What an awesome vocal, Yvonne Fair cut her teeth backing James Brown before securing a solo contract with Motown. 'Somebody call the police, that woman down there is a doggone thief', I'm there in the church feeling this woman's pain. True SOUL.
i saw a drag queen, who purposely dressed really ugly, big teeth ect, she took the piss out of this, mouthed the words ect, i cant take it seriously now haha! madam farracina is the best!
So many memories with this song, but none stand out more than seeing my friend Ray at the Nickel bar on 72nd Street belting this anthem out. Ahhhh...good times.
I have not heard this song since the gorgeous Tess Tickle performed this at the legendary and sorely missed Albury Hotel, Sydney in 1998 i think it was. Love it!!
Years ago the excellent BBC disc jockey Johnnie Walker played this on his Radio One lunchtime show. I loved everything about it, the backing, Yvonne's voice and the great lyrics, and just had to buy a copy. I played this to my (now) ex wife, recently, and she still doesn't like it...I love it and always will...
O...M...G! Me too... I know how you feel EXACTLY. But I will NEVER, EVER interfere with his marraige now, or hid beautiful children whom I have got to know quite well :( I will NEVER marry now.
Oh no...that's tragic...for ALL of you : ( x Please don't let it control the rest of your life though...while your heart is aching for what may have been...you might miss what CAN be !! ; ) x
@M1SSM4R5 Honey, that's easy for him to say now. He's bunging you on. If he had truly had feelings for you, he would've at least tried to suss you out before he married her. The very fact that he married someone else says it all. He's telling you that now because it bolsters his ego to think of you pining away for him. He might be your best friend but he's not a real friend. Go and fall head over heels for someone who truly wants you, loves you, and wouldn't dream of hurting you like this.
Just witnessed my 1st love marrying someone else..... we both knew that we wanted each other but circumstance prevented us from being together.... this song rings so true..Dionne i wish u all the happiest int the world.. just wish it could of been us xxx great song BTW
this was played at my close friends wife's funeral on Tuesday... my friend has cancer and couldnt help but shed tears for them both... never really heard this track from start to finish but... Brilliant... god bless you Sue and Terry x
OMG! I can't believe I've found this! Absolutely top drawer, and an absolute classic, timeless tune. Yvonne must have been pissed off with some guy in her lifetime, the way she so fiercely sing's this tune, you can tell she mean's every word!!! That guy walking down the aisle must have been shitting himself!! and to have the cheek to "Turn to her and smile" I'd have been heading for the back door!! Great post LOL
I saw Yvonne Fair live way bcak in the day--She opened for the Miracles at MIchigan State. She was JUST like her music. She stomped, and I mean stomped out a version of Edwin Starr's 25 MIles. The whole lp this came off of is great.
the very first time I went to a Gay bar a drag queen did this.........and I have loved it ever since! I met the drag queen later out of drag and he was HOT!!!!
WHOA !! This is the best out of the two Motown versions ! I like the way Yvonne Fair put all her emotion into this and her grolwing in angst . PURE SOUL !
