It would be a waste of resource for NSW Police to check rail tickets which this resources duties should belongs to NSW RailCorp transit officers which they are responsible for detecting fare evasion offences.

Fare easion isn't worth it. I always look at it this way. Paying 5 or 10 bucks one way or return is better than getting worried and worked up if you take the risk of getting caught. Not to mention the $150 fine and 20 questions routine that follows.

This really was not intded as a slam against the NSW police. I completely respect their position and think they do a good job - with far more courtesy than the police in the US. What I find amusing is just how many people I see get busted for fare evasion each day. It's amazing, the number of people who continue to try to cheat. It doesn't cost that much to ride the train. I never cheat, and I never get asked.
