirates and the main font you used doesn't fit the mood, in my opinion, but

  • 37 people have no more milkshakes lol

  • I really like the idea buy the typography you use isnt quite good, its hard to read it. I know that is the same or similar to the movie typography, but when the words move to fast, as i said, its hard to read. Anyways, an excelent idea!

  • Maybe your professor never saw the movie, and he actually thought it was about milkshakes. Maybe your professor is 1 of the 37 dislikes.

  • YYYEEEEEEEEESSS! I love you, whoever made this.

  • 37 people had their milkshakes drank by Daniel Plainview.

  • font choices are bad to be honest. some are unreadable. some transition is too fast. yes you have some decent technique but sorry to say this, all the comments claiming this is to be a SUPERB work is being over exaggerating. hate me for being an asshole for saying that. but i am a designer myself, and i do motion graphics too. i agree to what @drunkenmunkistyle said

  • he had pretty good ideas but some choice of font was off. a c is about right. remember people this is about typography and animation not just animation.

  • How long did it take you to make this? It looks incredible. This is real art. Your teacher should be fired.

  • Someone really likes milkshaaaaaaaaaaakes...

  • Comment removed

  • Yeah, its the blurry gradients and the REALLY bad font choice. It could've been easily avoided. But C is pretty strict.

  • don't use all caps with blackletter typefaces. looks like shit

  • To fucking close. If you had down sized it a bit you would have gotten a A-B

  • AHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • DRAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGEEEEEEEEE

  • I'd give it a B+...

It's funny, It's original... but The font is sometimes really hard to read, and the scream at 0:06 is really awful ^^°

yeah, I could name some (really easy) improvements, but, good job! ^^

  • @Giymo11

Suck a cock, the scream rocked.

  • @Draykid Yea, but the visualization was awful...

  • @Giymo11

    I would tend to disagree.

  • welll. I'd have to say, the typeface choice isnt the best at the beginning. And gradients are rarely the best choice for typography. But really great work otherwise. definitely not c+ work... but prob b+ work.

  • I really like it, but there are some technical details, like the green gradient at the background (that's what bothers me the most), the mix between a serif-gothic font with a simple sans-serif font and also the fact that some words are too small that's hard to read them. But again, they're tecnical details, I really enjoyed it!

  • this is a great piece;

as for the grade, I do not know what class 'media arts 10' is, but if it were a design course I could comprehend the downgrading, although I still believe it should have been at least a B if not an A. But if it were any other course, I think it deserves an A.

    good work, regardless

  • Roflroflrofl!!! IIIIIII DRINK YOUR MILKSHAKE! I DRINK IT UP!!!

  • Probably wouldve been an A if it wasnt for the font

  • I. Drink. Your.... MILKSHAKE.

  • How the hell did you get anything less than an 'A' for this masterpiece? Love the movie, love your typography. Well done.

  • I eat your sandviches.

    I eat 'em up.

  • I totally get how you feel. i was working on a phlebotomy certificate (drawing blood samples for medical tests), and I had to get 100 draws to qualify. the hospital they sent me to in order to apprentice stuck me with the two biggest bitches I can think of. made every day I came in to work as bad as possible, living nightmare. and after 3 weeks and over 300 draws I took off their hands, they graded me with a C-. I'm not saying I did a perfect job, but it was more than a damn C-.

  • This video is excellent, and should have received the highest grade possible. Your teacher is obviously threatened by your work, and doesn't understand its message.

  • 33 people had their milkshake drunk by Daniel Plainview.

  • pt anderson got a c+ in NYU for a page from a script that he actually took from pulitzer prize winning writer david mamet, prompting him to drop out of nyu and make his first movie. In other words, drop out of school, it'll work for you...

  • C+?

Your professor must have had invested in Bandy's tract.

  • your teacher is a tard. that was awesome

  • I died at

    ACROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSS the room

  • The reason you didn't get a higher grade is pretty clear. It's very ugly to look at and the text is terribly difficult to read. The technical part of it was great but that just doesn't make up for the problems.

  • WORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWOWORDS

  • go back to him and tell him your art got 94,000 more views than all his combined.

  • XD

  • imagine the eff word is replaced by the pseudo-word "pudd". this would mean your fool teacher who gave you a c+ for this assignment is a "PUDDING FLYING PUDD-TARD" A+ from me (so there).

