Real stories, real people? Lol.. Fortunately it's canceled ! It was a shame to Stargate Franchise and the genre, like those new so called sci-fi shows. Sci-fi fans don't care about characters' real life struggles neither do I. We just want to watch fiction, contains science elements, some action and humor. Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis are perfect examples of that.
How can a failed rip off be something more? And in that case, I'm a philistine sci-fi fan but to me you are the philistine one if you really enjoyed SGU. So, it goes on, neither of us can win but everyone must see the fact that is, SG franchise lived for 14 years with SG-1 and Atlantis then SGU killed it in a year.
@Klejas Action and humour and cheap and easy, that's why SG-1 and Atlantis lasted so long. Intelligent sci-fi character drama is something more than that, something intellectual and artful, something too cultured for the philistines out there who want explosions and lulz.
@01000001011100100111 That would be a shame. I love SGU and i seriously hope there will be a third season. Did you see the last episode? I'm so excited about the mysteries Destiny is going to unravel.

i like SG-U One of my favourite episodes was that where they thought they would die because the Ship headed towards the sun and than the twist where the ship filled there energycells with that.
The second half of season is much more action packed and fast

That said, it wont be like SGA(thankfully) so we can expect real thrilling events and first half of SGU already had some of the most atmospheric and thrilling scenes in stargate history
SGU is Awesome...the twists and plots are killing me lol! i cant belive young left rush to die on that barren planet OMG! i hope he comes back.. the writers better keep him alive.. either let him make his way to the ship or. some how he finds his way to earth then welcomes young when he next uses the stones. lol that would be epic!

Actually, no, Atlantis first season was a breed apart from SG-1 when it began...much darker, edgier, sort of like Universe, then it suddenly started emulating SG-1's cheesy wild west antics, insulted people's intelligence as well as it's own, and generally stopped being unique and different. Since you like the cheesy shit, you thought it was an "improvement". It wasnt. All the 'Gate series should be different consistently, not just different for a year of two

Eh Hem! As a FORMER trekkie I must point out that Voyager was still in the Milky Way, but simply at the far end of the Delta quadrant. They were a mere 80,000 light years from the Alpha Quadrant. In SGU they are quite literally BILLIONS of light years from home. Now that I've had my nerd spasm, yes I agree. The show is like that, but I still like it.

