  • Beautiful film (and actress) :) Wonderfully done!

  • @AbiBerkarya this was a university film so there weren't many expenses apart from film stock.

  • hi lachlan 145, do you know "carnival of souls"? A motion picture from 1962 from Herk Harvey? It has nearly the same mood.

  • Shot on 16mm? I laughed when people kept saying this was an old timey effect, this is actual film. I have a bunch of Super 8mm film that needs to be used, but have always been saving it for a solid story. If this was all done by some young teens, I am impressed. shooting film is not only hard, but very expensive. So I give you props for that. as for Jason01wtf ever, what an ass hole.

  • i thought this was very nicely made

    it was great

    ^_^

  • great music , is it really a 12 year old?

  • He's 16 now, but yes.

  • cool short.

  • Att. Nicole Manns:

1.Nonsensical Plot: 3 armed theives targeting a video store in broad daylight. No.

2.Stylistic mess: Pointless slow motion, old timey effect applied to an obviously present day setting. Why?

3.You call that music? I don't know who Mark Ryan is, but he shouldn't be allowed near any equipment to do with making music.

4.This film is just a peice of garbage giving student film a bad name; it's wasteful.

5.This film was clearly made without a basic knowledge of cinema. Fuck you.

  • Your comments don't even deserve any sort of reply, except that you are a lowlife and you should have some respect for people you don't even know. And buddy, the music was done by a 12 year old - still gonna pick on him? You probably would.

  • If someone puts their work out in the public sphere they should be prepared to have it criticized. On the point of respect, its not like Ive shown absolutely none, evidenced by the fact that I bothered to comment. The fact that the music was done by a 12 year old doesn't make it any less poor. YouTube has many videos of talented musicians younger than 12, so yes, Ill still pick on him. The other thing is, Manns is the one responsible for its inclusion, hence the comment was addressed to her.

  • Mate nothing you say will convince anyone that you're being respectful. Saying 'fuck you' is clearly just being a stupid hater for no reason at all. If you don't like it, get over it and move on. Thanks.

  • I wasn't trying to convince anyone of it. In fact I'm quite happy to admit to being disrespectful, as my criticism requires it.

As for the 'fuck you' part, IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT GET OVER IT AND MOVE ON.

Taken seriously, my comment will make Manns a better director, so no, I won't just get over it and move on. Thanks.

  • Geezuz!

Are you haveing a bad day? A bad life?

  • Mate, this is really quite good.

    What are you complaining about?

  • Take xour own advice - if someone puts their "criticisms" out in the public sphere they should be prepared to have it criticized.

    Mate you're a dickhead!

  • 1. My day is fine, as is my life.

    2. What I was complaining about was written in a numbered list. If you can't read, get someone to read for you. Especially, if you plan on responding to something.

    3. Why wouldn't I be living by my own advice? Also, while one should be prepared to receive criticism, they should also be prepared to either accept the criticism or defend their ideas against it.

  • where are your videos again?...

oh, hmm, that's right, you don't have any.

    stfu

  • Let me ask you, are you a student of film?

    I am.

And although I agree.. the plot is pretty lame. The effects are pretty tacky. The music isn't amazing... it's still okay.

Just because one knows the basic principles of making cinema it doesn't mean it can be achieved.

    Making films is HARD.

Your comment was pretty disrespectfull and un-called for.

And I can bet that most of your favourite directors' first films were awful too.

If you never make bad stuff you will never learn.

  • 1. I am not.

    2. My assertion was that she didn't even have a grasp of basic principles.

    3. I have had first-hand experience of the difficulty of making film, but this aspect remains no excuse for producing rubbish.

    4. I have acknowledged that my comment was disrespectful, but there was really no nice, polite way to express what I wanted to.

  • 5. I have seen the first film's of some of my favourite director's and they're not awful. To me, to say something is awful is to say that it wasn't doing anything important or interesting (or trying to). N.B. My criticisms made no reference to the effects of a low budget.

    6. If 'bad stuff' is necessary for learning, by all means, make it. But, there's nothing to say this piece was a mere exercise. Even if it was why publish it? Maybe to see what kind of reception it gets I don't know...

  • "Rubbish" is in the eye of the beholder...

But fair enough hey,,, You have a point. I kinda like you now...

I dont know, I for one know I want to see what other things people are making, whether they be rubbish or brilliant. To see what the competition is.

    Also....

'there was really no nice, polite way to express what I wanted to'?

Try not putting 'fuck you' after your comments.. little tip there. People may respect your comments a bit more if you remain polite?

  • On the point of 'rubbish' being in the eye of the holder. The goodness of a piece of art is not contingent on a person's like or dislike of it, which is subjective. Goodness is objective whether it be moral or aesthetic. So what makes a piece of art good is the effect it has in the world and we can actually make some meaningful progress towards quantifying that.

  • E.g. Whether something serves to reinforce the status quo will usually be obvious. N.B. This means a work of art can be extremely good for a person (and therefore good.) even if they hate it (and vice versa). There's a great deal more to art than warm, tingly feelings and being brought to tears.

  • That was pretty good.

  • I'm criticising your criticism. It's YouTube, not Cannes. You don't have a single video uploaded, maybe you should demonstrate you incredible knowledge of cinema and out your money where your mouth is. Then we will each take it in turn to "constructively criticise you" or just tear your work apart point by point. Fuck you.

  • Re. davemolesty

    1. I agree with you that it's YouTube.

    2. I also agree with you that I don't have any videos uploaded.

    3. By your 'logic' we can ignore everything Roper and Ebert had to say, because they don't have any videos of their own uploaded on YouTube.

  • 4. I can't put my money where my mouth is because my mouth is wrapped firmly around your mother's cock.

    5. Maybe you can put your money where your mouth is. Then we will each take it in turn[s] to collectively ejaculate in your cash-stuffed mouth or just tear your arsehole apart inch by inch.

    And Fuck you. Cunt.
