@phildoethedildoe I understand that, but from all the P42DC start ups I've seen... This is the 1st time I haven't heard the equipment blowers come on after about 30 seconds of the Prime Mover being on.
@AmtrakCSXRailfan equipment blowers. They're fans and such used to cool the electronics, traction motors. Im guessing they suppose to start blowing before the engine starts up.
Amtrak GE-P42DC Engines (dash-8's in streamline fluting ) Don't have equipment blowers that come on before their Prime mover fires up. It is an Auto feature that saves all the battery power to crank the engine over, and prime the injectors and operate the Computer systems that control fuel and emissions.
@harrodsburgNSfan yup you're right!!!! one of my favorite sounds on a GE locomotive!!! It's hard to explain, but I think it sounds too cool :) Thanks for sharing your knoledge and for watching the video!!!!!

does anyone know what that noise is at 0:43-0:44? I hear it all the time when the locomotives are idling. Thanks.

@youseeberkeley This sound, which is only heard on GEs, is the sound of the belt that drives the air compressor
