Amazing footage considering it is a talkie. Thanks for posting this. For some reason I thought his voice would be more nasal and have a more pronounced Vermont accent from the accounts I have read. But he does indeed come across here as strident, brittle, and as close-minded as I expected. Fascinating.
He was voted one of the dumbest presidents of American history lmao true story: ......The socialite said that she had bet her friends that she could extract three words from him; Calvin replied coolly, “You lose.”
@Derby14 Coolidge spoke a lot more than that. While he did not listen a lot to radio in its infancy, he liked giving speeches via radio because he reached larger size audiences in his day than if he spoke directly to them in person. He never proclaimed himself to be an " open aired" orator and did not try to be one.
His speaking philosophy: Just speak when something important has to said and speak nothing more.
Oh and any of you Republican supporters out there, when he says he wanted the American people to work less for the Government, he did not mean the top 5%, he and Mellon has the tax code rewritten so that only the top 5% and eventually the top 2% paid any income tax.
Calvin Coolidge only taxed the top 2% and even then, with a 25% tax rate, they still tried to evade taxes with as much zeal as they do now. Sorry, often the private sector has to have its arm twisted to do the right thing.
@UncleMikeNJ Calvin Coolidge isn't responsible for the depression! He didn't believe in Hoover because Hoover for 6 years had given him advice THAT WAS BAD! He chose not to say anything at the risk of splitting the party, and letting a democrat handle the depression worse then Hoover! LIBERALISM DOESN'T WORK!!!!!!
@Meade556 The new deal failed horribly, extending the Great Depression 10 years longer than it should have been and are directly responsible for the financial mess the US is in right now.
@timDOGcrane555 Yeah right, sure, millions of new jobs created, after the recession of 1938 bottomed out GDP was 92 billion, a loss, but consider that when Roosevelt assumed office the NYSE did not even open that day because no one was buying or selling anything, almost all of US Steel's reduced workforce were in fact part time workers, and GDP was down by 33 billion from where it had been in 1929. The New Deal and WWII were massive spates of Govt spending. Sometimes the Govt saves the day.
@batstooge2 Oh you mean the second phase of the New Deal often called the Second New Deal, yeah I do know about that but consider that by 1937 before the stimulus was cut back the economy had grown from 68 billion in 1933 to 98 billion which is why a lot of Morgenthau's worries were unjustified, much of the projected deficits did not materialize as increased economic activity led to increased tax revenues, which controlled the deficits.
@batstooge2 Coolidge IS SO responsible for the Depression because he kept Mellon on as Secretary of the Treasury. And how could ANY President of ANY party handle it worse than Hoover? Well, Coolidge WOULD have, because, compared to him, Hoover WAS Roosevelt.
@UncleMikeNJ Yes compared to Coolidg, Hoover was Roosevelt, I don't know why you see that as a compliment to Hoover because it isn't. And Mellon was a fantastic secretary of the treasury you see Harding and Coolidge actually listened to him and fixed the 1921 depression in a year (compared to FDR's 10 years with the Great Depression) and gave us prosperity in the twenties in which business was actually our friend before FDR demonized it, and gave big business a bad name
@UncleMikeNJ And now people just assume that business always wants to hurt the regular people when in reality we all have the same goals, to prosper and yet with libs trying to make class warfare people now view things as the 99% versus the 1% when they don't have conflicting interests, so if learn to trust business again and not tax them to death then we will be in a much better economic state
@batstooge2 Yeah, they would never ever engage in any exploitative practices here in the US as they do in 3rd world countries, or as they once did here many years ago. No they certainly wouldn't do any of those things, even if given the freedom to (that's sarcasm BTW). As for taxes, does it matter what the official tax rate is when so many not only get out of paying taxes, despite record profits, and get tax rebates on top of that?
The exploitative practices you're talking about were a result of a huge over supply of labor with little demand for labor. This happens to every emerging market when the country switches from an agricultural based economy to an industrial one. It wasn't labor unions or government mandates that made things better, it was industrial economic growth that created demand for labor, lowering the supply, forcing employers to compete for labor.
@jjrglobal What a joke. Yeah people demanding better conditions had absolutely nothing to do with it. It was the goddess of the free market who did it by magic. Industry is always 100% ethical and only has the best interest of people at heart and would never ever do anything underhanded or exploitative. People should just stop picking on those poor misunderstood captains of industry. And we can just get rid of all labor laws, since they did nothing to improve conditions.
