Pearl Jam - my favorite band for 10 years... I was there at the 10th Anniversary concert in Las Vegas... Amazing show. As a teenager, I obsessively listened to Binaural, Vitalogy and No Code on repeat. I've seen them live 4 times... Spent countless amounts of dollars on Pearl Jam... Used to talk about Pearl Jam all day to people... Bought everything PJ released.
It took me a few years later to realize Sonic Youth was by far the greatest band I've ever heard... Didn't even think PJ was close...
If the rock and roll hall of fame (really it is a shame) doesn't put Pearl Jam on the first ballet the first year they are able to be, then they are truly idiots.
@TheRealCretin BOLLOCKS. The documentary is about PJ not Nirvana. Even then Nirvana weren't ignored as Kurt is even in the film. They aren't over-rated but slagged at every turn especially by the shitty British media in the 90's. They have already earned their place in the pantheon of rock.
Anyone who thinks Pearl Jam belongs in the pantheon is on crack. Vedder does have a great voice, but the band can't write great songs - at least not anymore.
The fact that this documentary COMPLETELY ignores Nirvana is unforgiveable.
Teen Spirit BROKE grunge, not Pearl Jam, although they were part of it. Still, they are so overrated, it makes one hurl. They're only the best because they're still around. They were the worst of the four major Seattle bands.
@TheRealCritique i disagree with your "COMPLETELY ignores Nirvana" because that would mean nirvana and kurt cobain weren't even mentioned at all in PJ20. which isn't the case.
there was actually an entire segment. plus a part of an interview with cobain
That's because Pearl Jam isn't the greatest... Sonic Youth is the greatest... And even then, The Velvet Underground were also better than Pearl Jam... And even then, Nirvana were better than Pearl Jam - they just didn't make as many albums.
@MartinEden1984 Ha ha! Of course they aren't the greatest. Neither are Sonic Youth. There's always gonna be someone better. In the end, everything is subjective and if you don't see it that way, wouldn't exist the posibility of being greater by making less albums. I mean, Sex Pistols are great and just have one album.
There are the Beatles, and Led Zeppelin, Pink FLoyd....you know the classics. Pearl Jam deserves to be among them, the elite. Those who alter how we feel, live and breath music deserve to be called Rock Gods. Thank You Pearl Jam.
Sonic Youth - best band of our lifetime.
