Freeman's a smart guy - but his statement about "compatible equipment " is just silly. Radio waves are radio waves. There's no compatibility issue. What is silly is the idea that these signals would you be strong enough to detect or that we would be listening at just the right time to detect them. Maybe a 100 year span on an alien planet that radio waves of sufficient power would be leaving their planet.