If you go back and actually look at history, the conditions were changing years before unions were even started.in this country. Why does 85% of the workforce work for wages above the minimum wage? Labor laws didn't have nearly the effect that demand for labor did in affecting working conditions. Minimum wage laws are the reason for the high unemployment rate of unskilled workers.
@jjrglobal Indeed all of those strikes & protests prior to 1920 had nothing to do with it. I suppose the women's sufferage movement had nothing to do w/ women getting voting rights, the civil rights movement nothing to do w/ civil rights, etc. Uniions created the middle class. Over the last 30 years or so since unions have been weakened & under attack all that's happened is a decline in the average salary, a massive increase in "income" of the very wealthy & a vanishing middle class.
Unions are for people that don't work hard enough or have enough initiative to succeed in their field. Instead of rising on their own merit and hard work, they must rely on collective bargaining. Basically unions are for lazy, losers and thats a fact.
@jjrglobal Sorry guy, you don't have facts. Unions created the middle class. Unions got workers decent pay and improved working conditions. You're an ahistorical idiot. Nothing in this country improved for working people until they took to the streets & demanded it. You're another moron that is quite happy to give all power to big business & then shit all over labor. All that's happened since the decline of the union is a shrinking middle class & lower average wages. You're a fool.
@jjrglobal People like you never brought about any positive change in this country. You'd happily turn this into a corporate fuedal state. As for unions and working conditions of the past, I'll take the words of Theodore Roosevelt on the matter, he was a far greater man than yourself.
@jjrglobal Indeed as someone else pointed out, you sire are an idiot. Pity the maligned industrialist of the past. Of course the massive protests after the triangle fire - workers faced w/ jumping to their deaths or burning alive b/c of locked exit doors + a substandard fire escape that collapsed had nothing to do w/ improved fire regs, + when the owners were later sited for fire reg violations at their new factory, they were just misunderstood not greedy fucks. CONT
@jjrglobal Those days of sending 10 year olds down to work in coal mines, yep those were the days. Teddy Roosevelt once threatened to seize a mine + place it under fed operation back in the early 1900s when management refused to negotiate wages and work place conditions. Teddy was the man. You are aren't. Guy like you would prob orgasim by witnessing the labor conditions of Bangladesh or Indonesia as that is what you want to turn the US into.
@jjrglobal Regarding the minimum wage, thanks for the laugh. Yeah let's have a bunch of people working at $2 an hour, which of course means that even more taxes would have to be funneled into those big bad evil social safety net programs, subsidizing the labor cost of private industry. If one wants to live in a society w/ lax labor laws, where industry can do as they wish, were deplorable work conditions are tolerated, etc. then I suggest they move to China, Bangladesh, etc.
@UncleMikeNJ Hoover was a progressive Republican who bucked the party in 1912 to support Teddy Roosevelt. He rose taxes on the wealthy from 25% to 65% and spent record sums on public works and infrastructure. He passed protective tariffs on agriculture. Hoover was called a socialist by FDR and Cactus Jack Garner in 1932.
@sean2015 He was a man of very, very few words. He was very quiet and always inside of his own shell. And look at his speech pattern. It's very peculiar.

@Kubrick1989 Everything you just said about Coolidge is completely wrong. Learn your history before posting senseless comments. Calvin Coolidge produced a budget surplus every single year of his presidency and cut the national debt by 1/3. He is the last president to balance the budget every year. He also drastically reduced tax rates and revenue increased.
You are completely wrong. Kubrick was talking sense. Look at the facts and look at the economic charts. Calvin Coolidge did not balance any budget and the budget was not balanced every year. The nation still had debt and deficits. Coolidge didn't do anything as president. The republican party and the republican congress was dominated by progressives. If you look at Federal spending and the federal government. Government grew every year under Coolidge.
Spending from the 1916 to 1920 was larger than 1921 to 1929, the reason for that big spending and government in 1916 to 1920 is because of WW1. Spending increased because it was War spending taxes increased because we had to pay for the war
However minus government spending for war, every single section of the economy and of government grew drastically, and taxes were historically high at the time, three times higher than the tax rate prior to WW1. Government grew in the 20s.
Coolidge like Harding preached and campaigned on being small government presidents however, they were never small government presidents. Coolidge allowed a ton of progressive agenda's to pass. More government programs, prohibition, Government corporations, tariff's, anti-trust laws, income taxes, and increased government spending and government growth on all sections of the economy and government accept for defense. Coolidge like Reagan were not small government presidents.
