  • This is not ROMANI dance, its sort of bellydance, Maybe Gwhazee dance but no Rom.. And its not Rom music either its arabic. And roms dont dance with hips, but more of foot work and skirt work, and 0- 5% hip movement....

  • I don't know about Rom dance, but these are a bunch of pregnant or menstruating women easing hips and belly for better birth or ease of menstrual pain right? Just seems odd to me that they are doing it like show girls...but what do I know...

  • Qu'importe l'origine ou la couleur, on note que ces femmes prennent du plaisir à danser et c'est très beau. La dame en bleu à gauche maîtrise parfaitement la gestuelle , c'est très gracieux.

  • WHAT! Gypsy women DONT dance like prostitutes! kekka romany,is gorja suhm

  • This isn't Romany dance. This is pseudo-belly dancing.

  • lesleyhenriquez - I am not Roma, but it doesn't take a genetic relationship to recognize your ignorance, stupidity, nastiness and ugliness. Your disgusting, uneducated and clueless comments say nothing about Roma, but plenty about lesleyhenriquez.

  • The Egyptians, Babylonian, Persian, Greek, Roman & Arab empires have had constant trading and contact with India. This dancing is more Middle Eastern or North African and is nothing like real Romani dance. Half naked women with hands raised dancing in what looks like belly dancing are seen way back on ancient Egyptian walls. If there are any similarities between these Middle Eastern / North African dances and Romani dances (i.e. raised arms) it is via India and not through any direct connection.

  • hey gori means pale skin in Hindi too....is there a language similarity between Hindi and romani?

  • @sujoybtc Romani is similar to modern day Rajasthani with a bit of Panjabi influence. There is also additional words from Persian, Greek, Armenian & Europe due to their stay out of India but a very large percent of the words and the grammar and structure etc is of an older Rajasthani / Panjabi / Sanskrit.

  • It's romantic dance show. Usually these dances are a compilation of different styles and adapted for workshop participants. Just see it as entertainment. The costumes are nice for show. But indeed Romani ladies dress more chique. As to belly movement. That's part of many Romani dances, especially Turkish. But it's the way you do it ... stylish, sensual but not frivolous and not looking a man in the eyes and so on.

  • And as to colour, not all Romnja are dark and not all 'goriya' are white.:) But of course romantic films and shows can give an incorrect view of a culture. So it's important to be careful and have respect for everybody. Good luck to all!

  • Okay, I'm ignorant of most Romani things, but last time I checked, the hands over the head and palms pressed together was Indian or at least Indian influenced and this would be Turkish style belly dancing..

  • The hand movements and gestures are not Turkish Romani, maybe they are Balkan?

  • all in all these dances and "ethnic" dress is far from being anything Romani hence those of Romani blood finding the many posted white western women dance class videos offensive. The dances are nice but its the fact they r incorrectly selling it as Rom / Romani / Gypsy. Especially belly dancing.

It is fact that traditional Romani women wouldn't show midriff and gyrate there bellies in such as seductive looking dance. In the old ways it would call it Makhadi (impure) and she would be caste out.

  • Whereas Romani is a Rajasthani / Panjabi regional originating Hindustani language the Domaki is not and also the Domaki language comes from a much older period in Indian history as it uses the much earlier Indian three genders. Romani uses two gender which shows they left after 1000ad. Romani also uses the Rajasthani masculine 'o' at the end if its words whereas Domaki uses the normal Hindustani masculine 'a'.

  • Ghorbat is from the Arab word meaning 'outsider'. The Ghorbatti are Domaki / (Dormari / Domba / Dombi). Both Domaki & Romani originate from India but the Domaki left a few hundred years previous and it is recorded in history and also by themselves that they were taken into the Persian empire as musicians. Domaki are now spread throughout the Islamic empire.

  • It can't be the same root because "gh" is a different letter (ghayn) than the hard "g" which is a corruption of (qaf), and the "t" sound is the heavy "t" which makes it part of the root. It is a quad root (q-r-b-T) which means that it isprobably of Persian or other non-Arabic root. Doesn't mean outsider but is evidence that what you say about Persian roots is true.

  • type in " Serbianka - Romano Khelipe " which is Romani for Serbian - Romani dance. Then type is Joaquin Cortes. Here we see two forms of Romani dance from to ends of Europe who have been separated for hundreds of years yet share the same tap dance and raised arms and clapping. For the record Joaquin Cortes is a famous Romani dancer from Spain who now acts as an ambassador for the Romani people in his country.

