My favourite part of this scene is when Hermione kneels at "Adieu, my lord: I never wish'd to see you sorry; now I trust I shall." and holds out her hand to ask for help up and he just glares at her. I play Hermione right now and am going to take that idea (thought I want to perform it differently). You know... steal from the best and make it your own. :)
Hey,,,nice post......Is it difficult to download this? I need it to my university presentation of the Winter's Tale, and I wouldliketo blow everyone away here in colombia with a video of such good scenes of Shakespeare's play.........How can I download it?
@CitizenPurpelios A trained actor would never criticize in such a way, it is both disrespectful to other actors and the audience.
@gusmiller487 Shakespeare plays are open to a vast amount of interpretation and I think this one is a particularly good one. Sher is fantastic as Leontes, he commands the stage and throws his authority around, wonderful character.
In this production Mamillius and Perdita are played by the same actor. Mamillius is supposed to be about 8 ish and Perdita is 15 in Act 4. So they needed someone who is mid way in age.
way to much shouting,,, think about there circumstances... there social position... hermione wud never talk to her kind like that... i really dnt think u have understood the full context of this scene...just honesty
The shouting is Leontes - it's his first public accusation of Hermione. Remember he's king - and he's "ill in the head". Due to his mental illness [morbid jealousy] he feels the need to assert his authority - thus the shouting. Also, remember the courtiers know that hermione has not been an 'adul'tress', and they're shocked at the accusation.
As for hermione's talking - he's not just her kind, he's her husband. And she does NOT accuse him of being a villain "You my lord, do but mistake."
Thank you Shakespeareandmore for your untiring work in uploading all these wonderful shakespeare bits! You are the one who convinced me finally in buying the whole shakespeare bbc dvd collection! From which production is this video? Looks very interesting!
could you upload the whole play? Or at least a link to it where I could watch it online without having to sign up for any website?

Perhaps this is the finest production I have ever seen of Winter's Tale. It bring me to tears of admiration for the strength of the acting

What's going on with Hermione in this production? She sounds like she's been heavily drugged.

This version throws me off a little. I'm doing it at school as well as finding costumes for it and I'm stuck on Paulina's outfit for act 3 scene 2.

But that's the whole point! Leontes is so out of control that he's breaking all the codes of conduct. That's what makes drama surely?

@citicenkern - This isn't from the BBC Shakespeare collection. It's a filmed production of The Winter's Tale from 1998.
Hermione's voice annoys me.
