  • if my chevette wasn't so.... automatic... then i'd love to do this :D

  • what size engine? just the 1.6?

  • nice punch in the mirror

  • Bets the hell out of the dirt-track Chevette races I saw in Lafayette, TN. back in the day !!! From 12th to the win, how awsome is that? Great driving, bud. Wish my 84 CS had run that good. Good luck in future races.

  • makes me want a Chevette. Gonna have to look at the Chevette series rules. I assume it's mostly stock racing?

  • Holy shit that kicked ass!! what a tiring race!! and all done with kick ass lil chevettes? pretty evenly matched field there, great vid!

  • 1 wheel, 3 pedals, 1 stick, + 1 windscreen wiper switch.

    pure race driving

  • lawl at hitting your mirror

  • excellent driving. I absolutely LOVE driving in the snow, of course Toronto winters are nothing like this. hopefully one day I'll be able to do this also.

  • Clean Race...Nice job Man

  • sweet video man

  • my 82' is a field car so no racing for me :P

  • Were there any Pontic T1000s in that race? Those are basicly Pontiacs Chevette.

  • D; and i just want a chevette for day to day travels! lol

  • lol man u punched the mirror ^^ anyway nice race

  • Best race i ever watched, Way to go on the checkers.....!!!!

  • almost broke the mirror in the end lol :D

  • Smooth, made up good time in the "S".

Gave guys room, took advantage when the time was right. didn't punt anyone. Nice job. Thumbs up..

  • My first and second car were Chevettes. People never beleive me when I tell them that was the best car I ever had for getting around in the snow. I guess the car was just balanced well or something. We used to race around town when it would snow. Two of my freinds also had Chevettes. Good times. I should go buy one now, I miss them.

  • Excelent job and a damn good race!! Are you running studs or just winter tires?

  • Been answered before. Check previous comments.

Chevette Series rules require the same spec-tire for everyone. They're normal everyday rubber winter street tires, Bridgestone Blizzak, no studs.

  • Wow, good race. Pass for 2nd was epic.

  • wow. nice work!

  • car number 54 was near you whole race :)

    nice ending :))

  • #54 is Terry, Chevette Series Champion in 2006 & 2008. He is a VERY good driver, calm and smooth. Finishing 3rd behind him should have been all I could hope for.

I would never have gotten past Terry if not for him snagging some deep slush and getting pulled off line. For me, passing Terry for 2nd place was the highlight of my entire weekend.

Passing Trent then too for the win in the last corner was unbelievably lucky.

  • yeah right on man!!! that was a sick race i was on the edge of my seat the whole time lol chevettes ftw

  • Those cars were great! - so long as you rust-proofed them. GM could have updated them, more power & fuel injection. Instead, we got the Sprint. What a joke

  • so my chevette IS good for something..haha looks fun maybe ill come up there for 2010

  • HAHA THAT WAS GREAT!!! Did it have the original 1.6l engine in it?

  • awesome!!!

  • i race mine on a dirt track, some of the best fun u can have with yur clothes on !

  • i need a door by the way

  • nice race and drift

  • cool vid man.I used to race the 40 and 50 car from Lac La biche for the college10 years ago.

  • Comment removed

  • Nice race!!!

  • hi 5v. its gtn way to hard to find some now. use to be they were everywhere. i saw one today on the road. the first ive seen in 2 years. i grinned lol.

  • Awesome! I love how you punched the rear view mirror at the end :D

  • love it!!!, especially the ending how he smoked the first place at like last min!!! LOL

  • It's like Mario Kart

  • that lil tec 4 4cyl engine will give you everything it has. listen at it. brings back memorys of my lil white herby.

  • the chevette is a true rally car. it was designed in germany and called "the world car". it was a concept car and peoples car. morons destroyed and didnt take care of them and then said they were junk. mine wasant and never broke down once. im gtn another one before theyre all gone.

  • sure thing...

ate least some of brazillians like 'em and take good care of 'em.

but there are few of them rolling on streets. i don't care. i'll buy my own.

  • them cars are ugly

  • jealous

  • ice is nice...

how come i do not hear the engine?

  • lol this is were i live lac la biche

  • lol way to punch ur mirror lol looks pretty sweet i should get into someting like that

  • nice smoked him at the last min.

  • Glorious!