  • Tsigno)He was but his nephew has overtaken him & the style of dance he does is Flamingo Yes Giganos in oragin but a certain style of dance, in fact The National Dance of Spain! I thought Ghorbat from Arabic ya Ghabet =Prostatute. I think that is what danceswithblades is trying to get accross I find this clip pleasent & unoffencive

  • @Danceswithblades: ...and no Romani women do not belly dance as their own dance. Romani have their own unique dance style. obviously dances change depending on which Romani branch they are from but all Romani share the same similar traits of clapping, raised arms and tap dance etc. All Romani also share the common fact that they all use the guitar. Belly dance is a North African / Middle Eastern dance and I'm sure people living there of all backgrounds may dance the local dances.

  • Its still not Romani dancing and it isn't the way our daughters dress so why in the world would someone disrespectfully call it "ROM Dance"?!! Its all in the title. Change the title not to offend or caste inaccuracies and everyone can appreciate the clip.

  • @Tsigano: I have to disagree with you. Your personal culture may be very strict but the reality is that many Rroma women do belly dance socially. They do not wear revealing clothing or perform it in front of men. I lived in the villages of northern Syria where the Rroma call themselves Gurbat, and saw with my own eyes.

  • @danceswithblades so you are a gypsy? I think u dont know what is ,,to be a gypsy,,.

  • @Ispy: why would I claim to be a gypsy? I said I'm Irish and that gypsy people are not the only people who can lay claim to pain and suffering. How can you or I claim that we are part of our ancestors' suffering when we are lounging in front of computers enjoying ourselves? But we don't get mad when people imitate us badly, we are mildly amused and flattered.

  • @Danceswithblades: The Gurbat r not Romani / Rromane (Rroma r just 1 branch of Rromane) but they are Domari. The Domari are mostly throughout Islamic lands and spread from Persian. It was once suggested by certain scholars that they were related to Romani but all theories have since been disproved. All evidence shows that the Romani left India after 1000ad and arrived in2 Greek & Armenian speaking Asia Minor b4 then entering into Europe which is where the Romani are spread throughout and from.

  • @Tsigano: that is very interesting. Most people do not know this and it is good for you to share this info. Are the people that we call "travellers" in Ireland Romani or are they a different ethnicity?

  • They are a different ethnicity called "Pavee". They do not originate from India or speak the Indian originating Romani language but they originate from Ireland and speak a Gaelic originating language called Shelta. Notice how many are fair with blue eyes and blonde or ginger hair.

  • dancewithblaades)I think Travellers got there name from having to "up sticks" In Irland The Irish were treated as the underdog by the English They would settle & then they would lose their land again, so they took to a life on the Road after the Potato Famin rather than Emigrate to America. It was Dramatised about 5years ago on British TV. Called "The Hanging Gale" The Irish Scouse Brothers were in it but cant think of their name. thats were the Tinkers came from also.

  • I love seeing women together dancing.

It is the invocation of the goddess within us all. Beautiful!

  • Hey, don't get mad... people all over the world are fascinated by gyspy and try to immitate or dance or dress like gypsy, but not because they want to offend... I don't see anybody dressing here like "harlot"... be Proud that u are noticed and honored....

  • It is because of Goriya (non-Romani women. Gori literally means "pale skin") that people wrongly get the impression our women dress like harlots and do seductive dancing towards others. Please give us respect. this is not Romani dancing or dress sense. We are actually very strict over these things.

  • @Tsigano Ever looked at the amount of gypsie hookers in Slovakia, Romania, the Netherlands(legal window prostitution) and the Italian streets?

Google Bianco Bloom for a very tame example. And yes, she does do escort.

  • @lesleyhenriquez For a woman to do this sort of act within the Romani community would cause a lot of problems for her and her family. Don't talk lies

  • @Tsigano Lies? Go check.

  • @lesleyhenriquez I did and not surprisingly nothing came up which confirms exactly what I have said. Every race / culture on the planet have their unique let downs. The fact nothing is coming up when searching confirms exactly what I have said all along.

  • @Tsigano "Nothing cam up" oh yes it did. You cant google.

  • @lesleyhenriquez Not only do you lie but you also can't spell

  • @Tsigano Trying to put someone off because of a typo.

    gallery.guide-bulgaria(dot)com/SW/Sofia-city/Stolichna/Sofia/Gallery.aspx?6866=Photo_City_of_Sofia

    watch?v=TXJctHWqe6Q

    Still no gypsy hookers?

    There's boatloads.

