  • "fuck you play more!!"

  • this song touched my soul.

  • How have I never heard this band before?!

  • That is a depressingly small crowd for such a brilliant fucking band.

  • Paul's vocoder(I believe this is what he uses, correct me if I'm wrong) sounds off for some reason.

  • @glacier2win The vocal unit Paul uses has a vocoder but also harmonies, reverb, distortion, doubling, etc. It's called a TC Helicon VoiceLive 2.

  • i like senescu and his cheap guitar with GREATEST sound

  • "So how many of you guys bought Focus in Ninety-fff...three?" lol

  • Where the fuck is the rest of the crowd ? Why such a great band performs for 50 guys ?

  • Ha! That's a change, a singer of metal not screaming and swearing at their fans.

  • Is that a nazi? 0:32

  • its shame there is very few people watching them

  • How the hell is he tuning that guitar? xP

  • @Infin1tas Thats E standard mate...I believe.

  • Paul shld be in his late 40's ???

he still looks the same ...

  • @jaylasen1 Actually, I believe he's like 41 or something of the sort. But still, the man defies time lol.

  • I like how Paul is all peaceful and the crowd's all "WOOOOO!" XD this is so epic.

  • He's so pleasant.

  • Wow, maybe 35 or 40 people in front of them, however how I would have wanted to be there, the true fans were there!!!, that's very respectfull from the bottom of my heart as "Cynic" fan!!!

  • What is the name o Masvidal guitar? I want that model guys !

  • Chandler: Could music BE more progressive?

Joey: Totally dude, I didn't know Jake Gyllenhaal could play guitar as well.

  • Why are there so few watching a great band like this? What's going on?

  • Amzing!!!

  • great, i wish to see them >.<

  • .................

  • they need a way bigger crowd, they deserve it

  • @alexAENESIDEManders that's because all the idiot black metalers don't think this is Satanic enough. Ha ha!

  • @evelsteev Hey dude! not all of the Norwegian Metal fans are fan of Black Metal! and the Norwegians are not idiots or Satanic (some of them are maybe idiots or Satanic but not all of them!!!)

  • @666FinalBlackout I was kidding, relax.

  • @evelsteev I konw I know...

  • @evelsteev well that's a very ignorant statement seeing that i love black metal but i fuckin love Cynic and anything that Paul Masvidal puts out... Douche

  • @AggresivePerfector66 It was a joke, dude. RELAX. I was in Cynic, in 1987. Now you can tell everyone you called an ex-Cynic member a "douche." Hope you're proud.

  • @evelsteev ahaha the asshole side of me is proud, but now *I* feel like the douche. How could i call an ex-member of Cynic a douche?

but bro, were you really in Cynic in 87? that's before they even put anything out right?

  • @AggresivePerfector66 That's ok. I wasn't meant to be in the group, because I was broke, and I couldn't afford a P.A. system to sing for them. They were called "Seaweed" and then "Crypha" (short for "Apocrypha") they were contemplating "Asphyxia" when they decided to stay with "Cynic." They didn't come up with that name. It was a person named Mario Yunco. I think he came up with their first logo too, but I don't remember. Mario put out a fanzine called "Scrolls of Sickness."

  • Paul is doing those growls with his mind!

  • I didn't like the second guitarist at all.

  • 6:59 LOL :D

  • the second solo sucked!......its cause he was useing a jackson insted of a steinberger guitar

  • Sean Reinhart drumming, excellect..

  • That kid didn't nail the solo to well. Also who's doin the growls here>

  • I really like it, when the band talks to the audience and dont just screams some shit which nobody can understand

  • these guys NEED live vocals. the rock so hard, but they seem incomplete.

  • @jsteele07189

They actually did have live vocals during the most recent tour, it was with a different line-up than in this video. Sadly, the most current line up is broken (again) due to the two members Robin and Tymon (Bass & Guitar/Vocals) living in the Netherlands

  • @FacetiousPalaver dang Netherlands...

