I wonder why our XC90 is totally white. I haven't seen any similar XC90s to that in the whole world. Do anyone know if it is a special paint or something ? It's not a normal colour that you can choose when buying the car.
@MySipuli If your XC90 is a used car, the previous owner could have resprayed it; otherwise, you might have bought the 'Sport' version. The 'Sport' version has body-coloured wheel arches and bumpers instead of the common black plastic, which is featured in most XC90s.
@byAudiQuattro The 'Sport' version is not the same as the 'R-Design' version , right? Its not a used car but it was bought ( it has the T6 engine) years ago before the new 4.4 V8 engine was on the market.
@byAudiQuattro I visited Singapore last summer :). Okay but in Finland where I live to buy a brand new XC90 you have to order it because its the only way to buy it. Also you can choose the engine you want and other equipment (such as the R-design package or the executive etc) you'd like to have with 5 or 7 seats , its all up to you. If Im not mistaken in Singapore you can't do that because for example the 3.2 litre I6 is the only engine available for the R-design model ??
@MySipuli For 2012, the XC90 R-Design only comes with either a 3.2 or 4.4 V8 engine, with seven seats. The 2.5T version doesn't have an R-Design kit.
In Singapore, cars are generally well-specced. A basic Fiat 500 here for example, comes with leather seats, air-con and nice features as standard; whereas in the UK such features are extras.
@byAudiQuattro Yes you're right. There is also special pay depending on how "big2 is your car's engine in Singapore. For exmple if you have over 1.6 litre engine -> you have to pay 70.000dollars extra. Expensive but every sixth person in Singapore has a property of 1 million dollars or MORE ! :)
@MySipuli Lol I know right. A Mercedes-Benz E-Class or a BMW 5 Series would cost about $230 000 in Singapore right now. That is $177 322 USD... enough to buy something a lot poshier. But the thing is, Singapore is filled with E-Classes, S-Classes, 5-Series, A4s...
@byAudiQuattro Yep, Mostly 7- series and S-class plus Porsche Panameras. I didn't see many audis there. I saw Many many supercars and super luxuries such as Bentleys, Maybachs and roll Royces ! BMW 5-series's prices starts here from 45.000 euros ( 1 euro = 1.8 sing.dolalrs)
@byAudiQuattro But for example M5 costs 103 000 euros (= $180 000 SGD). These prices in Finland are one of the highest prices in the whole Europe. XC90 V8 costs 120 000euros(= $200 000) SGD etc.
@MySipuli As a car enthusiast, Singapore is one of the worst places you could be in. But fortunately, we are rather well-off in terms of economy, so I'm staying put here.
4 years ago, $54 000 could only get you a Honda Jazz (or Fit). Now the prices are even crazier (as if they aren't already crazy enough), $54 000 could only get you a Kia Picanto or sorts!
The prices are this high because of land constraints, because too many cars = very bad congestion. Only 1 in 8 people here own cars.

@byAudiQuattro Yeh. I was driving a Ferrari F430 there and the driver told me about that. The Ultimate Drive near Marina Bay Sands, an amazing experience ! Actually I'm scared of heights and it was a bit exciting to swim in the pool at the of the building because there are no walls in the pool or you know (?). You could see the whole city from the pool :D
@MySipuli Oh, I've heard about the Ultimate Drive thingy of sorts, though I've yet to try it. I haven't went up the pool at the Marina Bay Sands yet, because they do charge locals for going up there! I hope to go up there one day however :D I think they have glass windows at the pool for windows. I love the view of the Singapore skyline, I still get excited whenever my parents drive me to town! :)