Personally, if they had gone with another clone of that show, as much as I love it, I really wouldn't have had any interest in it. This is a new take on the series. Granted, it has some BSG aspects that I could do without, but the overall plot is quite good. If you're so stuck in the past that you can't range yourself a bit, then I feel sorry for you.
Yeah I would agree but how long can you keep fighing the wraith and still keep the story intresting. Not doggin Atlantis but they were running out of bad guys to kill although I did hear roumors about an Atlantis Movie comeing out who knows.
Hmmm...looks like expensive CG. I'll give it a shot. But still, without Richard Dean Anderson or Teal'c it's going to have to do a lot to impress people who liked it in the good ol' days.
I'll give this show a chance but I don't have high hopes for it. Didn't really care for Atlantis after a while I mean the first season was good but then it just got weird. In my opinion once Daniel ascended SG-1 kinda started going downhill and then when they promoted O'Neil thats when it finally died cause after they brought in Ben Browder and I forget the woman's name it just wasn't SG-1 anymore...I and my friends started calling it Farscape SG-1
What are they going to be fighting against!? i wonder if they are introduce a new race of bad guys... hmm. and what blasted the base they lived in before they found the ship?!!? so many questions... lol
There won't be some sort of "main big bad". Yes there will be some hostile alien-looking alien species, but the main "big bad" for those people is their own personalities.
Look at those former Zombie movie actors..i'll watch...plus lou diamond philips...people put him down alot but i think he is great at getting into character and giving it his all
i wonder if they would find any remains of ancients on the ship.... would be creepy but dramatic... and will they develop any friendship or a alliance with any people? if there is people? when i say people i mean "human" and will there be aliens??? will they find any technologically advanced alliance? those are all quistions im looking forward to get answers for. looks like ill just have to watch each episode? by the way...? any idea what days and times it will be on?
I think SG1 will always be the best for me. Its like the William Shatner StarTrek TOS. Later versions are good, but the original will always be the best.
Top Actors with great character and chemistry are what makes a show great, more than FX.
Hey that one guy is from the "Wolk Lake" series, I wondered which series they would put him in next; SGU looks like it is going to be really good though nothing compares to SG1...
why are you judging them before the show/series is out? what the heck is wrong with your brains?!?!?! it is not out, wait till it is, then watch then judge!
Stargate Universe will be set on the Ancient ship Destiny, which was part of an Ancient experiment to seed the galaxies with Stargates millions of years ago
man, i still cant get what the story is. so a group of people from stargate command went through a stargate, landed on a ship that was travel space, and they cant get back to earth? am i right? guess just gona have to wait and find out. this series looks way more mature then previous. looks awesom! with this show and caprica coming soon, oh man is this gona be fun!
Looks interesting, I imagine that as long as it's the same writers from the other stargate series' it should be great. *crosses fingers* I'm going to continue thinking positive!
All i can say is that each SG series has to be Different cause people would be saying that "OMG they did this in that series and they just changed the location or they did it with different characters" All i can say is that i am leaving my judgement till i see the 1st few ep.
Cry all you like.. I didn't like SG1 when it first aired and Atlantis I did the same.. But they grew on me as the seasons passed. But this is the first time I'm looking forward to another spin-off of SG.
BGS was awsom but it got slow sometimes.. mostly in middle of seasons 1-5 or so.. not sure which one.. but i agree ending could have been better but i guess.. in a sense if u look at the ending at a philosophical level it has a very powerful point but if u just wanna have a great mind blowing ending then the actual ending sucked bad...
Remember when DS9 came out? Everyone was talking about how it wasn't going to be as good as TNG and it would just be a rip off of Babylon 5. Well DS9 was well liked and I'm sure this will be too despite people thinking it will be like BSG.
I'm a hardcore SG fan. More so for SG-1 than Atlantis, but I loved both! You named an episode, and I could...still can...give you a play-by-play of the whole thing. That said, I have some SERIOUS reservations about this new series. It looks a lot like BSG, which I didn't really care for. If this new series turns out to be like that, I don't think I'll tune in anymore. I hope that's not the case though. Obviously, I'll watch 6 or more episodes before passing any crucial judgment.
If its gonna resemble BSG at least in some parts its gonna be awesome, considering SG is more militaristic then just simple adventure adding more drama will make it better... but there is one thing im hoping to see SGU is the beautiful space battle scenes like in BSG, god SG sometimes has such dull battles, hope this one will be different...
All I wanted from this series is GUNS, STARGATE, BIG SHIPS AND A BIG ENEMY. It has one thing a stargate. I'm sorry but this looks like a big let down from the adventure action packed sg1 and sga. I think the only way to save this show is if they introduce time travel or different dimensions. That would be freaking awesome.
It will be a character drama. Less based on series bad guys and more about survival on the ship, ansd as far as I understand the exploration will still be a big part of the show too.
Nice to see Stargate is getting serious again. The series was fun but disappointing in comparison to how serious and dark the original movie was. High hopes for this one for sure.