  • @lesleyhenriquez I just tried it and it still doesn't come up. Even if it did. You are still clutching a straws. How is this boat loads. Truth is that you are just a cheap fool trying to make up muck. Anyone who searches honestly will find Romani by tradition are strict about the lifestyle of their women. You've only got to get any book written by a true Rom about Romani life to find this out.

Why would you try to slander and lie? You've gone way off track. Try learning the truth about us.

  • @Tsigano Did you look at the link? Are you this thick? Can you not use a computer? Anybody here can, and they all saw.

    Stop denying it.

You deserve the oven, all of you.

  • @lesleyhenriquez ur a fool. U've steered this away from the dancing to talk rubbish. Check any race and they all have wrong-ens. Check the Romani and one thing we are very strict against within our culture is this stupidity u are trying hard to disprove us over (with one women, lol). I used your link changing the (dot) for a . and no it didn't work.. You are a slanderous sad individual. You try hard to blemish us using one simple silly site. Please grow up and become someone with a maturity.

  • @Tsigano Works for me.

Never has there been such lowlifes and parasites as the gypsies, with their whoring women everywhere, stealing kids and thieving men violent rapist men.

Admit it, you are a lowlife and the computer you have has been paid for by welfare you received though fraud or begging and conning.

  • @lesleyhenriquez Now you are showing everyone what you really are. I noticed it on the "deserve the oven" bit of the previous thread. You have obviously surfed through and probably have some inner nazi or racism fueled belief and have to make up nonsense anti-"Gypsy" remarks as an attempt to slander. Please grow up as people have heard it all before for hundreds of years. This is the modern days where people are open to real facts over old age racist views. try mature non-bias research on us.

  • @Tsigano It is because of this age old racist misrepresentations of the Gypsy (Romani) people that real Romani get offended at Goriya try to represent us when they clearly do not actually know anything about us. We do not dress and dance like some Middle Eastern caravan of a mid riff showing Harlots gyrating their hips.

We have our own dress and dances that root from Sanskrit Indian (Arya) which was all about very strict laws on Wujho (purity / cleanliness) & Makado (uncleanliness / defiled)

  • @Tsigano - I loved your reply and know nothing of Rom other than the typical mistrust and stereotypes that exist (some of my own included). But you must understand, mysterious people are open to interpretation by absolutely anyone. You are in a position to teach the other side of truth, where can a person learn more about Romani people?

  • @lesleyhenriquez don't be such an immature fool. I think you prove to the world who is the idiot here, lol

  • @Tsigano You a funny guy. You go into the gaschamber last.

  • Comment removed

  • @lesleyhenriquez DFon't laugh, they also gassed retards, disabled and homosexuals as well. That be you on all three strikes, lol.

If you really think Hitler was an idol then my grandfather fought the Nazis under Montgomery in North Africa. He won!!!, lol

  • @Tsigano Gypsies dont fight shit. They sit in a corner crying or gang up with 30 on 1 with knives and leap at you from the dark. They gassed those that are a huge drain on the system, even better.

  • @lesleyhenriquez you are so boring it is unbelievable.....Zzzz. Like anyone actually thinks you are of any quality, lol Look at the ignorance of your childish rants. Hardly a person to take any real notice of. Just a childish mentality

  • @Tsigano goriya means pale skin in hindi too

  • @Tsigano

I know! I have profound respect. Your culture and dance, I love it! It speaks to my soul.

  • @Tsigano Hi, I'm trying to research on the Romani for a Gypsy character dancing around my head. Can you help me find videos, and references to how a Romani woman would look like, so I don't end up with a character that's a huge stereotype?

  • @Celticswynd try typing in Romani gili in the search. This is Romani for "Romani song". That should hopefully come up with Romani made vids. Traditionally Romani chaiya (girls) certainly wouldn't show their midriff (or legs for that matter) & certainly wouldn't b allowed to girate their hips in what looks like a seductive dance as it would be seen as being v. impolite & maxado (unclean / defiled). Romani clap, step & raise arms. women sometime hold the base of their skirt. men clap hands on legs

  • @Tsigano also Romani click fingers as they dance. Flamenco is a branch of Romani dance in Spain. It uses all the Romani moves, tap dance, hand raises with clapping, the skirts are the same. It also uses the 12 beat which comes all the way from India which proves it is definitely Romani origin. Romani of Spain came down from Flemish lands of Holland & Belgium which some say could be a source for the word "flamenco". Records show when Romani arrived in Spain they were prized for their music

  • @Tsigano I was thinking that this looked more like Middle Eastern belly dancing than anything I would think a well respecting Gypsy would dance. (And bellydancing was originally not preformed in public.)