  • @__@ damn that was good milkshake!

  • nice choice of lines for your assignment, i loved this line in There will be blood! i guess it must have been your usage of Old English font, it doesnt look clear/easy to read when you only have a few seconds to look the text. using simple fonts like the ones for 'milkshake' would be better. anyway, other than that, the rest of the video is really cool, especially the 'milkshake' being sucked into the straw part. good work! ;)

  • This is...awesome, you diserve more than a c plus.

  • Legends say, there's a straw long enough to drink a milkshake from the other side of the room.

  • C+!? wtf o.O...

  • One of the better typographies I've seen.

  • Cool. :))

  • Yeah the initial gothic font is messy I think, but I am just now learning stuff like this. Where are you going to school?

  • My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard...........

  • I don't know anything about typography, but as a film fan, I would give this an A+. Love the milkshakes and how it first sucks up the color, and then the writing.

  • Everyone's done shit exactly like this already, just look at all the other more appealing typography videos in the suggested section.

There isn't much contrast in color here, and I know you're going for the tone of the movie, but really it just comes off as typeface abuse.

  • @flaksucks - You have a good point. Also, the gothic-like font you're using makes it difficult to distinguish what the word even is. But it's mainly a matter of contrast, I agree.

  • that type is tough to read. especially when its dark green over black

  • very creative. C+, that doesnt make any sense

  • Definitely A- in my book.

  • The font across the straw was plain.

The font at the start was messy.

It was hard to read when it said draaaaaaaaaain

    I think it's worth a B.

That's just me though. You know.

  • @sarzeyk Typeface.

  • I think this is great. If you got a C+, I would love to see the ones that got As.

  • was this suppose to be funny? i laughed so hard. I have seen the movie and taking this conversation out of context made the drinking of someone else's milkshake a serious matter, which makes me laugh.

  • Apparently your teacher likes milkshakes a LOT, and doesn't like it when people drink his/her milkshakes. ESPECIALLY from across the room.

  • That is sick!

  • The milkashake thing was amazing! But the first font wasn't a great choice, too dirty.

Brilliant, where is the sound from?

  • ur teacher doesnt like milkshakes? how much does he?she weigh?

  • Does your teacher have eyes? This is amazing!

  • A C+? The hell was the teacher thinking? D:

  • You definitely could have used more fonts than just the There Will Be Blood title font or whatever it's called. But that's me just nit-picking, this is well worth an A, if not an A+.

  • your teacher f*** sux

  • fucking teaches, just because they are lactose intolerant, anything concerning milk is not worthy of an A, cos its an abomination, i will drink their milkshake!

  • To bad you can't hear A SHIT

  • What the fuck? That is brilliant! Maybe you could have used more fonts?

  • What the fuck? That is brilliant!

  • I drink your MILK-SHAKE!

    xD

  • Maybe If you experimented with other fonts, different angles and stayed away from the typical layout, you could have acheived higher. Besides all that very well done, I particularely liked the bit when he said milkshake.

  • This was really well done, and a great scene in the movie, but i would have picked some easier to read fonts

  • Just proof that the arts are based on 'superior' opinion and not on subjective accomplishments. This was very well done and easily as good as anything I've seen professionally. The British accent of the actor (I haven't seen the movie) gave it a great Monty Python feel. Great work! You got an A in my book... which does surprisingly little for your GPA...

  • whoever graded you should have their milkshake drunk. from across the room.

  • @goosenooseable Moar liek from across the country IE DRAINAGE!

  • You deserved waaayyy better than a C+, dude. Seriously.

  • It could've been a better grade, if you changed the font style of the animation. I couldn't read some of it.

  • AWESOME!! Great job!

  • epic

  • love it is quite similar to firth thats what i love, make more plz

  • Not only is this better than 99% of all the kinetic type videos on YouTube, it's actually funny. Totally A+ work.

  • Oh my god! AWESOME!

  • AMAZING, but the font isn't good (the milkshake one is great, which is it?)

  • You probably got a C because some of the text was impossible to read. But it was very impressive with the animation and theme, your teacher is an idiot, you should have at least got a B-

  • AMAZING !

  • I wanna go drink someones milkshake so I can renact this.