@cinemafreak666 You are one of the most ignorant fools I've ever heard. How more stupid can you possibly be? Spending was reduced. And the budget was balanced every year from 1921-1929. Tax rates were slashed under harding from 77% to in the 50s. And under coolidge they were slashed to 25% and most americans paid no income tax. Coolidge twice vetoed support for farmers. Spending remained at historic lows. National debt reduced by 1/3. Dumbass.
You are possible the biggest idiot I have ever seen on youtube. I have the facts and I am right, you are wrong and don't know what the fuck you are talking about. Spending was reduced because we cut the defense spending because there was no longer a war. That was the biggest bulk of spending and plus it was already getting slashed by Wilson. The tax rates were slashed to 50% under Harding and 25% under Coolidge because again WW1 ended and there was no more war to pay for.
The budget was not balanced at all! It was not balanced every single year either. The National debt was reduced by 1/3 and it was reduced because there was no more war to pay for and all the soldiers were coming back home to get jobs
People did pay taxes, it is a lie created by Coolidge allies that most American's paid no income tax, the facts show and statistics show that it was the completely opposite most Americans still paid an income tax and other taxes, the tax rate was 25%
@cinemafreak666 The tax rate was 25% for the richest americans and zero for everyone else. Federal spending by year - 1923: 3.715 billion, 1924: 3.669 billion, 1925: 3.623 billion, 1926: 3.577 billion, 1927: 3.533 billion, 1928: 3.668 bil. Budget surplus - 1923: 565 mil, 1924: 633 mil, 1925: 425 mil, 1926: 650 mil, 1927: 940 mil, 1928: 660 mil. Surpluses every year moron. From the US Office of Management and Budget.
You are an idiot and again not getting the entire point. The top income tax rate was 25% however that tax rate is still over three times higher than the Pre-WWI years. That is an undeniable fact and it is a lie and not true that only the richest Americans paid that income tax and no one else paid anything. Most American's still paid an income tax and most Americans still had to pay other taxes as well. The tax rate was three times higher than pre-WW1 levels
I did a little more research and I got deficits confused with debt which was my fault but the United States government under Coolidge and Harding and under every president has had debt. Now deficits which deal with Surpluses or deficits you are right in stating that the 1920s had a Surplus. However you are still wrong in saying that it is because they slashed government when government grew during the 1920s and taxes were over three times higher than pre-WW1 levels.
However if you look at Woodrow Wilson in 1913 and 1914. We were completely broken even with no debt. In 1916 we had a Surplus of 48 million and in 1920 we had a surplus of 291 million.
The budget starting getting slashed under Woodrow Wilson and so Harding came into office already with a budget surplus created under Wilson. And since there was no more War, there was no need to spend or tax for it which made it a lot easy in maintaining the budget.
The largest bulk of spending and I mean like 70% of all spending and taxes were because of WW1. WW1 took up nearly 70% of the budget and of spending and of taxes. So yes you will see a big cut when there is no more war. However those numbers in terms of spending is so tiny in the difference that you look desperate in trying to defend yourself. Not to mention in 1928 and in 1929 spending was increased and the numbers were higher.
From US Office of Management and Budget and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics total spending in 1927 was 3.53 in 1928 it was 3.67 and in 1929 it was 3.81. So those last couple years saw an increase in overall total Fed Spending.
However if you look at the data before WW1 you'll see the numbers to be tiny in compared of the number of spending in the 1920s.
These are real numbers coming from BLS and US Office of Management and Budget. They do not look like yours and even the other numbers of just the Federal Government doesn't look like yours so you are not getting your numbers from US Office of Management and Budget or you are manipulating the numbers.
@Willredd94 Now let me give you individual numbers from the Federal Government and Federal spending on all other areas of the government. PENSIONS: GDP-US $ billion 1921 73.603 1922 73.432 1923 85.4 1924 86.9 1925 90.6 1926 96.9 1927 95.544 1928 97.4 1929 103.6 Pensions -fed $ billion 1920 0.00 1921 0.00 1922 0.01 1923 0.01 1924 0.01 1925 0.01 1926 0.01 1927 0.01 1928 0.02 1929 0.02
I know these are a lot of numbers but these are the facts. The Roaring 20s and the 1920s in general had no war and lived in a peacetime economy and the presidents had an anti-war policy which allowed it to spend less and have less taxes for the defense system.
However when you total non-defense spending for practically half of the 1920s saw government growth in non-military spending.