Not necessarily a bad thing. As long as they dont fuck up the ending like they did with BSG -.- (hopefully, we'll have to wait a long time for any endings ... ^^)
It wasn't bad, but it left too many open questions. I mean ... just take all the "You're the Harbinger of death, Kara Thrace"- stuff. I mean ... where was that ever resolved? She just disappeared while Lee wasn't looking. That's what I meant with fucked up .... ^^
It'd be pretty cool if SGU was a bit like BSG though. There's no good in just copying the old SG series, although some people seem to want exactly that oO
omg i know, i was mad about that harbinger of death thing, it didnt go anywhere with that.
But yea, i think bsg has a better look and feel than the regular stargates, i hope universe has kinda the same thing going but with obviously their own plots
MarwinRott, BSG had the best ending of all the sci-fi serials ive watched and its a lot...
All stargate endings were retarded, as well as endings of other shows like farscape for example.... Im just hoping that SGU will have BSG-like ending or better, it would be a disappointment if the series would turn out to be good but the ending would suck...
BSG had possibly the worst scifi ending ever conceived, the writers couldn't come up with clever resolutions for all the arcs they started so ended up using the worst explanation imaginable - 'God did it' I mean seriously? How pathetic.
Yea. Exactly. I mean, the ending would be good as just another episode, it wasn't bad in that sense, not at all. But the answer to all the open questions being "God" is just ridiculous, even for people who are religious (I'm excluding myself here). I liked the ending in general, and the idea with tmen landing on our earth 120000 years ago wasn't bad, but all the open or ridiculously answered questions were just pissing me off.
Yes they couldnt or didnt want to, but the ending is ending, i mean they landed on earth they started new civilization so on, their journey ended, and the mysteries with God are better left untouched, its for the viewer to think about, im not religious, im just saying that closing everything in the end would look to simple, better leave some mystery here and there... Cuz now we have something to speculate about, its more interesting then just saying, eh it ended.... )))
But what series said 'eh, it ended'? SG-1's story didn't end, hence the title of the finale, and Atlantis ended with lots to think about, I mean the city landed on Earth, there's loads to speculate about. The 'God did it' explanation could be used to wrap up any story imaginable, it takes no thought at all, and a complete cop out by the writers in my opinion.
No i dont want to see 'god did it' in SGU, but in BSG 'god' was kinda part of the show, not like stargate gods, but like god god, mysterious force or whatever... I do wanna see BSG-like ending and better ! And im not talking about 'gods', im talking about how it ended, their journey ended, they found earth so on... In SGA the ending sucked, the final battle was cheap and lame, and now Atlantis is on earth, they could already make Terran Empire with that tech... SG1 had even worse ending than SGA
It looks like a mix between Star Trek Voyager, Lost in Space, and the 2003 re-imagining of Battlestar Galactica. It better have the Stargate humor in it like SG-1 and Atlantis had and I hope it does a much better job than Atlantis did. However nothing will ever be good as SG-1, the original though.
Stargate should always be a sci-fi show that you can laugh at. In SG-1 they frequently made fun of the ridiculous stuff in sci-fi - and had a good story line.
I'm worried this show is going to take itself too seriously. In an effort to be "different" and "new" - I'm afraid they will lose what made Stargate special to begin with.
I have to say, I'm not in all honesty. He's a hideous, laboured actor. My only hope is some alien slug creature will devour him early on and spare us all. But I will tune in for the delicious Robert Carlyle. Now there's a chap who can act!
I'm a big fan of SG-1 but not really of Atlantis. I never got into to it as it never seemed as funny. If they're gonna do this they need someone as funny as O'Neill or maybe McKay, McKay was the only character who stood out to me to be honest due to his sarcastic, scared personaility. I hope it's not like Atlantis, because in that it was more serious than SG-1, The only Atlantis episode I really like was The Tap of Rodney or the one where a womens body was inside Rodney.
I am really interested to see what this new series will be like, though if I'm being honest I don't have very high hopes. I am a big fan of SG1 and Atlantis. They may have been cliche, but they were funny and exciting. The characters had a military background so they took their missions seriously, and weren't conduction endless strings of affairs! Am I really supposed to be getting excited about something which according to this trailer holds no semblance to the original series?
Well they're in a pretty hostile environment, no food, no water etc, not to mention each other, and whatever creature they may run into when they explore through the Stargate looking for supplies. It's a pretty shitty state of affairs they're in all things considered ;P
ooki the reason why i liked SG1 was because it were not taking itself seriously (right up untill mitchell showed up) and OFC McGyver in space XD SrSly Jack was just awsome (as long as he were part of the team... as a general he were pathetic), SGA were awsome because of the McKay's complexes and again because it were not taking itelf seriously.... SGU looks like it grw over the head and is thinking too much of itself .(
Well they're stranded with no way of getting home with next to no supplies, there doesn't need to be an enemy trying to kill them for survival to be difficult.
Well there'll be enemies, but war won't be the focus of the series, staying alive will be. It'll be much more like 'Lost' for example, than BSG in that respect.
It premières October 2nd in the US, not sure about the UK, but I know Sky have bought the right to air it, and are supposed to be showing it not long after :)

