@gutochiele 1.No passengers were hurt. 2.The plane flew again after this landing = Good landing. Alpine skiers fall dont they?? they are trained for what they do! Race car drivers crashes,and they are trained for what they do! When conditions change that rapidly it isnt always easy to make a 100% smooth landing. This is most likely a widnshear,and not only a crosswind. Stop dissing the Flying Pilot here,because he got ALOT of passengers safe to the gate,even if it was a bumpy landing

Remember that this is a very heavy and big aircraft... when wind direction changes rapidly it is a very challenging part of a pilot's job to land.. Only the two pilots in the plane in this movie know how the conditions were,but at the look of the behavior of the plane at the end before touchdown,it is easy to see that this is much more than just a crosswind...

Talk about being caught by a severe crosswind in just the worse moment just before touch down. I think the pilot did a great job and Narita is a nightmare when it comes to heavy winds.

Too many people are dumb here, it's called cross wind that forced the pilot to pull off some maneuver. Tokyo-Narita airport has some serious cross winds daily, that also caused Fedex's MD-11 to crash. In fact, the pilot did a great job on landing.

@LMF5000 A hard landing inspection isn't that spectacular.

They can be done while the passengers are still or already inside.

That would be a fase 1, a fase 2 takes a little more time and needs hangartime as well but not a few days.

btw, KLM is a mayor Dutch airline and does maintenance for many airplanes.

They have different hangars for different type of planes.

Amazing landing tho, to be honest, I would have liked being in such a plane. as long as it goes well, that must be exciting

@OxNxW Two problems actually. For starters, the passengers on the plane must have been scared shitless thinking the plane's about to flip over or at least skid off the runway.

And secondly, KLM now has to perform an unscheduled maintenance check pertaining to hard landings. That means grounding the plane for a few days, taking several panels off, checking and replacing anything that's bent or damaged, and putting everything back together. And finally paying for a maintenance checkride.

It has to be KLM because I'm assuming they have the responsibility of keeping the plane airworthy (though they might outsource the work to a part-145 maintenance facility; I'm not sure who does their maintenance). Why do something? Because the plane isn't safe to fly before it's been checked. Something might've been weakened in this incident and might break next time the plane lands unless it is replaced before the plane flies again.

Worst landing, taking into consideration, the windshear.the captain could have done better.I would say his response timing was good negating the effect of windshear but mis matched his response on the control column.I guess few passengers would have enjoyed having their heads rocked sideways.

Hell yeah... I would've started preparing a note for my family saying goodbye if I was in that aircraft. It's a miracle that this plane didn't crash. People may often say Korean Air has bad pilot training, but this proves that Korean Air pilots are excellent at what they do.

Korean Airline's safety record speaks for itself. This was a near disaster caused by the Korean Instructor Pilot and a CASA Pilot Examiner on board. The Captain was an Expat Pilot that the Examiner was trying to fire and the Korean inappropriately attempted to take over control at the last second without communicating his intentions to the Captain. Two men were fighting over control.