  • @FacetiousPalaver What would that have to do with it? I mean, I'm not sure I would know specifically, but didn't Robin and Tymon leave to start Exivious? I though Jason Gobel and Kriss Kringle played with them live, and Gobel did the backing vocals...

  • LOL the long haired kid around 2:24 it has the whole music set thingy going on xD

  • awesome song!

  • Who's doing the brutal vocals?

  • @DeanDimTheGreat A ghost.

  • @NitroAndDeathMetal :O fuck

  • @DeanDimTheGreat Its actually just pre-recorded vocals from the dude who did them on the first album, Tony Teegarden. I dont think he was with them on this tour tho

  • @NitroAndDeathMetal That's what I thougt,too. Anyway, I don't like the idea of playback,at all..

  • While it might not be the biggest crowd ever....i still think it's awesome people would go see their concert.....hell sometimes i think they deserve to play in places like jazz clubs........they may be heavy and shit, but their just as skilled......

  • i sawww em at el rey theater & the crowd was very similar to this .. just standing around .. my theory is they understand that this is so mind blowing that you should just stare :]

  • @misanthrope8811 I think you nailed it. I was there for that show. I was smiling the whole time and couldn't get enough of "staring" at them. Incredible live! I'm anxious to see them perform again.

  • wait, what?? there are fit girls that like cynic???? why was I not aware of this fact!!! 6:25 = yum :-)

  • oh, and the end solo is pretty fucking sweet as well :-P

  • that solo is perfect!!!!! not album perfect, but just sounds so damn awesome!!!! perfect sound!!

  • They deserve one hell of a crowd. What a waste...

  • jesus christ these guys are way the fuck ahead of their time

  • @Ioserbam And for this time too :)

  • Does anyone feel the need to listen to this band after eating mexican food?

  • dude from 2:25-2:29 did an air drum to air guitar, to air drum fill Ultra combo dance!!!!

all he needed was to end it with the Abbath Dance

  • @SuperTech8474 Hahahahaha.....

  • wtf is up with the double barrier? 7:31

  • I don't think the people are understanding what he is saying, or the norwegians in there speak english.

Well, I would travel to Norway just to see Cynic playing.

    Sorry for the bad english.

  • @WhatTheHellHaveIdone most Europeans know their english dude

  • @WhatTheHellHaveIdone Most norwegians speak very good english. They do understand, rest assured.

  • @Akira3441 Nice, Norway is a really nice place. Here in Brazil, most people don't understand english, even with this being teached in the schools.

  • @WhatTheHellHaveIdone Maybe things will improve in the future. Brazil is a great place regardless, I visited it and loved it.

  • what pedal are they using?

  • such a small crowd for such an awsome band

  • Their drummer kicks ass!

  • wtf is up with the small ass audience? there's probably only like, 40 people there.

  • 2:30 That guy headbangs like an asshole.....and actually it's not right to headbang in a Cynic concert....it doesn't fit the music!

  • @1234567890musclecar wow, looks like he was too into the music to be concerned with what conceited youtube viewers thought.

  • Paul Masvidal isn't human...the "vocoder" sound is his real voice..and there is no fucking chance a human could be this good at guitar

  • What's the name of the guy who replaced Jason ? He killed the solo...

  • @TrebleWizard

The guy of this video is David Senezcu. He was a momentary replacement.

  • what album is this from?

  • @SweetTsilence Focus

  • what the hell is that amount of crowd?!

  • who is doing the screaming?

  • @Carthy6

    someone spacial....

  • @Carthy6

It was a pre-recorded voice. At that moment Paul Masvidal (robotic Voices) hadn't enought budget to have a live member.

The pre-recorded voices did it the ex-Cynic Tony Teegarden.

  • This video gives the idea that stage performance isnt just music. You can play great music, and make no mistakes, but it's not enough to do a great show. however, nice song, i like it :)

  • 6:58 XD

  • lol "thank you for all 120 fans who showed up"

  • Jason Gobel's part at the end is so beautiful... Who is this guitar player, Tymon?

