@guitarguy1789 if you throw some silica gel packs into the box with the ammo it will suck out the moisture (the little packs that comes in shoe boxes and leather goods packaging)
or a small tub of damp-rid next to your ammo stash and make sure its not in a high moisture location, we use damp-rid in our armory vault to make sure everything is not effected so much by humidity
What are your thoughts about stockpiling .223 Wolf or Silver Bear ammo for range and SHTF? Also should I go with the HP or FMJ rounds, price is very similar. Federal is the best but at $300/1k rounds it's hard to stockpile. Also what's your thoughts on x39 ammo for plinking and SHTF? Should I stockpile FMJ or HP ammo?

@mattownsu95 Remington 308 has higher chamber pressure than the NATO 7.62x51 so it is safe to do as you did. If your chamber indicates 7.62x51 you SHOULD NOT shoot 308 Remington out of it.

I think the only place that will be a horror-show, will be major cities. Police and National Guard will be out in-force. @t10bravo 100 rounds can be gone it less than a couple minutes, especially in the heat of a firefight. There is no such thing as the "right firearm", It's all about the shooter and how proficient they are with their own weapon. Optics? Learn a bit about Simo Hayha that man in his prime would gun you down and any of your buddies in seconds with a Mosin Nagant. Maybe a little bit of Sun Tzu will enlighten you.
@t10bravo There is no "right firearm", it's all about proficiency. 180-300 rounds is carried by most soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan depending on the mission. It's known all this ammunition can and will be gone in one firefight, firefights last HOURS not just 5 minutes and we're done. Even someone who's only gone shooting at the range would know that ammunition goes by fast.
Great stash here and great methods of shooting/re-stocking to keep the same number, I do that as well. Different things for different people; I only stock up on whatever I can carry on my person. I only plan on being able to carry one, maybe two, firearms on me if I needed to leave my house. I guess I'm just too afraid that if I had an amazing stockpile like yours and I had to get on the move, I'd have to leave almost all of it behind. Great stockpile for defending the house though!
@smoore4820 That is really up to you. I decided to just pay a lot of ammo and then I just rotate out like food. This way I always have the same amount of ammo on hand for a just in case situation. I'm starting to prepare mine, I have well over 10,000 rifle rounds, and 100 shotgun rounds, I need to get a few other weapons and get some extra barrels for my shotgun and ALOT more ammo for it, including several hundred rounds of 00 and 000 buck, and several hundred slugs, and maybe a thousand birdshot. the only problem with my rifle is that it's a .22, it takes a good shot to be lethal. but with 10,000 rounds and several magazines plus 10rd capacity of each, it should be okay.
What are you paying for the 00 buck? I can only find it as cheap as 50 cents a shot. Walmart has them at 1 dollar per (box of 5 for about 5 bucks) Went to ammo to go online and they have nice prices, but shotgun shells are by far the most expensive.

Most peoples money is stored electronically, if the SHTF, it's better to have in invested in weapons and defense then in some bank which you don't have access. Moreover, on the rare occasion currency lost it's value in a disaster, weapons and ammunition could be used as an alternative. Do you have body armour btw?

@TIKIMAN198 Metal ones are airtight and waterproof (check the seals and oil them) allowing ammo to be stored pretty much forever, plastic are not.

One question tho, with all the ammo you have, wouldnt it make sense to reload and cut that cost? Im looking ino reloading as i feel i can not just shoot more but come the SHTF yo can sell / trade for other items.

@t10bravo 100 rounds can be gone it less than a couple minutes, especially in the heat of a firefight. There is no such thing as the "right firearm", It's all about the shooter and how proficient they are with their own weapon. Optics? Optics take no skill, Iron Sights and you won't have to worry about your optics breaking or in the case of a red dot run out of batteries. You sound like a kid to me

@t10bravo I'm sure I'm a hell of a lot older than you, If you're not smart enough to realize that it's not the weapons or the gear that matters its your proficiency with that weapon. I could have the gear, but If I've never used any of this before, I'm not going to hit shit with my "right firearm". Learn a bit about Simo Hayha that man in his prime would gun you down and any of your buddies in seconds with a Mosin Nagant. Maybe a little bit of Sun Tzu will enlighten you.

@t10bravo There is no "right firearm", it's all about proficiency. 180-300 rounds is carried by most soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan depending on the mission. It's known all this ammunition can and will be gone in one firefight, firefights last HOURS not just 5 minutes and we're done. Even someone who's only gone shooting at the range would know that ammunition goes by fast.

Great stash here and great methods of shooting/re-stocking to keep the same number, I do that as well. Different things for different people; I only stock up on whatever I can carry on my person. I only plan on being able to carry one, maybe two, firearms on me if I needed to leave my house. I guess I'm just too afraid that if I had an amazing stockpile like yours and I had to get on the move, I'd have to leave almost all of it behind. Great stockpile for defending the house though!

@smoore4820 That is really up to you. I decided to just pay a lot of ammo and then I just rotate out like food. This way I always have the same amount of ammo on hand for a just in case situation. It costs a little bit up front but it makes me feel better and I guess that is all that matters. Good luck! Cheers!

I'm starting to prepare mine, I have well over 10,000 rifle rounds, and 100 shotgun rounds, I need to get a few other weapons and get some extra barrels for my shotgun and ALOT more ammo for it, including several hundred rounds of 00 and 000 buck, and several hundred slugs, and maybe a thousand birdshot. the only problem with my rifle is that it's a .22, it takes a good shot to be lethal. but with 10,000 rounds and several magazines plus 10rd capacity of each, it should be okay.

What are you paying for the 00 buck? I can only find it as cheap as 50 cents a shot. Walmart has them at 1 dollar per (box of 5 for about 5 bucks) Went to ammo to go online and they have nice prices, but shotgun shells are by far the most expensive.

@northwestprepper now all you need is body armor, and a .50bmg or 20/50 anzio for armored attackers. lol do you have a shotgun too? cause you'll need it for cqb. I think that no matter how someone tries to prevent it there's going to eventually be a time when you'll need it, and it's better to prepare than to have it happen and have nothing.

@lordconan1976 everyone forgets about the time factor. do you know how long shtf will last ? how long will you have to fight off people looking to take your food or water or harm your loved ones it might be a month it might be a year. having a good supply of ammo is just one less thing to worry about

Most peoples money is stored electronically, if the SHTF, it's better to have in invested in weapons and defense then in some bank which you don't have access. Moreover, on the rare occasion currency lost it's value in a disaster, weapons and ammunition could be used as an alternative. Do you have body armour btw?