From 1921 to 1924 yes spending in non-defense/military spending was reduced when you add all the totals however practically from 1924 to 1929 the size of the U.S. government in non-military/defense spending grew. So the second half of the 1920s from 1924-1929 so an increase in government growth with non-military/defense spending
Bulk of the spending like 70% was from Defense/military spending for the war and 70% of taxes were for the war so since the war was over, it was reduced
However when you look at specifics and more details you will realize that the second half of the 1920s from 1924 to 1929 government spending in non-military/defense increased and grew.
Tax rates while were cut, were only cut because the war was over and no longer had to pay for it. However the tax rate was still 25% which is over three times higher than pre-WW1 levels. And yes most of America, not just the rich paid an income tax and other taxes, that is an undeniable fact.
The tax rates pre-WW1 were 7%. If we truly went back to conservatism and small government taxes would be pre-WW1 levels. Same goes with spending. Total non-defense/military spending before WW1 was only on average 22.0 where as in the 1920s it's in the 70s. That over three times higher than the levels pre-WW1.
Mostly every section of the government aside from Defense/Military and transportation saw drastic increases in spending. Also there was record high anti-trust laws, Tariff's which are big government, Prohibition, Government Corporations, Federal Aid to States, The Post Office and more all saw drastic increases. Increase funding and continuation on old government programs and organizations continued in the 20s, new government programs and commissions were created in the 20s.
It's undeniable to claim that the 1920s and the Roaring 20s was the decade of small government nor can you say that Harding, Coolidge, and Hoover all were small government presidents. Total government spending including states grew every single year. Federal government spending when you take out defense spending grew drastically from 1924 to 1929. As individual institutions, every non-military government program grew every year in the 20s, taxes were three times higher than pre-WW1
If you have the balls to look at the economic statistics, you will see that every section of the U.S. government grew drastically, government spending also on every section of the U.S. government. Federal Government grew drastically in the 1920s. Taxes were still over three times higher than the pre-WW1 income tax rates which were 7% Anti-Trust legislation was at a record high in the 1920s, Government corporations existed and new government programs and extension of previous ones
Not only did the Federal government grow in the 1920s but State governments grew even more. Government increased during the 1920s that is an undeniable fact. The because causes of the Roaring 20s was the technology created by Wilson in WW1, the increase in government in the way it provided infrastructure and modernization, and government support for business, in terms of Tariffs and subsidies which again is more government. Get your facts right before calling other people stupid
@Kubrick1989 Bill Clinton was the last president who paid down any debt. In all the years before him, who was the last one to do so? Calvin Coolidge. So what does that say for not only Reagan, but GHWB, Carter, Ford, Nixon, Johnson, Kennedy, Ike, Truman, FDR and Hoover? Hey as far as defense, true conservatives will cut back, thats why I like Ron Paul, but until true conservatives have power, itl be same old same old.
@Kubrick1989 Why dont you please come to the realization that taxing or even "taking" 100% from all the rich is still not enough revenue to match the spending, or pay for the debt, or even the interest? Though I guess Obama could maybe tell his GE buddies they could pay some taxes, no? Again, if raising taxes worked, we would see balanced budgets all over the place, but the special interests and politicians keep spending the money as fast as they find it.
@Kubrick1989 Take a look at Illinois and its new "exit tax". Also, to make those unemployment comparisons by state is pure liberal speak. The differences in all those states you mentioned with the exception of the 2nd smallest state (VT) in pop., are literally a percent or tenths of a percent. They might as well all be the same. Each state is different in regards to what they contribute to the economy.
@Kubrick1989 Why do liberals want higher taxes? To pay for necessary govt functions? Sorry, they just spend it even more once they get it (both parties), it doesnt go to pay the bills and thats why I want less money coming in to the government so they cant get their grubby little hands on it and create more entitlements/bureacracies etc. If raising taxes worked, the fed govt, as well as states like NY, ILL, CAL would all be balanced, but no, they just spend spend spend.
@Kubrick1989 Oh stop, democrats have done better? At what? Creating an entitlement society by constantly offering handouts to anyone who will take them? Ok, ill give you that. That is sure making this country better. But hey, after awhile when youve created it to where half the country gets something at the expense of others, why wouldnt they vote democratic? Why lift myself up, il just recieve? You want to know what will create a better economy? Study the man whose page we are typing on.
@Kubrick1989 Were 15 trillion in debt, we lose freedoms every day, were told whats best for us and how to live because government thinks it knows better. Id say the government is too big for people who want their freedom and liberty.