  • @jesterbass Santiago Dobles

  • @ArakoGW no way... do an image search for Santiago, you will see he is another person.

  • @P0WERHE4D i found out that Santiago was a member of the band in 06-07, but he was excluded from the tour, dunno who this guy is.

  • @P0WERHE4D Just found the guy, David Senescu

  • @ArakoGW ah yes I remember the name... they did the reunion with him and chris. thanks for finding out.

  • They are so honest and not fooling around... Top notch performance, they have worked on their material very much...

  • How many of you weren't even a year old in 93 lol

  • who sings?

  • Human is still better than cynic, though this song is still amazing.

  • @goestovalium11

Human is still better than cynic

    i lol'd

  • 8 people have to die.

  • He almost said 94 in the beginning haha. Ahhh who cares. Cynic is awesome!!!

  • LOL! The guy at 2:09 got slapped in the face by the other guy's long hair!

  • omg those few ppl are lucky to be there >.<

  • cmon i cant even hear the end solo

  • smallest audience I've ever seen

  • this is what happens when four jazz guys play some death metal.

  • @inthecommonmind im afraid that is kinda progressive ;D

  • the most unmetal metal band ever, and thats a huge compliment. LOVE THIS BAND!

  • This would be such a perfect setting to see this band. A slight chill in the air, a light rain which is probably giving the air a crisp scent, doubled with the atmosphere provided by cynic which is just amazing. I saw them live in an old theater though, which was pretty cool as well.

  • I love this song, I love cynic. Period

So I viewed this live video to try and figure out the lyrics. Specificly after "Free me from an ego's falter" and "Freedom, and Reason shine through". I can't hear what Paul's saying in the vocoder and the lyrics online don't seem to be there/set up right.

ANYWAY that's when I discovered the fact that the ude who did the 2nd solo FUCKING RUINED IT. My WHOLE night is ruined because he Fd up that amazing outro. I would of been pissed if I saw that live.

  • grandissimi cynic!!

    masvidal è un eroe!

  • those are all the people that came to see cynic.......weak

  • Norwegians, we envy you.

  • Got to see them in Washington D.C. on Sunday the 8th of Aug. Had never seen them before and they were great. Very small place and they hung out after the show with the fans. Really, really cool guys!!! My buddies can die now. HAHAHA

  • no habia nadie ahi...

  • I think Chuck Norris, Jesus, and the ghost of Chuck Schuldiner must've been playing a set on a different stage at this time during the festival, because otherwise I can't see why that crowd's so small.

  • @Maddolis assuming chuck is guitar what would Jesus & Chuck Norris play? I'm thinking keytar and drums respectively

  • @weekendlobotomist Hahahahah that'd be brilliant, I can picture it perfectly.

  • Jesus is the popular guy in the band who really doesn't do anything considering Chuck can program drums and shred the shit out of guitar.

  • @Maddolis The sad thing is, that brilliant music such as this gets so little exposure and recognition. The airwaves are inundated with utter crap. The masses become clueless, and have no point of reference on which to judge music. I consider Paul Masvidal to be a genius - and I don't throw that word around lightly. But, the cards are stacked against him, and it frustrates me. So many artists deserving attention, and getting none.

  • @hecbiz75 Yes, but I don't mean the crowd's small in comparison to a lady gaga concert, I mean it's small for a metal crowd. Cynic have a pretty massive following in the heavy metal subculture- and metalhead fans are loyal and don't switch favourite artists every 2 weeks, so I think they'd be happy where they are.

Sure, more recognition wouldn't hurt, but not to the level of mainstream radio airplay.

  • @hecbiz75 What bands like Cynic do have is an extremely loyal cult following, something that most mainstream "musicians" lack. In a few years, nobody will remember all the popular music at this time, but people like us will still be listening to Cynic and other amazing musicians like them. A few loyal fans are, imo, much better than a bunch of shallow ones.