  • That was definitely worth an A+. At the very least, you're teacher should have given you a b+. It sounds like she is somewhat of a wench. It does look like you have a promising future with such a talent.

  • what?! a C+?! Where do you go to school??

  • i agree i think you deserved much better than a c+ but i know where your coming from i made a great project in grapich arts but effed up the rubric so i got a b-

  • SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN AN A+ :D

  • if you like this typo thumb up

  • Only reason I can imagine this getting is C+ is that you ignored a fairly basic rule of typography by choosing an incredibly difficult font to read. It makes it really hard to stay with the narrative, especially since its moving along at the speed of the speaker - if it weren't for that, this is a pretty good kinetic typography vid.

  • A BASTARD IN A BASKET!!!!!!

  • Was it a C+ on the project, or in the class?

  • absolutely excellent. should of received an A

  • well all i can say is that from 0:20 sec its clearly better than a C+, but the beginning was a bit boring relating to the weak contrast and colors. and the font was horrible, maybe matches with the movie but in a kinetic typography its just too special. my opinion, no offence taken :)

  • Wow, impressive. Your teacher mustn't be a fan of the movie to give you a C+ for this marvellous work.

  • I am takng a class similar and I think it was your choice of your main font because it it kind of hard to read, other than it is good but the font plays throught the whole thing so i Can see why u got that grade would have given it a B- minus, maybe change the old fashioned font to something more readable an you would have probably gotten an A

  • "I smacked him in the face with an eraser and told him to change the grade on the paper." - Eminem.

^This. Give your teacher some of that.

  • Why do you think you only got a C+?

  • A C+??? I laughed so hard when the straw reached "ACROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSS" the room XD.

  • really good!! not a C+ for sure and i loved the milkshake part (Y)

  • I would of slaped the teacher in the back of the head and made him sit "timeout" in the hall way for the rest of the day if I only got a c+ for this.

  • I saw a bunch of these on a SCAD dvd.

  • your after effects teacher is full of shit.. and obviously does not know the program.. this my freind is genius.. pure plain and simple.. your use of typography in conjunction with the illusion of the film depicts the emotion perfectly.

  • you should have gotten an A+ for this.

  • This is good, almost definitely better then anything I could make, but you probably didn't get an A because there's 1000 other videos using movie quotes with animated typography. But clearly, you have a good set of skills, so use em to make something new!

  • Shit, I give you an A+ and a Beer for this work man, great job

  • Okay, I have no clue what the criterion were for the project, and maybe your teacher was an old coot who just plain "didn't get it," and maybe it got marked down for legitimate reasons I'm not aware of. That said, I say AT LEAST a SOLID B+!!! I had trouble reading the text at times, particularly in the beginning, due to the calligraphy and my computer speakers suck, but still, it was awesome.

  • Typography and colours could have used work, but you aced the colour scheme and the motion was pretty solid.

  • You should have gotten an A+ .

  • I could hardly keep myself from laughing, glorious.

  • efff that I'd say A+ because this is a good movie and DRRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANGE!

  • I can understand the C+. The text are unreadable and the colors don't really go together

  • A C+? This is fucking A+!

  • Beautifly done and really creative, deserves a higher grade than given.

  • XD This was amazing, at first I was like 'WHAT?! THIS ISN'T DEXTER!' and then I loved it XD

  • *claps* that was pretty excellent man, i really liked it

  • DRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAINAGEE

  • A C+? holly shit I would love to hear the teacher's reasoning to that

  • I'm no expert but I've seen plenty of typography. And this is worthy of an A in my book.

  • @mtb416 Agreed!

  • This is outstanding and is actually VERY funny how each word was accentuated. It's ludicrous you received anything less than a B.

  • I've been screaming this all day.

  • that was one of the better ones i've seen on youtube, no lie.

i'm really surprised you got a C+ on this, i would've given it at least an A-

  • This was awesome. :)

  • Whoever says they can't read the font is quite obviously blind as a bat. Good work man, I'd have given you at least a B+, maybe even an A.

  • that was cool. you should've gotten a better grade, man.

  • "drainage!!"

"my straw reaches acrooooooooooooss the room"

    I like it

  • That was awesome, with the milkshakes and all. But the font was unreadable, unfortunately, especially when it travels on the screen so fast. Could have gone with a Copperplate Gothic instead

  • Ew.

    I can't read the font.