@wokeupthismorning100 There have been a few minor cosmetic ones. Volvo basically used the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" premise with this car. However, there are sketches of what the new one might look like. There should be a new one in less than 2 years.
@ItsTheAJrox you have to admit if you were to choose which car you had to be in an accident with you would pick the xc 90 unless you are out of your mind
Volvos are dependable but horrible in the snow. As for Klokjvaarpsta's comment about Americans building crappy cars. If you live in the Rocky mtns and need a car for the snow, there is NO OTHER than an AMERICAN SUV. Americans make great cars -you have never driven a Yukon in a snow storm - --clearly.
@kfbridge I own four Volvos right now. An S80, V70 T5, V70 GLT and an XC-90. EVERY one of the cars is good in the snow and the XC-90 excels in the heaviest of snowfall, even pulling my snowmobiles. I used to own Chevys before I became an ardent Euro-only owner, including a Tahoe. The only car that I owned that was better in the snow than my XC-90 was my Allroad Audi Quattro. And, that is because nothing beats the Quattro system. Not even the Volvo Haldex Traction systems. Volvo for life.
It's so funny to watch how slow it's driven. Then again it's always fuuny to watch americans review european cars because most european cars are better than american ones and americans never adimit it. Kind of pathetic. Just make a few good cars! Please! I would love to see an american car that is both fast well put together and good to drive. Just put your hearts into it.
trying to get my mom into selling her Volvo S40 and buy a used XC90 D5 instead. I like this car, and its very common and quite cheap here in Sweden too.
Nice looking, but don't go out in the snow. I could not believe my eyes today when I saw one struggling on a slight incline. I actually had to look them up and to my astonishment found they ARE 4x4! Just get a Land Rover.
Can you say "Volvo Sexy-Nitey!"?? --- gawd she's a hottie!! ;-) ....yeah I drive a Honda Element, a wonderful suv with "cheeky" good looks, but I want a Volvo SexyNitey!!!
I wish I could find this song, so I can listen to it and pretend my Honda Element is an XC90 when I drive it!!!! I want the V8......I can't believe I'm sayin' that!! But the Volvo, she is a hottie!!!
@sempen The new T6 makes 300 hp and 325 pound feet of torque, but that'd make the V8 irrelivant. They should make a 350 hp out of the V8 shouldn't they???
The discovery will be better off road, but if you only occasionally use it for off-roading then go for the XC90, it's a great car and will be far more comfortable.
I have a XC90 with all options, and I LOVE IT! It may not be the best off road car, but if i would want to go off road i would have bought a car without metallicpaint. It takes me up this big hill that we have on our farm, and not many cars can climb it in the swedish winter.
same here man. i own it and i love that thing. it has the third seating row which i used it quite often. plenty of power on V6 twin turbo, nice interior, seats are comfortable etc. parts can be expensive but so are for any european car. i knew that before i bought it. i have had it for two an half years but now time for change and Audi Q7 or Mercedes GL are on my list (used ones of course). Volvo XC90 is a tank you will feel safe whoever is planning on buying one.

The XC90 is nice and safe, z z z z ...
Although if you can do without a 3rd row & you still want to have the offroad ability of the XC90 I don't think its the best vehicle for the money. You should check out the 2010 all new Subaru Outback. I just came across it. It has 2 engine options, a 2.5l Boxer 4cyl engine w/170hp & 170tq or my favorite, the new 3.6l Boxer 6cyl w/256hp & 247tq which is more power than the xc90 base engine & fully loaded is only around $31K. Take a look. :)
Its a very good car. I have owned it for 6 years. Never broke down..... no problems at all... But, im switching to an xc60 soon that will be great!!!!
So jealous! I wish I could afford one...please let me know what you think of the xc60 when you get it. If I ever had the money to buy something a little more luxurious than my CR-V, it would be the xc60! =)
LOL...i guess your car is only straight car? wait,,maybe you don't own one...anyways,,it was rated the best car of the year,,,if it is the gayest car as your said,,then there must be lots gay out there rating this car so excellent....own one before you give your opinions...
it's heavier and safer also I love the interior, nice and simple flat tilted dash line. Rx's flash-silver plastic looks so cheap and light,, Rx is more like car. . .
Thats what i'm stuck on right now... between those two... Rx does have a better exterior look. But the interior of the xc90 destroys the rx... Fuck i dont know
volvo man you will just fall in love with the swedish luxury better handling too, V8 destroys the toyota's crappy V6 also do yourself a favor and be a real man buying not buying anything japanese, seriosuly could you ever see arnold schwarzennegger driving a yota or a big swedish muscle suv? lol!

