Wow, maybe 35 or 40 people in front of them, however how I would have wanted to be there, the true fans were there!!!, that's very respectfull from the bottom of my heart as "Cynic" fan!!!
@evelsteev Hey dude! not all of the Norwegian Metal fans are fan of Black Metal! and the Norwegians are not idiots or Satanic (some of them are maybe idiots or Satanic but not all of them!!!)
@evelsteev well that's a very ignorant statement seeing that i love black metal but i fuckin love Cynic and anything that Paul Masvidal puts out... Douche
@AggresivePerfector66 It was a joke, dude. RELAX. I was in Cynic, in 1987. Now you can tell everyone you called an ex-Cynic member a "douche." Hope you're proud.
@AggresivePerfector66 That's ok. I wasn't meant to be in the group, because I was broke, and I couldn't afford a P.A. system to sing for them. They were called "Seaweed" and then "Crypha" (short for "Apocrypha") they were contemplating "Asphyxia" when they decided to stay with "Cynic." They didn't come up with that name. It was a person named Mario Yunco. I think he came up with their first logo too, but I don't remember. Mario put out a fanzine called "Scrolls of Sickness."
They actually did have live vocals during the most recent tour, it was with a different line-up than in this video. Sadly, the most current line up is broken (again) due to the two members Robin and Tymon (Bass & Guitar/Vocals) living in the Netherlands
@FacetiousPalaver What would that have to do with it? I mean, I'm not sure I would know specifically, but didn't Robin and Tymon leave to start Exivious? I though Jason Gobel and Kriss Kringle played with them live, and Gobel did the backing vocals...
@DeanDimTheGreat Its actually just pre-recorded vocals from the dude who did them on the first album, Tony Teegarden. I dont think he was with them on this tour tho
While it might not be the biggest crowd ever....i still think it's awesome people would go see their concert.....hell sometimes i think they deserve to play in places like jazz clubs........they may be heavy and shit, but their just as skilled......
i sawww em at el rey theater & the crowd was very similar to this .. just standing around .. my theory is they understand that this is so mind blowing that you should just stare :]
@misanthrope8811 I think you nailed it. I was there for that show. I was smiling the whole time and couldn't get enough of "staring" at them. Incredible live! I'm anxious to see them perform again.
This video gives the idea that stage performance isnt just music. You can play great music, and make no mistakes, but it's not enough to do a great show. however, nice song, i like it :)
This would be such a perfect setting to see this band. A slight chill in the air, a light rain which is probably giving the air a crisp scent, doubled with the atmosphere provided by cynic which is just amazing. I saw them live in an old theater though, which was pretty cool as well.
So I viewed this live video to try and figure out the lyrics. Specificly after "Free me from an ego's falter" and "Freedom, and Reason shine through". I can't hear what Paul's saying in the vocoder and the lyrics online don't seem to be there/set up right.
ANYWAY that's when I discovered the fact that the ude who did the 2nd solo FUCKING RUINED IT. My WHOLE night is ruined because he Fd up that amazing outro. I would of been pissed if I saw that live.
Got to see them in Washington D.C. on Sunday the 8th of Aug. Had never seen them before and they were great. Very small place and they hung out after the show with the fans. Really, really cool guys!!! My buddies can die now. HAHAHA
Creo ke despues de 17 años de su primer lp Cynic sigue siendo una banda no muy comprendida por la comunidad metalera, y creo ke es por ke se rekiere un poco de inteligencia mas de la normal para poder disfrutar su musica... solo para almas elevadas.
I think Chuck Norris, Jesus, and the ghost of Chuck Schuldiner must've been playing a set on a different stage at this time during the festival, because otherwise I can't see why that crowd's so small.
@Maddolis The sad thing is, that brilliant music such as this gets so little exposure and recognition. The airwaves are inundated with utter crap. The masses become clueless, and have no point of reference on which to judge music. I consider Paul Masvidal to be a genius - and I don't throw that word around lightly. But, the cards are stacked against him, and it frustrates me. So many artists deserving attention, and getting none.
@hecbiz75 Yes, but I don't mean the crowd's small in comparison to a lady gaga concert, I mean it's small for a metal crowd. Cynic have a pretty massive following in the heavy metal subculture- and metalhead fans are loyal and don't switch favourite artists every 2 weeks, so I think they'd be happy where they are.
Sure, more recognition wouldn't hurt, but not to the level of mainstream radio airplay.
@hecbiz75 What bands like Cynic do have is an extremely loyal cult following, something that most mainstream "musicians" lack. In a few years, nobody will remember all the popular music at this time, but people like us will still be listening to Cynic and other amazing musicians like them. A few loyal fans are, imo, much better than a bunch of shallow ones.
@theberzerker0 I agree. Still, just a bit more exposure wouldn't hurt, methinks. The larger problem is the huge clueless masses. It creates a society in which true artistry is only enjoyed by small "cult" followings. But, the society at large is one big mass of gullible, clueless idiots. Oh, well.
@Pactoren They were pre-recorded for this show. The band member who did it on the album in 1993 chose not to do the reunion tour. They've since added another member who does them
@NaughtyDogRex paul is singing the lead robot vocals and the growling vocals seemed to be played as samples since the guy who originally did them left cynic back when they broke up
I'm so glad they're back! Saw them with BtBaM in Florida. I was mesmerized the entire time they played that I snapped out of this trance I was in as soon as the last chord was hit. I don't remember much but a few riffs from them that show, but I know it must have been awesome to have put me in a trance like that lol
they put meshuggah to shame when i seen them.totally dif style but damn these guys still rip after 15 yrs.i still like focus but this album is an evolved cynic and just wait for the new one

Who was the bassist, anyway? It doesn't look like it was Sean Malone.