  • Wowzer. 6:30-7:50 was probably my favorite part. Good long battle there and you grabbed that opening nicely. Also, nice at 9:45, totally took out his line.

  • nice win, man. Really fun to watch, and i cant wait for this season(in BC).

  • tubatits... is the Chevette series still on in the Okanagon? I did a few races in the mid 90's... still have those Hancook tires in the garage. I shouldn't have sold the car... it's almost impossible to find another of these vette anymore.

  • The series has been dead out here for about 10 years, as has ice racing in general, due to lack of ice.

We have been making the run to Ashcroft for the last few years, with the Vancouver guys. Last year though, we had great ice here, and ran 4 weekends, and easily could've ran 1 more. we mix the chevettes with open class(what i run) and the run screws. I know of 2 cars for sale locally, with one being a front runner, let me know if you're interested.

  • like tubatits says Okanagan ice racing was dead for many years but is up and running again with far fewer participants, we had 8/9 cars last year total. Found that the best ice was on Swan Lake north of Vernon. Like tubatits we run an open class car but it is a chevette just with a datsun280z engine. Tubatits, interested in who you are and what you run cause we probably know eachother. Cant wait to get going in a couple of weeks. Love this video by the way, gets me pumped for the season.

  • excellent vid! was exciting to watch :)

  • Racing on sand is cool too :)

  • I've fixed thousands of machines and my 81 chevette is the ONLY one that has never let me down.

  • The best vid ever! I still get all teary eyed when I think of my 86, 2dr, 5 speed Pontiac Acadian Gold Leaf. I wouldn't have scraped it if I knew there was something like this going on. I could do anything with that car!

  • As the owner of the car in the video, it is interesting to read these replies. The car is prepared about 8/10. But that's all you need in a DRIVER SERIES like this. That was me under-steering off badly in one corner in this video, painfully watching mistake-free drivers overtake me...

  • Awesome!!

But try that Chevette again a Saab in an ice race!

  • *jaw drops* I didn't think there were that many Chevettes left alive in the whole country, let alone in one province, at one rate track!

  • My chevette barely lasted 70k with no abuse... just ohio weather... i didnt know some lasted that long lol

  • that was awesome me and my brother have succombed to the power of the chevette we have a shrine in the garage and only those who know can even begin to see the madness

  • great i am a motox rider so i know what adrenalin feels like, never felt any thing to compere to it but that loks fun....cant do it tho cos im 13

    net year ill try rallyx

  • very nice! gets me thinking about my old '76 orange chevette.

  • NICE DRIVING!!! VERY IMPRESSIVE!!!CONGRATULATIONS!!! ( But, that's from a guy who can't get his '80 Chevette out of the driveway without crashing when it snows)

    GREAT vid!!! You da MAN!

  • Hey, nice patient driving, dude! Well done! I'm planning on getting a car ready for the 2008-09 ice racing season where I am in Ontario. Never done it before - but it looks like tons of fun.

  • Okay, I'm moving up North where it snows!!!

  • Nice, clean driving!

  • Really fun. Who cares if ya roll a dinged up Chevette?

  • I'm not sure what's worse, the fact I watched it all the way through or the fact that there's a "Chevette class".

  • well, he competes and id say u dont. Looks like really good budget racing, fair play.

  • Beautiful race! congrats! from 13 to 1! is really good!

Ever try a AWD on ice? what do you think?

    best regards

  • This looks like so much fun.

Take a bunch of undepowered RWD econoboxes and put em on the ice and race!

Some slick (no pun indended) driving on your part. Congrads on the win!

  • i like how u smacked ur rearview mirror

  • great driving but i have one question. where did this take place?

  • Click up top there, where it says "About This Video". It's Lac la Biche, Alberta.

  • thanks, i looked at that just after i posted this, sorry 4 the inconvenience

  • Do they have a banger series for this? Because low powered cars and low traction sound like the perfect conditions for safe and violent collisions.

  • We try to avoid any contact, but accidents do happen. Click on my username, skip over all the rally clips, and check out my other Chevette IceRacing video. Lots of banging in that one. If that's not enough for ya, see my subscriber's list and look at Faster78's clips. He has one HUGE impact.

  • No, Banger racing is a style of racing where you deliberately try to wreck the other vehicles. First one across the checkered flag wins or the last car mobile wins depending on how the race goes. It's quite fun and quite insane.