@Kubrick1989 I meant Reagan played the biggest role of all of the US Presidents that were involved with the Cold war. True, Gorbachev deserves credit. He was a different type of soviet leader and he recognized the soviet economy was shit, so did Reagan, and Reagan did his fair share of convincing Gorbachev that capitalism was the way to go.... Please read every objective study of Reagan ever done.
@DBJW82 The Soviets began to respect our military strength under Reagan. They constantly feared that we would strike them, even though that was never our intent. They were also persistent in the US giving up its research (hell it was just an idea for the most part) in SDI. The military buildup was one of the best things Reagan ever did as far as im concerned. Only thing was I was too young for it to be my tax dollars being used.
@Kubrick1989 You credit democrats for job growth in the 80's due to their policies, yet blame Reagan for massive deficits. It wasnt all military, but much of the military spending was needed as the US military was in decline. Weapons and technology were old and useless, moral amongst the troops was low, and recruitment was terrible. The tax cuts? That was Reagan, and it sparked economic growth, took about a year, but the economy began to grow again and jobs were created.
@Kubrick1989 Your right in the sense that it wasnt just Reagan, but many presidents. Most people do know this, but Ronald Reagan perhaps played the biggest role of them all.
@Kubrick1989 Many politicians cheat or do stupid things, we are all sick of it, but to me its another perfect argument for smaller government. Big government is inherently corrupting in the sense that there is too much money, too much power and too many advantages. It makes people do things they shouldnt.
@Kubrick1989 When gas prices were back down into the $1-2 range under Bush, after they reached $4+, the economy still did not improve. I like your optimism though, unfortunately your just repeating talking points. Bin Laden? Hey, he does deserve credit, just as he did with those somali pirates, but lets be honest, you and I could have easily made those decisions. The wars? Im all for bringing the troops home, im tired of the pointless wars, but once the troops come home, unemployment goes up.
@Kubrick1989 Gas prices may go down since he tapped the reserves, but they will still be high, and when the reserves run out, its back to $4. (He knows a double dip is coming) and this is his only answer. About Japan, that was Japan, not the US, the economy sucked beforehand, continues to suck. Libya? He got us there and the gas prices were high before Libya so that makes no sense. Storms and tornadoes? They happen every year, and hey, Bush had Katrina.
@Kubrick1989 OH BTW..........since you liberals LOVE paying so much in taxes (which is bullshit as every rich democrat cheats where they can like Sorros who hides his assets offshore along with Pelosi and her Charlie the Tuna industry) YOU offer to pay more in taxes, OK? Maybe you will be much happier then!
@Kubrick1989 Dude, you are not worth my time...to say that even Anthony Weiner was a good man...well you are just dumb and brainwashed... Go vote for the fucking nigger again and that is exactly what he is......stupid..........a radical Kenyan who came here illegally and has even murdered 3 gay men near Chicago Illinois right before he began to inch up in the polls last dec 2007.......go you tube LARRY SINCLAIR....he tells the story about Obama, who is bisexual
@Kubrick1989 Ignorance is bliss..........even my liberal friend hates Weiner as he works for the people...he had no business showing off his little weiner to a woman...this is silly to even argue about him as he's a jackass egotistical maniac.....and then there was Gary Studs the homo who had boys in his basement but the dems applauded him in congress even after knowing this...then there was Jim Wright, former democratic speaker of the house, who resigned..so don't start this shit..
@Kubrick1989 Yes it shows as they have made a mess of things...LOL........whose in charge now of the Congress after winning over 63 seats last November? Republicans because the stupid ass democrats were in charge since 2006 and all they did was spend spend spend...you may promote them but the folks no otherwise....many states now have republican governors, too. you are amazing as a liberal...always trying to defend big government...
@Kubrick1989 The debt under Obama is bigger than all past presidents combined, you stupid kid....can't you see this or are you blind with your head up your ass? Go read the news and check out the sites..everyone is going against him except for the 47 million on welfare........even the independents are going against him 2 to one and he will be gone next November.....you cannot stay in office with a high unemployment rate and high gas prices...it just is not going to happen bud...
