The best car I've ever had. Sky Aqua with the white stripe. 4 door, 283 V8, 210 hp, dual exhaust, 2 speed automatic. It didn't just purr, it hummed. R.I.P. 1961-1996
Just so great. Actually they were a real departure from their 50's brothers. Lots more straight clean lines. minimal fins, and lighter weight. They were the begining of what we all love as smaller, pony cars that evolved to the Tempest, GTO, Mustang and Cougar models. American cars were KING! And still are. I like to think.
Great ad! You actually get to look at the car. Oh and the music is subtle yet swinging! I guess I am getting old now, cause I don't "get" TV car commercials anymore. Can't remember when I saw an ad that made me think......I want that car
This was car advertisement. Right to the point and key detail about the car they are selling. Maybe they should try ads like these instead of giant numbers of different models rolling every which way on the ad.
The '61 4-door hardtop was my first car. I loved it, and ran up way over 100,000 miles on it. Ran like a trooper, and I could actually look at the engine and work on it. I still wish I had not sold it in 1980!
When I was a kid our neighbors bought a new '61 Chevy Impala. That car was the attraction of the neighborhood. Those were the days GM made real cars and style was everything. Nothing like these plastic look alikes running up and down the roads today.
I just saw this same commercial on the Route 66 classic episodes DVD. Love those old Chevy tv ads! LOL at the "new vinyl foam cushion seats"... what did they have inside the seats before?
I remember seeing the sneak preview commercials in the fall of 1960, but I'd forgotten they re-used the commercial after the '61s came out...cool visuals, cool music...too bad you couldn't do something like that with the current models!
my first car bought used in 1968.

How are we supposed to see a kaleidoscope in a black and white commercial?

The 61's looked cheap and awkward in design compared with the 62, 63, and 64's !

They use to have metal springs and felt padding, eventually the springs would break and poke through.

- Presumably with horse hair insulation. Or something.

@PineTreePictures They had metal springs like living room furniture.

The slogan "The greatest show on worth" is a little awkward. Doesn't exactly roll off the tongue, does it?
