I'm 23 years old sometimes I wish i was 70 though cuz I coulda been here or at least lived in the time with best music ever but at least I got get a tiny tiny taste with stuff like this
All of you who weren't born durning this time just don't have a clue. These were the best of times for all of us except for the soldiers in Vietnam. When John was singing this song we loved our kids, not beating them and killing them like you idiots do today! What has happened to this generation? What happened to loving your family and putting them first? The world is slowly coming to an end because our kids have no common sense or love for family.
1969 the concept of a video phone was not that far fetched we had landed on the moon that year after all they just didn't have technology to make them fit in your hand...art imitates life
It probably was priceless. As I wrote when I saw him last year (May 2010 at the Montpelier Arts Centerin Laurel Maryland) he said he didn't sing it anymore. But any of John's performances are priceless, imo.
I saw John in concert last year. Someone in the audience asked if he could sing this song. And. He said he doesn't sing it anymore because "it's BULL!" (Direct quote from John). He said that after he had children and knowing what he knows about parenthood, he can't sing this song anymore in good conscious.
Hey, at least he's honest and not some poser like others.
They lost the culture wars, they lacked focus they where generally not analytical and there image was not some thing most people would feel comfortable projecting onto them selves. They had a good spirit but the many baubles they attached to there life style and ideology made it impossible for there message to be accepted and put into practice overall. That is my impression at least but I have no idea what happened back in the sixties I am 20 and am not a modern history buff.
I was listening to a 16 year old boy on telly a while ago talking about Hippies being a bunch of losers. The thing that struck me beyond his myriad of other facile remarks was, he wore jewelry, had a pierced ear resplendent with sparkling diamond, lose unbuttoned shirt and as a Pièce de résistance, shoulder length hair.
@Samisnorris the 2000s are the machine times....we are all machines of this system....the age of the masters of wars....the army is the cheapest drug there is, it tells you beautiful things but at the end you will die n destroy many other lives......

what's the deal with all these nude babies and toddlers in this video? and also how high was this dude when he was talking about newport and no f*ck up's and s*hit like that? cause whatever he was smoking, snorting, popping and/or injecting i just hope that for the love of god that he is off of it now.
I Love this song. It's gorgeous and wonderful. Dude I want a Woodstock like this all over again. I would be there and just chill with everybody. This makes me just wish like mad I could have been alive back then. This song is so moving. I Love this! John Sebatian is the shit! I Love him!
Oh man this Is awesome :D hahaha!! "my man chip.....man...hes doing so well man" I love his optimistic attitude...." this is gonna work" a true hippie :)
wow dude you fucking act like they control who goes to woodstock.......there were a shit load of black people bro unless you want to take the time picking them out of 400,000 people
Yeah... he wasn't even supposed to perform! They pulled him out of the audience because they had no one to play, and at the time, he was peaking on acid! It's hard to believe (considering how great his set was) it, but it's true!
i dont understand, there are 2 vids of him doin 2 songs, at the end of both songs he says his goodbyes and leaves?! does he come back to do another that he didnt know about?!!!!!
Hi. I know you asked you question abou this video 3 months ago but wanted to answer anyway. He says "goodbye" after each song because he didnt know how many songs he was going to do. He wasnt even scheduled to perform. They just kept sending him out there as a time filler til they got some electrical problems fixed.
He wasn't even supposed to perform. They asked him to do a 15 minute acoustic set while they swept water off of the stage so the electric bands didn't get electrocuted. Don't know why this song STILL isn't on the soundtrack CDs (even the supposedly "complete" Woodstock soundtrack that came out a few years back). Saw him live at a Don Kirshner Rock Concert taping and ducked outside as soon as he went off stage. Hung out by the stage door and met him when he came out. A true gentleman.
I love this song so much, it just totally reminds me of my own father and how this was his generation and how he tried to instill some of the same beliefs in me.
En train d'appendre "Younger Generation" à la guitare, mais je pourrai surement jamais la jouer aussi bien :) John Sebastian c'est juste l'âme de Woodstock, l'innocence de la paix...