@Kubrick1989 OBAM BAM....the racist black boy who said he had been in 57 states has put us deeper in debt than any other president in the history of this nation...YOU may love him and vote for him again, but the polls and people are going against him as they can see BUSH IS GONE and DUMBO is here and he has NOT helped this nation despite all the money he has spent....shovel ready jobs my fucking ass......get real
@Kubrick1989 Go look at who has posted more on here..........YOU have....you talk too much......cutting taxes always works....the point is we are all paying too much in taxes now....I promise you next year we will see Obama gone and more GOP seats..........I also owned my own business for over 15 years and I know what it takes to pay the bills. WE are over regulated, over taxed and we need real change..not bullshit from a community organizer!
@Kubrick1989 When RR took office in 1981, unemployment was 8.4 percent...after he left it was under 5 percent...in 1981, the inflation rate was over 8 percent...after he left it was under 4 percent....in 1981, interest rates were 20 percent, dude! After Reagan left office interest rates were 10 percent...22 million new jobs were created and the Soviet Union FELL.....Reagan would have done more but the damn democrats would not allow him to cut more government...learn you history...
@Marksnotebook Interest rates is what kills a nation or high gasoline prices and today we have the highest gas prices EVER under DUMBO....NOW why did Obama go to Brazil and tell them that WE"LL buy their fucking oil when they get it drilled? Why does he not just say WE will drill here and now? That would stop the speculators from wondering about gas prices and would stabilize the market in the U.S.A. WE don't need to be buying foreign oil!
@Kubrick1989 Oh bullshit...Obama doubled spending...last year of Bush: 1.8 trillion........first year under Obama's budget passed : double it to about 4 trillion.....he keeps spending and that's the problem and why are we not seeing a recovery now?
@Kubrick1989 And why did people come here from Europe? To get away from high taxes, few freedoms, the Kings, Queens and big government! Learn your history...
@Kubrick1989 HOW did the country survive before Wilson and FDR's big taxes and big government? Yet it did.....now why did people not die out as you crazy left wingers always say will happen?
@Kubrick1989 The federal income tax system did not start until the early 1900s, idiot. Learn your history...the taxes before were for user fees and the percents is what I am referring too...the small tax fees before Wilson were minimal.. ....we are taxed way too much... Abolish the dept. of Ed, energy, EPA, and a few others....we did not have these for the first 150 plus years and the country did not die out. It thrived which proves my point---big government is not needed.
@Kubrick1989 Show how brainwashed and dumb you are---the whole point of the Tea party is government! Do yah get it? Does not matter if its British or American government--people do not like high taxes and lots of regulations! THAT is where you cannot see through the smoke screens, dude. Government is NOT the answer......Government IS the problem.
@Kubrick1989 democrats are worse as they are pure evil.....they are communists. Weiner the joker is a prime example...disgusting. Charlie Rangel, liberal democrat who won't pay his taxes on properties and told Jason Mattera that it was none of his god damn business...ahem...Charlie we're paying your salary! IT IS our business... Republicans are far from perfect, but democrats are nothing but communists...The Scoop Jacksons are gone!
@Kubrick1989 The facts are this: Last November the republicans gained more seats than at any other time in history since the early 1930s...63 Congressional seats.....then 6 plus Senate Seats...9 Governors and over 680 State legislature seats nation wide in all 50 states...the reason is because the Obamacare is NOT desired in this nation and the people want the spending HALTED. Now you can spin it any way you wish but facts are stubborn things. You talk too much and say so little, too.
@Kubrick1989 YOU'RE the fucking 21 year old idiot and your damn file is not with friends either and no page to comment. This is the last posting as I'm not going to continue arguing with an idiot who fills my box in emails and all a bunch of lies and bullshit. Go out and get a job and work and stop spending all your time on the net. Idiots would spend themselves pay check to paycheck. Government does the same thing.
@Kubrick1989 the average unemployment under Bush was 5.5 percent...this jackass is what he is...an Muslim Kenyan radical Black Liberation theology idiot and he will be defeated next year. People are onto him...he knows nothing about government other than anarchy which he is trying to desperately to do...he also stared another damn US involvement in Libya.....WRONG. Reagan was the greatest President of all time. YOU LIE and I wont' argue with an idiot! good day
@Kubrick1989 Abolish the income tax and go to user fees and such as was done before. OUT illegals as they broke the law. Drug test all these welfare people every month and kick em off of the system if they fail the test. Fence up the border, fine businesses who hire illegals. Abolish SS and medicare. LET people invest as they so choose as people know better how to invest their money than government! You're crazy. And btw, OBAMA the Kenyan will be defeated in2012.