    This was adkfjdskfhsdkfhsdkfj.

    ._.

    I would of given you a D.

  • BALLIN VID

  • I DRINK IT UP

  • Badddasss!

  • This is B+ material at the very least.

Also, IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII AM THE THIRD REVELATION!!!!

  • that would totally be something i would go on about......class

  • this is a foocking A+ to the 10000th power

  • Daniel Day-Lewis.....

  • uuh... you're not saying anything about the film. That's why you got a C =\

  • Your font is really hard to read, that's probably why you got a C, and kind of what Kanos said, the animation isn't the smoothest, it's kind of jumpy.

  • It's great, worth a B at least, but the font choice/text placement would've made the difference between A or a B.

  • atleast a B+ i thought haha :P

  • It's a great concept but some of the typography is difficult to read. That could be why you got such a low grade. Great concept with the glasses though!!!

  • wow, theres a lot of haters. this is so great

  • you got a C for this? i thought it was a great job!

  • You could have used "English Towne" (still a crappy font but not as crappy) or another old english font. If your going to use a downloaded font you should make sure it doesn't look like a downloaded font. I probly would have given you a "C".

  • harsh much?

  • it doesnt surprise me that you got a C+ you motion is fairly primitive and jagged and your typefaces conflict with each other, the beginning typeface also reminds me of papyrus which is never a good thing. The main typeface also looks like a downloaded font made by some kid dicking around in illustrator and didn't want to clean up his characters. This looks like a first draft to me or something that you threw together last minute cause you forgot it was due.

  • I agree. While it being highly entertaining, it doesn't contribute to the movie. If you're making a link to the movie, make the link either damn obvious that it's funny or hidden so that it becomes obvious when people think it over.

Also, GretschPlayer87 is right, you should choose your fonts more carefully. I'm sure you chose it because they're British voices, but you can't choose your fonts based on that only. Fonts have to say something about the emotion, dynamics and events of the subject.

  • British voices? There's no british people in this movie.

  • they aren't british man... The movie is in the western territories of the US

  • Perhaps they aren't, but they sure do sound that way. And there you have it, for someone like me who has never seen the movie, this typography should explain the situation for me even though I've never seen it.

  • ohhhhhhhh i didnt know you didnt see it, my bad man. But I've watched enough british movies to know there isnt enough slang for this to be british haha

  • he does sound a little like Sean Connery, but his accent was actually based on famed american director John Huston, who made the treasure of the sierra madre, a film that served as inspiration of the movie.

  • LOVE IT.

I know nothing of typography programs and their ways, but I love this piece. xD

  • mn. not bad, but the animation isn't very smooth.

  • haha ok so if you're not a typography expert, what room do you have to say anything??

well i would have given you a C as well. i think your use of the camera was pretty good, but you put no consideration into TYPE face, hierarchy, organization, or any of the general principles of typography. also your background gradient is ugly. but if you fixed both of those you could have a decent piece here.

  • the teacher was clearly mentally retarded- who the fuck does he/she think they are?? c+?? these are bitter bitter people and need to be stopped.

  • It was good but the only reason I would believe you didn't get a good grade was the main font you chose is difficult to read sometimes.

  • i am in now way a typography expert, but some of these comments are ludicrous and show no reasons why they think it "STINKS". I, on the other hand, think the milkshake part really animated what he was saying and i really like the "there it is" part too. it made me laugh. i do think the old english type face wasn't the best choice, even though it was used for the movie. it just didn't work with the movement. i really wanna know why your teacher gave you a C+. i think u deserved higher.

  • Typography selection is lame

  • you got lucky that your teacher passed you at all, he/she was being nice, you definitely didn't deserve an A for this. there are some good ideas and nice camera transitions here but overall the type STINKS and you NEED to take a TYPOGRAPHY class. The typography in this video is so bad it makes the whole thing very visually unappealling

  • Agreed. Though I think that's a bit harsh.

The beginning was a little bad.

the milkshake scene was the only redeeming quality, it was very well done.

  • Wow! Let's see your work then. Maybe you have it all on Vimeo, eh, Typography expert?

  • Comment removed

  • what program did you use?

and you should have gotten an A.

  • Our teacher just told us to watch this as inspiration for our design project.

So it must be good xD

  • AWESOME

  • hard to read