This video sounds like a commercial.
Anyways this Volvo is more MPV than an Offroader. It doesn't have real (permament) 4x4 drive. It's also stripped of some typical offroad functions that SUVs like Volkswagen Touareg have.
you can make it a good off roader there is a company in Iceland called Artic trucks they will change your car into a great off roader and top gear when they went to the north pole the car the where on had been changesde by Artic trucks P.S I´am not that good in english
My family is Swedish, and we bought a new XC90 this summer, but contrary to what
scholion said, Swedes don't just buy a new car every year with new upgrades. We had our old suv for about 4 years before this one, and it had over 215,000 kms on it.
But I have to said, the XC90 is a superb car and I love love love it, it feels so safe to be in, and is super super comfortable.
Not even in Sweden ordinary families can afford to buy a couple of new XC90s one year and replace them 12 months later by uppdates.
Swedes drive cars considerably more expensive than those of any other nation - and why apologize for loving Volvo V70s/XC70s which are the best selling cars over here - however, there's a, mainly, economical limit to what people buy.
Still, 4-5 year old XC90s are affordable to many Westerners.
JaBunGa23, Volvo is known for its safety and good quality. But Volvo's are quite luxurious, for instance an XC90 "Executive" you can put LCD screens for every headrest, you can also decide what color combination of leather for your seats, seat heating, directional Xenon lights, Navigation, there are different wood trims etc. It's not that luxurious as an Audi in the sense of having a very nice control panel design, but if you buy one with full options, it is then quite luxurious and expensive.
Yes, it's owned by the Ford Motor Company, but all Volvo's are made in Sweden, and each car is made by a team of workers who build and therefore see the car being built from the ground up.
Where did he say that Volvo was "made" by Americans?? He clearly states that it is, and I quote, "owned by AMERICANS"! I don't know how someone can read "implications" into something that was so simply and clearly stated.
No and you clearly miss it, he might have been JUST saying it is owned by Americans, but he capitalized the whole word 'AMERICANS' indicating as if that ANYTHING important to how the car is made. The company may be owned by an American Company but it ends there.
So don't be an idiot that tries to be a smart ass and tell me that there can be no implications taken out of THAT comment when you very fucking well know there are.
70% of people buy SUV's and do not go off-road at all and that's why bmw is clever and realised that to make a good SUV is ride and comfort. Thats why the have the best SUV
The BMW X3 and X5 are boring, ugly and depreciates way to much, The ML you getting ripped off left, right and centre. The Volvo XC90 would have to be my pick, that Jamesysam002 knows nothing about cars and 4x4s
maybe i should agree with you, i mean the Volvo xc90 is cheaper than the BMW x3, x5,& ML series...and the Volvo xc90 is affordable, the ML is the most expensive!
I think i know a tad more than you mate..... Why are u getting ripped off left right and centre?
Maybe if u read the real people that are actually testing these cars... U will understand that its you who does not know anything about cars of 4x4's....
I beg your pardon...mate. I just happen to know what a 4x4 is, it's a car which happens to have all the power going to all four
wheels instead of two. Are you trying to make me out to be stupid?
Go ask Jeremy Clarkson for example he's a hugh petrol-head and he knows his cars better than anyone else, why do you think he has a XC90 instead of a X5 or a ML.
Seriously, you can disagree all you like, but you can't go around saying someone doesn't have a clue about something.
I congratulate you for the explanation. I disagree with the rest of the opinions regarding to be a lemon. It is a blody good car, I have one XC90, I bought it second hand 2002 with 138000 km a T6, extremely happy and Volvos in my family date since 1972. My uncle have had Volvos since 1972, so far 7 at the moment 1 XC90 diesel and for his wife and S80. The only thing that I don't like from Volvos is that they are FWD and engines are transverse. Should have keep the RWD as BMW or Mercedes
2 of my friends bought two in 04 and one had a faulty transmission and a broken backseat release (among many others) at 38k, and the other lost the alternator and had to swerve off the beltway @ 70 with no power steering at 30k.
My dad bought a Certified used V70 wagon and it left him stranded 5x in less than a year. After the 5th flat-bed tow to the dealer, we got a Lemon Law attorney (CA) to get Volvo to take the car back. They refused to refund but did give him $5000. Volvo reliability is terrible since Ford bought them. Many Ford parts in the electronics- which is where most of the problems appear to stem from. Safe- sure, I guess. But how safe is it really if it breaks down at night in the middle of BFE?
you got a lemon and since ford has a partial involvement people like to blame them. Fords get criticized a lot by people who dont have them witch is bad because last time i checked the #1 truck is the f series so i dont think that ford is making peice of crap but i do feel bad for your dad.
Absolutely, he got a Lemon. And Volvo refused to do the right thing. My Dad bought his first Volvo 145 Wagon in 1970. He has had 7 Volvo wagons since along with a 1971 1800 that we restored. We KNOW these cars- far better than most. We have watched Volvo quality decline over the years. The decline has accelerated since Ford got involved with Volvo. I personally think Ford makes decent trucks. But it's a different division and seemingly a different design philosophy from their automobile division
i was at a volvo dealer recently and on of the sales men said that all of there cars are still made over in Europe so ford dose not really have much to do with the process. i have a 91 740 still running good.
Yep, still made in Sweden. But the NEW Volvos use alot of Ford parts- particularly and specifically electronic parts. Ford is further involved in that it has implemented American-style cost-cutting measures. There is NO WAY that you can compare your 1991 Volvo to the new models. The old ones were great. The new ones are not even the same car in terms of quality and reliability.
BTW, Volvo recently paid off my Dad ($6800) to make the Lemon Law suit we filed go away!