@Kubrick1989 Taxes to start with are illegal. The income tax was started in the early 20th century and it has done nothing but climbed and harmed this country. Every time in history there has been a tax increase or more spending it has stifled the economy. GET RID of the tax system. In our beginning the Tea party protested in Boston for paying out a 3 percent tax. My God today when you add federal, state, local and SS taxes-for those paying taxes its over 50 percent. WRONG.
@Kubrick1989 It is survival to keep all societies up and running and to do we don't need big government as it will bring people down eventually. And its impossible to be mr. do gooder to every human...we are not guaranteed a handout if we lose a job. That is something that everyone must understand. Make government smaller and we won't see very many people doing without...you cannot solve every human problem with gov.
@Kubrick1989 We saw a huge massive movement to the right last November of 2010. Polls show people are sick and tired of obama and the left now. Presently we'll probably see a Senate takeover by conservatives with several or more seats to spare and more congressional seats to go republican also. People are losing jobs thanks to Obama, illegals, government spending and that stupid idiot with his "shovel ready jobs" that is a joke.
Obama has spent more money---about 4 trillion per year compared to Bush's 1. 8 trillion per year and what do we have for it? Highest unemployment since the great depression. The real numbers are not 9.1 percent but about 17 percent when you count those who gave up looking for work. Who do you people think you are fooling here? You can look at Detroit--a liberal bastion of politicians and its in ruins. Look at Texas or a conservative state and you'll see much less ruins.
Respond to this video... You want to see jobs you start cutting taxes, spending, abolishing the federal reserve and privatizing banks, industry and drill for oil and minerals here and now. You will then see jobs and a mighty U.S. arise again.
@Kubrick1989 When you tax people more they are harmed more....if you take away a farmers seed for his crops he will starve....take away a man's money to spread the wealth around and the man will starve and the poor will starve also as they cannot bring forth seeds................Communism has never worked....all non sense you silly trolls
All the government in the world cannot save mankind.....Man can only save himself from the tyranny of government. Take away all the goodies and freebies of the handouts and we can still survive without it all....just look to 1800....that answers your question on big government which is a miserable failure...
@Kubrick1989 WE do not need all the spending or taxation of today. People do not change--they must eat, work and raise families...what has changed? Its all about survival and Government is not going to save us.
The numbers under Coolidge dont lie. He deserves no criticism for the WW1 policies prior to him being in office, and deserves none for the years of the depression after he was in office. He presided over a peace and prosperity for 6 yrs, plus 2 as VP and did nothing to ruin that. He was well loved by the people and remains to this day one of the most underrated presidents in history. I WOULD HAVE HATED TO LIVE IN THE 20's! (sarc)
@Kubrick1989 The rate of 25% has not been seen since it happened. Thats over 80 years we have not seen the rate that low.. Put that one in historical context you dumbass. Maybe if Coolidge was President another 4 years and treated the great depression like the 1920 depression it might have gotten to what you consider a low enough rate. So what if it was "high for the times". He gradually reduced it. You cant just go from 77% or 54% to lets say 5%. I have a feeling your taught liberal history.
@Kubrick1989 "Tax rate was high for its time" Umm... again, you are comparing tax rate differences over a short period of time. Actually the 77% was high for its time, that was under WILSON, war or not. Harding and Coolidge lowered the taxes. LOWERED. Quit putting a 52% reduction in this grand historical context like its ridiculously high. Also, good one about FDR reducing unemployment to 1.9%... That officially ends the conversation for me..... folks,,, dont feed this troll.
Coolidge was a great man. He stood for low taxes and an efficient, small government. Hoover, who followed him, was a progressive and handled the 1927 crash poorly. His socialist policies were continued by FDR, who only extended the Great Depression. We know better now. Unfortunately, Obama is a hard core socialist unable to conceive that removing private capital, driving up the debt, micromanaging the economy, and over regulation can't work. Or, even worse, maybe he does understand.
Man ill tell ya, this is the first ive heard that Wilson gets the credit for the roaring 20's despite the mess he left, and Harding ( who died 7 years before the great depression) played a role in causing it. Maybe 7 years from now after Obama is long gone we can blame him if we have another economic mess but in the present we can still blame George W. Bush? As much as people want to blame someone else all the time, i c

sauroid1 4 months ago
@Derby14 Coolidge spoke a lot more than that. While he did not listen a lot to radio in its infancy, he liked giving speeches via radio because he reached larger size audiences in his day than if he spoke directly to them in person. He never proclaimed himself to be an " open aired" orator and did not try to be one.
His speaking philosophy: Just speak when something important has to said and speak nothing more.