  • @theberzerker0 I agree. Still, just a bit more exposure wouldn't hurt, methinks. The larger problem is the huge clueless masses. It creates a society in which true artistry is only enjoyed by small "cult" followings. But, the society at large is one big mass of gullible, clueless idiots. Oh, well.

  • @Maddolis

Cynic is above a lot of peoples heads

  • @TimWaterson Yup, they're up on a stage.

Heheh nah I know what you mean, and agree.

  • @Maddolis

No wonder. It's Norway. We suck.

  • No, they're in a farmer's back yard. Chuck Norris, Jesus, and ghost of Chuck were in the front.

  • Went to Cynic's 2010 US tour 1st concert in LA last night. Amazing. You really appreciate how good these guys are when you see them perform live.

  • 2:26 - True fan.

  • Only nine more days until they're coming to Chicago...

  • CYNIC STARTS US HEADLINE TOUR JULY 22nd, 2010!!!!

  • paul looks so depressed.

  • their frontman is so... cynic. ahah

  • 6:22 my kind of girls...

  • Huge stage, great band, NO crowd...

  • IS that Paul Masvidal from Death? I recognize headless guiar!

  • @necroshyha yes sir

  • lol @ the smoke xD

  • Their playing "Focus" in it's entirety in their first U.S.(reformed) show!! Just bought me ticket

  • It's cool because he actually speaks to the crowd like a normal person and he doesn't believe that he is a dark over-lord or something.

  • @GourmetGoblinz because he's gay X-D

  • underrated

  • Seeing them live in August. :]

  • can you imagine, paul wrote these songs when he was about 18

  • @Vitaminnn07 wow seriously? even the more brilliance!

  • @makemebad35 Holy shit you listen to Cynic? I was subscribed to you already; respect level just got way higher from me. :)

  • Comment removed

  • There should be way more people that listen to Cynic.

  • amazing album closer:)

this was awesome back when i saw them at rock city(Nov 22nd,2008)-support for opeth.

  • whos making the growls? o.O

  • @Pactoren They were pre-recorded for this show. The band member who did it on the album in 1993 chose not to do the reunion tour. They've since added another member who does them

  • @Pactoren No one is, they recorded it, that's what you hear.

  • 2:56. that crowd is fucking pathetic.

  • Who sing the gutural ? I think is better without lyric voice.. but Not sound bad. I like to.

  • @dfal93 it was a recording

  • this is going on my mixtape called boner jams 07

  • Wow..hes sooo chilled out 0.o

  • @BotchUpAndDie Was just about to say that lol

  • dang there is not even 100 people there! what an insult!

  • no mames, no hay nada de gente, que no conocen a cynic en noruega?

  • Paul seems like such a chill guy.

  • good song but I prefer the sound of WOA 2008

  • cynic is all musical knowledge and soul such a gift...

TYPE killing4freedom and enjoy DEath Metal political Gore

  • who is singing??? no one!!

  • @NaughtyDogRex paul is singing the lead robot vocals and the growling vocals seemed to be played as samples since the guy who originally did them left cynic back when they broke up

  • @poryon2 damn that sucks I didn't know that he still wasn't touring with them. the other dude should come back.

  • love this song. Cynic rules foreva!!!

  • Paul totally doesn't seem like a metal guy but fuck can he shred

  • 8 people disliked this video.i bet they love techno or similar bullshit that they call music

  • love that 2:32 air guitar combined with air drums.

  • I'm so glad they're back! Saw them with BtBaM in Florida. I was mesmerized the entire time they played that I snapped out of this trance I was in as soon as the last chord was hit. I don't remember much but a few riffs from them that show, but I know it must have been awesome to have put me in a trance like that lol

  • they put meshuggah to shame when i seen them.totally dif style but damn these guys still rip after 15 yrs.i still like focus but this album is an evolved cynic and just wait for the new one

  • Who was the bassist, anyway? It doesn't look like it was Sean Malone.