I bought my XC90 from Joe Alcoke Volvo in New Bern NC. It started leaking oil after 3000 miles, and stayed in the shop from Nov 9th 2007 until well its still there...You decide
im not even into cars, just stopped by to see what my parents were gettin themselves into.. nice car. I can even afford a new car im only 17, im happy with my supra, a little rusty but hey, its a supra
Ok, I've had enough you stupid ass fag. yeah thats right. FAg. ya know why?Because you are one, and a good example is the fact that you call everyone a fag. In holland we have a saying"wat je zegt ben je zelf" wich means whatever you call somebody else, you are yourself. ep thats Holland the country that is overfilled with polish dudes lookin for work.
When did I say the Honda was better you little CUNT!
And since money talks i got my fully loaded pilot for 30k while the Volvo dealership wasn't budging below 34k. Oh, and i am talking about the 3.2 X90(the shitty one). NOT the V8 all wheel drive or the sport.
They havnt redesigned the Pilot in like 10 years. You could have bought a used one from 2000 and saved 15k of your 30k. The Pilot is straight up sad. I believe it is you who is the dumbass... I have the old achool T5 in my xc90 and im pretty sure it can rock your top of the line Honda Pilot engine. Open and close the door on your Pilot and tell me if it raddles. Tell me if you can actually hear your radio at 60+. Vovlvo all the way. Hondas are bad.

The 3.2 liter engine got uprated to 240 hp. Just incase you wanted to know.
AdrianC12345 1 year ago
@AdrianC12345 tss it should be the t6 motor with 272 hp
sempen 1 year ago
@sempen The new T6 makes 300 hp and 325 pound feet of torque, but that'd make the V8 irrelivant. They should make a 350 hp out of the V8 shouldn't they???

The discovery will be better off road, but if you only occasionally use it for off-roading then go for the XC90, it's a great car and will be far more comfortable.

I have a XC90 with all options, and I LOVE IT! It may not be the best off road car, but if i would want to go off road i would have bought a car without metallicpaint. It takes me up this big hill that we have on our farm, and not many cars can climb it in the swedish winter.
marsatter 2 years ago 5
same here man. i own it and i love that thing. it has the third seating row which i used it quite often. plenty of power on V6 twin turbo, nice interior, seats are comfortable etc. parts can be expensive but so are for any european car. i knew that before i bought it. i have had it for two an half years but now time for change and Audi Q7 or Mercedes GL are on my list (used ones of course).

@KnoxKnowsBest Wow the top engine in that is just barley more powerful than the base engine Volvo, that just shows why we shouldn't buy it.

Anyways this Volvo is more MPV than an Offroader. It doesn't have real (permament) 4x4 drive. It's also stripped of some typical offroad functions that SUVs like Volkswagen Touareg have.

My family is Swedish, and we bought a new XC90 this summer, but contrary to what
scholion said, Swedes don't just buy a new car every year with new upgrades. We had our old suv for about 4 years before this one, and it had over 215,000 kms on it.
But I have to said, the XC90 is a superb car and I love love love it, it feels so safe to be in, and is super super comfortable.
tiggerbear889 3 years ago

lazzyJames 3 years ago
"It's not really for everybody"
- Yes, but in theory only.
Still, 4-5 year old XC90s are affordable to many Westerners.
scholion 3 years ago
is volvo considered luxury
JaBunGa23 3 years ago
JaBunGa23, Volvo is known for its safety and good quality. But Volvo's are quite luxurious, for instance an XC90 "Executive" you can put LCD screens for every headrest, you can also decide what color combination of leather for your seats, seat heating, directional Xenon lights, Navigation, there are different wood trims etc. It's not that luxurious as an Audi in the sense of having a very nice control panel design, but if you buy one with full options, it is then quite luxurious and expensive.