Granted, it has some BSG aspects that I could do without, but the overall plot is quite good. If you're so stuck in the past that you can't range yourself a bit, then I feel sorry for you.

why did they cancel SGA? This looks good but they could have ekpt SGA while still having SGU on. They had SG1 and SGA on at the same time after all

Yeah I would agree but how long can you keep fighing the wraith and still keep the story intresting. Not doggin Atlantis but they were running out of bad guys to kill although I did hear roumors about an Atlantis Movie comeing out who knows.
Michaelwood187 2 years ago
Hmmm...looks like expensive CG. I'll give it a shot. But still, without Richard Dean Anderson or Teal'c it's going to have to do a lot to impress people who liked it in the good ol' days.
recliptix 2 years ago
I'll give this show a chance but I don't have high hopes for it. Didn't really care for Atlantis after a while I mean the first season was good but then it just got weird. In my opinion once Daniel ascended SG-1 kinda started going downhill and then when they promoted O'Neil thats when it finally died cause after they brought in Ben Browder and I forget the woman's name it just wasn't SG-1 anymore...I and my friends started calling it Farscape SG-1

There won't be some sort of "main big bad". Yes there will be some hostile alien-looking alien species, but the main "big bad" for those people is their own personalities.

man, i still cant get what the story is. so a group of people from stargate command went through a stargate, landed on a ship that was travel space, and they cant get back to earth? am i right? guess just gona have to wait and find out. this series looks way more mature then previous. looks awesom! with this show and caprica coming soon, oh man is this gona be fun!

All i can say is that each SG series has to be Different cause people would be saying that "OMG they did this in that series and they just changed the location or they did it with different characters" All i can say is that i am leaving my judgement till i see the 1st few ep.

AndrewDeLong 2 years ago
Stargate is Stargate, BSG is BSG. It's so simple. And I hope Stargate Universe will be Stargate and not BSG
Nikec33 2 years ago
If its gonna resemble BSG at least in some parts its gonna be awesome, considering SG is more militaristic then just simple adventure adding more drama will make it better... but there is one thing im hoping to see SGU is the beautiful space battle scenes like in BSG, god SG sometimes has such dull battles, hope this one will be different...
AncientAz 2 years ago
This has a BSG feeling to it...dark ambiance/dark tones/dark colors....maybe it will work with Stargate but I have a weird feeling about this one.
Wulfbaine05 2 years ago