  • kava stili purano si!!!___me mamiaci mami kelola cagjia!!!___hahaha

  • cadaua si danso romano originalo. con pendea ca nai romano?. who says its not gypsy dance. is stupid. this is the original gypsy dance my friends. for more than 20 generations a go/.

  • Hmm I see nothing Slavic or Turkish Rom in this dance. It is pretty generic Egyptian bellydance inspired movements. The Rom style dance in the Balkans, Eastern Europe and Turkey has little to do with Egyptian bellydance, some similar movements, but executed completely differently. with very unique spice, and at least 50 or 60% completely different movements you would never see in Arab women's dance.

It still is a nice dance, but more Arab mainstream dance presented as Rom dance.

  • Are you dreaming? This is not gypsy dance neither gypsy music. Wake up my little.

  • @Ispyyourmind1 damn it,i wanna see some gypsys dance, but everyone says the other isnt a real gypsy...point me in the right direction please

  • @USMCrecruitOORAH I can recommend Sophie Armoza - Turkish Roman (Gypsy) - Roman H...by bellysophie

  • bad quality

  • This is seriuosly not a romani dance...

  • \\\\\chucar quelen bax sastipe romale te aven bastale bjs milton brasillllllllll

  • I agree this is not a Romani dance. Why do white non-Romani people try a re-create our heritage with their twice-a-week evening class escapisms of trying to be something their not and know no first hand experience of??!!

  • lol true

  • I m white rom descendant and this people is teaching to the world some of our culture i think is wonderful

  • Get real. There are no white Roms, only those that think by having a speck of Romani blood through a grandparent or similar makes you a Rom???!!!. If u were of true Romani heritage raised with real Romani ways then u'd know that no true Romane dance like this!!

  • You are absolutely right! What is white rom?

If some white face want to call gypsy, first must to have a gypsy blood, then must to live with our pain, sufferance and sorrows.

By the way this is not gypsy music, this is not gypsy dance and this people are not gypsies.

  • do you know any sites that have real romany dancing on? I'd love to see it more.. so far I have only found one video on here.. I love the style.. so beautiful!

  • try typing in the Romani language. "romano khelipe" which is Romani for Romani dance. That or flamenco is originally mostly of Romani origin. Romani dancing is all about tap dance style foot work, raising of arms and clapping. Nothing like Middle Eastern / North African belly dance as many Goriya try hard to wrongly portray.

  • @Ispyyourmind1: I'm Irish and if you know your history you know that we wrote the book on pain & suffering. But now we have wealth and leisure for computers and internet. We need to use civil discourse and not remarks about skin color or ethnicity to gain respect and understanding of our cultures. BTW, Elvis was 1/4 Rom, he was white, and he changed the face of music in the 20th century.

  • Just looked at ur profile. Do u know anything about Romani law?? Wujho & Marime / makadi? Then how come u belly dance if u r Romani? What do ur familia say about this? Whats more it isn't "Rom descent" as Rom means 'husband'. Romani (f), Romano (m) Romane (p)

  • @Tsigano . I think she is making it up, just like her use of disconnected Arabic letters going in the wrong direction, and using "Arabic" titles to her videos that translate roughly as "harlot beautiful" and "harlot pretty". They aren't even spelled right! LMAO!

  • would u prefer to ignore us and hate us instead of trying to copy us..let them do what they like...in this way non romani people can get understand romani culture...am i right?

  • Then let them do it correctly. It is due to misrepresented romantisms that we have a bad name from some people in the first place. We made the nails that killed Christ (?! we was still in India when this happened, lol), Our daughters dress like harlots and dance crudley (we r actually very strict about the way we present ourselves and our youth's relationships). Every pikey (non-Romani traveller) brings us a bad name as people can't tell the difference.

  • Hermosa danza, gracias por el videoo!!

  • Hello,

could you answer me a question, please?

You speak Romani, do you understand Indian languages like Punjabi or Hindi?

  • I speak Romani and I also speak basic Panjabi (acha - mino bhorl panjabi tordi tordi. Tussi bhorl panjabi suckdeh?). I also have very basic understanding of similar languages such as Hindi & Rajasthani etc.

  • Wild, where you from...my family only spek Rromani and English and swear words from bout 5 other countrys...and bout this video WTF...luv the haus frau set

  • I JUST heared abouth the Aryan story.

  • This IS a Rom dance. Don't forget that the Rom are Ino-Aryan and though it sounds Turkish, the Rom have similar rithm. I heard the same song (with little difference ) in the 70s in the Rom village I grew up in Romania.

  • you're so graceful! i love this.