volvo is owned by AMERICANS
lovUSAhj 3 years ago
Yes, it's owned by the Ford Motor Company, but all Volvo's are made in Sweden, and each car is made by a team of workers who build and therefore see the car being built from the ground up.
capitalflush 3 years ago 2
ok nothing i did not know but good
lovUSAhj 3 years ago
lovUSAhj, with your comment I thought you were trying to imply that Volvo is also "made" by Americans..
capitalflush 3 years ago
Where did he say that Volvo was "made" by Americans?? He clearly states that it is, and I quote, "owned by AMERICANS"! I don't know how someone can read "implications" into something that was so simply and clearly stated.
paulanoog 3 years ago
No and you clearly miss it, he might have been JUST saying it is owned by Americans, but he capitalized the whole word 'AMERICANS' indicating as if that ANYTHING important to how the car is made. The company may be owned by an American Company but it ends there.
So don't be an idiot that tries to be a smart ass and tell me that there can be no implications taken out of THAT comment when you very fucking well know there are.

jamesysam002 3 years ago 4
that's the point!!! you rather buy a sedan than buy a SUV that can't go off road!
djkasdjkasdjdjdj 3 years ago
70% of people buy SUV's and do not go off-road at all and that's why bmw is clever and realised that to make a good SUV is ride and comfort. Thats why the have the best SUV
knightautres 3 years ago
The BMW X3 and X5 are boring, ugly and depreciates way to much, The ML you getting ripped off left, right and centre. The Volvo XC90 would have to be my pick, that Jamesysam002 knows nothing about cars and 4x4s
BPGK94 3 years ago 2

djkasdjkasdjdjdj 3 years ago 4
I think i know a tad more than you mate..... Why are u getting ripped off left right and centre?
Maybe if u read the real people that are actually testing these cars... U will understand that its you who does not know anything about cars of 4x4's....
jamesysam002 3 years ago
I beg your pardon...mate. I just happen to know what a 4x4 is, it's a car which happens to have all the power going to all four
wheels instead of two. Are you trying to make me out to be stupid?
Go ask Jeremy Clarkson for example he's a hugh petrol-head and he knows his cars better than anyone else, why do you think he has a XC90 instead of a X5 or a ML.
Seriously, you can disagree all you like, but you can't go around saying someone doesn't have a clue about something.

My uncle have had Volvos since 1972, so far 7 at the moment 1 XC90 diesel and for his wife and S80. The only thing that I don't like from Volvos is that they are FWD and engines are transverse. 2 of my friends bought two in 04 and one had a faulty transmission and a broken backseat release (among many others) at 38k, and the other lost the alternator and had to swerve off the beltway @ 70 with no power steering at 30k.
bg1379 3 years ago
My dad bought a Certified used V70 wagon and it left him stranded 5x in less than a year. After the 5th flat-bed tow to the dealer, we got a Lemon Law attorney (CA) to get Volvo to take the car back. They refused to refund but did give him $5000. Volvo reliability is terrible since Ford bought them. Many Ford parts in the electronics- which is where most of the problems appear to stem from. Safe- sure, I guess. But how safe is it really if it breaks down at night in the middle of BFE?
jimbo92660 3 years ago
you got a lemon and since ford has a partial involvement people like to blame them. Fords get criticized a lot by people who dont have them witch is bad because last time i checked the #1 truck is the f series so i dont think that ford is making peice of crap but i do feel bad for your dad.
britishbomber 3 years ago
Absolutely, he got a Lemon. And Volvo refused to do the right thing. My Dad bought his first Volvo 145 Wagon in 1970. He has had 7 Volvo wagons since along with a 1971 1800 that we restored. We KNOW these cars- far better than most. We have watched Volvo quality decline over the years. The decline has accelerated since Ford got involved with Volvo. I personally think Ford makes decent trucks. But it's a different division and seemingly a different design philosophy from their automobile division
jimbo92660 3 years ago
I think Volvo is more for overal safety and reliablity. An Ford is better in great power and fast acceleracion<----My English is bad I know.
budel007player 3 years ago
i was at a volvo dealer recently and on of the sales men said that all of there cars are still made over in Europe so ford dose not really have much to do with the process. i have a 91 740 still running good.
britishbomber 3 years ago
Yep, still made in Sweden. But the NEW Volvos use alot of Ford parts- particularly and specifically electronic parts. Ford is further involved in that it has implemented American-style cost-cutting measures. There is NO WAY that you can compare your 1991 Volvo to the new models. The old ones were great. The new ones are not even the same car in terms of quality and reliability.
BTW, Volvo recently paid off my Dad ($6800) to make the Lemon Law suit we filed go away!