  • Hmm

Good driving using the car in the right manner..

Looks like you got a lot moore grip than most of the others. Your car isnt even drifting when the others go wide.. Had the same experience when I found a set of old WRC Michelin and drove on the ice here in sweden. I was the king easily.....

What type of tires do you use ?

Rallyetires for ice or pure iceracing tires..

  • We all run the same spec tire, as required by the Chevette Series rules. They're normal everyday rubber winter street tires, no studs -- Bridgestone Blizzak.

  • Too bad and good aswell !

It makes your series more even and not that costly..

Then I bow for your driving skills !

Ive used standard wintertires on the icecurcuits and its really difficult keeping the speed through the corners... And when everbody using them the curcuit gets polished and even moore slippery..

Are you allowed to use studs on the public roads over there.

Look in my favorites on the BMW M3 on the curcuit here in sweden.

  • Nice job man!

  • Was this an inverted field? You drove a lot better than the other guys. You never seemed to push wide even with other cars around. I'm also surprised you didn't punt anyway. I know I would have punted some people racing on ice and not intentionally. lol

  • Yes, inverted field. Thankfully not upside down, but reversed finishing order from previous race. Slowest up front, fastest at the back.

Re: punting. They're very strict about a non-contact rule. Nobody wants to waste money repairing cars all the time. Any contact is reported by the corner marshals and then you have to explain your misbehaviour to the stewards.

  • Congrats!

  • Great driving. Wish the guys arround here were clean passers like you were. Great race!

  • Any Videos or photos of a #24, the car was built by I believe Jeff Marshall, someone els owns it now and comes down from canada and races in Rice Lake WI, I was privladge of driving it once, and man that car worked nice!

  • Car #24 is the one spun backwards to the inside at 1:54 into the clip. See more of #24 in its Jeff Gordon paint scheme at icerace dot net or in the other movie found under my username.

  • Does this work more like a newtonian rocket on these courses? i.e. reorient and blast power to move in a direction.

  • With normal rubber tires, no studs, on a frozen lake there's not a lot of grip, so even Chevettes have more than enough power. But it's all about trying to keep all four tires hooked up with traction. The less sliding the better. Any time the tires break traction, you're losing time.

  • I'm more interested in seeing the sport get rougher myself. If you have low power cars such as the Chevette banger racing seems like an interesting proposition.

  • ha ha! great driving. All the way from 12th to 1st!

  • Um, ahem, [cough]13th to 1st[/cough].

  • Wow,,I really enjoyed this !!! I'v been building motors for years and am a pretty good for fun driver .Those conditions were really slick,,I don't think people r giving you enough credit!

  • Thanks! Conditions were really tough, with the only traction found on a narrow line and deep slush covering very slick ice everywhere else. I would have been thrilled finishing 3rd behind the #54 car. He's really good. I'd never have got past anybody, if they hadn't all slipped wide at some point.

  • well dont have any videos atm n since there is no ice atm it will take som while but id love to post them in a few months when ive got the posibility to drive=)

  • no offense but I race myself n I keep the speed much higher n take the turns even better . im 15 lol, racing since i was about 8 or something

  • No offence taken. I wish I'd also started when I was 8.

The results worked out in my favour, but my driving really wasn't all that great in this race. It was more a case of everyone else making more mistakes than I did. The slushy conditions were very difficult that day.

Let's see some of your videos.

  • lol at the end he hit his mirror

  • Great race!

    what camera did you use?

  • best driver this guy noes how 2 drive

  • Fan-ta-stic!!! Pray for snow. What revs did u have 'er at!?! My ice racer is in progress over at Flickr under user #89. We've got hot chocolate, garage space, and a couch for you in NY!. Anytime. Thanks for the great footage.

  • great race 5 stars :D

  • Amazing Driving!!

  • I love my chevettes!

  • Five Star'd!! Nice driving. I would have pushed the car harder and ended up spinning out like the fellow in the second (?) lap.

Good job and it looks like great fun. Makes me want to do it too.

  • The guage cluster is probally worth more than the car...lol Great video!

  • I loved watching this. Almost makes me wish I were Canadian. Probably the only way I would wrench on a G.M. car too.

  • That is some kick ass hard charging race by that vette