AristidesSerrano 2 years ago
Not necessarily a bad thing. As long as they dont fuck up the ending like they did with BSG -.- (hopefully, we'll have to wait a long time for any endings ... ^^)
MarwinRott 2 years ago
i loved the bsg ending, haha
AristidesSerrano 2 years ago
It wasn't bad, but it left too many open questions. I mean ... just take all the "You're the Harbinger of death, Kara Thrace"- stuff. I mean ... where was that ever resolved? She just disappeared while Lee wasn't looking. That's what I meant with fucked up .... ^^
It'd be pretty cool if SGU was a bit like BSG though. There's no good in just copying the old SG series, although some people seem to want exactly that oO
MarwinRott 2 years ago
omg i know, i was mad about that harbinger of death thing, it didnt go anywhere with that.
But yea, i think bsg has a better look and feel than the regular stargates, i hope universe has kinda the same thing going but with obviously their own plots
AristidesSerrano 2 years ago
MarwinRott, BSG had the best ending of all the sci-fi serials ive watched and its a lot...
All stargate endings were retarded, as well as endings of other shows like farscape for example.... Im just hoping that SGU will have BSG-like ending or better, it would be a disappointment if the series would turn out to be good but the ending would suck...
AncientAz 2 years ago
BSG had possibly the worst scifi ending ever conceived, the writers couldn't come up with clever resolutions for all the arcs they started so ended up using the worst explanation imaginable - 'God did it' I mean seriously? How pathetic.
01000001011100100111 2 years ago
Yea.
MarwinRott 2 years ago
Yes they couldnt or didnt want to, but the ending is ending, i mean they landed on earth they started new civilization so on, their journey ended, and the mysteries with God are better left untouched, its for the viewer to think about, im not religious, im just saying that closing everything in the end would look to simple, better leave some mystery here and there... Cuz now we have something to speculate about, its more interesting then just saying, eh it ended.... )))
AncientAz 2 years ago
But what series said 'eh, it ended'? SG-1's story didn't end, hence the title of the finale, and Atlantis ended with lots to think about, I mean the city landed on Earth, there's loads to speculate about. The 'God did it' explanation could be used to wrap up any story imaginable, it takes no thought at all, and a complete cop out by the writers in my opinion.
01000001011100100111 2 years ago
Also agree with this. I think they fucked up on BSG. Dug a big hole for themselves and couldn't get out.
CaptainHep 2 years ago
God did it?You really want to see that kind of ending?
nehorlavazapalka 2 years ago
No i dont want to see 'god did it' in SGU, but in BSG 'god' was kinda part of the show, not like stargate gods, but like god god, mysterious force or whatever... I do wanna see BSG-like ending and better ! And im not talking about 'gods', im talking about how it ended, their journey ended, they found earth so on... In SGA the ending sucked, the final battle was cheap and lame, and now Atlantis is on earth, they could already make Terran Empire with that tech... SG1 had even worse ending than SGA
AncientAz 2 years ago
wow! Stargate just became brutal!
islanumblar 2 years ago
It looks like a mix between Star Trek Voyager, Lost in Space, and the 2003 re-imagining of Battlestar Galactica. It better have the Stargate humor in it like SG-1 and Atlantis had and I hope it does a much better job than Atlantis did. However nothing will ever be good as SG-1, the original though.
TheStarTreker 2 years ago
Stargate should always be a sci-fi show that you can laugh at. In SG-1 they frequently made fun of the ridiculous stuff in sci-fi - and had a good story line.
I'm worried this show is going to take itself too seriously. In an effort to be "different" and "new" - I'm afraid they will lose what made Stargate special to begin with.

I hope it's not like Atlantis, because in that it was more serious than SG-1, The only Atlantis episode I really like was The Tap of Rodney or the one where a womens body was inside Rodney.
alexroney999 2 years ago
I am really interested to see what this new series will be like, though if I'm being honest I don't have very high hopes. I am a big fan of SG1 and Atlantis. They may have been cliche, but they were funny and exciting. The characters had a military background so they took their missions seriously, and weren't conduction endless strings of affairs! Am I really supposed to be getting excited about something which according to this trailer holds no semblance to the original series?
MomoPlum 2 years ago
I'm not sure why it's even an issue, surely most of the shows you watch are very different to SG-1 and Atlantis too?

Survival from what?
apraxeco1 2 years ago
Well they're in a pretty hostile environment, no food, no water etc, not to mention each other, and whatever creature they may run into when they explore through the Stargate looking for supplies. It's a pretty shitty state of affairs they're in all things considered ;P
01000001011100100111 2 years ago
They are stuck on a ship trying to get back to Earth with low supplies and I guess things trying to kill them. Kinda like BSG.... I really hope not.
Winnuting 2 years ago
ooki the reason why i liked SG1 was because it were not taking itself seriously (right up untill mitchell showed up) and OFC McGyver in space XD SrSly Jack was just awsome (as long as he were part of the team... as a general he were pathetic), SGA were awsome because of the McKay's complexes and again because it were not taking itelf seriously.... SGU looks like it grw over the head and is thinking too much of itself .(
JOtruba 2 years ago 5
so whos the enemy?
harshash 2 years ago
There won't be one big cliche enemy like in SG-1 and Atlantis if that's what you mean, the show is more about survival than anything else.
01000001011100100111 2 years ago
ok, survival from what?, the goauld was such a cool bad guy : )
harshash 2 years ago
Well they're stranded with no way of getting home with next to no supplies, there doesn't need to be an enemy trying to kill them for survival to be difficult.
01000001011100100111 2 years ago
soo the thing to be afraid of is running out of supplies?
harshash 2 years ago
Well there'll be enemies, but war won't be the focus of the series, staying alive will be. It'll be much more like 'Lost' for example, than BSG in that respect.