timDOGcrane555 5 months ago 3
@timDOGcrane555 Yeah right, sure, millions of new jobs created, after the recession of 1938 bottomed out GDP was 92 billion, a loss, but consider that when Roosevelt assumed office the NYSE did not even open that day because no one was buying or selling anything, almost all of US Steel's reduced workforce were in fact part time workers, and GDP was down by 33 billion from where it had been in 1929. The New Deal and WWII were massive spates of Govt spending. Sometimes the Govt saves the day.

batstooge2 4 months ago
@batstooge2 Oh you mean the second phase of the New Deal often called the Second New Deal, yeah I do know about that but consider that by 1937 before the stimulus was cut back the economy had grown from 68 billion in 1933 to 98 billion which is why a lot of Morgenthau's worries were unjustified, much of the projected deficits did not materialize as increased economic activity led to increased tax revenues, which controlled the deficits.
Meade556 4 months ago
@batstooge2 Coolidge IS SO responsible for the Depression because he kept Mellon on as Secretary of the Treasury. And how could ANY President of ANY party handle it worse than Hoover? Well, Coolidge WOULD have, because, compared to him, Hoover WAS Roosevelt.
UncleMikeNJ 3 months ago
@UncleMikeNJ Yes compared to Coolidg, Hoover was Roosevelt, I don't know why you see that as a compliment to Hoover because it isn't. And Mellon was a fantastic secretary of the treasury you see Harding and Coolidge actually listened to him and fixed the 1921 depression in a year (compared to FDR's 10 years with the Great Depression) and gave us prosperity in the twenties in which business was actually our friend before FDR demonized it, and gave big business a bad name

@batstooge2 Yeah, they would never ever engage in any exploitative practices here in the US as they do in 3rd world countries, or as they once did here many years ago. No they certainly wouldn't do any of those things, even if given the freedom to (that's sarcasm BTW). As for taxes, does it matter what the official tax rate is when so many not only get out of paying taxes, despite record profits, and get tax rebates on top of that?
njanovic1980 4 weeks ago
@njanovic1980
The exploitative practices you're talking about were a result of a huge over supply of labor with little demand for labor. This happens to every emerging market when the country switches from an agricultural based economy to an industrial one. It wasn't labor unions or government mandates that made things better, it was industrial economic growth that created demand for labor, lowering the supply, forcing employers to compete for labor.
jjrglobal 1 week ago
@jjrglobal What a joke. Yeah people demanding better conditions had absolutely nothing to do with it. It was the goddess of the free market who did it by magic. Industry is always 100% ethical and only has the best interest of people at heart and would never ever do anything underhanded or exploitative. People should just stop picking on those poor misunderstood captains of industry. And we can just get rid of all labor laws, since they did nothing to improve conditions.
njanovic1980 1 week ago
@njanovic1980
If you go back and actually look at history, the conditions were changing years before unions were even started.in this country. Why does 85% of the workforce work for wages above the minimum wage? Labor laws didn't have nearly the effect that demand for labor did in affecting working conditions. Minimum wage laws are the reason for the high unemployment rate of unskilled workers.
jjrglobal 1 week ago
@jjrglobal Indeed all of those strikes & protests prior to 1920 had nothing to do with it. I suppose the women's sufferage movement had nothing to do w/ women getting voting rights, the civil rights movement nothing to do w/ civil rights, etc. Uniions created the middle class. Over the last 30 years or so since unions have been weakened & under attack all that's happened is a decline in the average salary, a massive increase in "income" of the very wealthy & a vanishing middle class.
njanovic1980 1 week ago
@njanovic1980
Unions are for people that don't work hard enough or have enough initiative to succeed in their field. Instead of rising on their own merit and hard work, they must rely on collective bargaining. Basically unions are for lazy, losers and thats a fact.
jjrglobal 4 days ago
@jjrglobal Sorry guy, you don't have facts. Unions created the middle class. Unions got workers decent pay and improved working conditions. You're an ahistorical idiot. Nothing in this country improved for working people until they took to the streets & demanded it. You're another moron that is quite happy to give all power to big business & then shit all over labor. All that's happened since the decline of the union is a shrinking middle class & lower average wages. You're a fool.
njanovic1980 4 days ago
@jjrglobal People like you never brought about any positive change in this country. You'd happily turn this into a corporate fuedal state. As for unions and working conditions of the past, I'll take the words of Theodore Roosevelt on the matter, he was a far greater man than yourself.

@jjrglobal Those days of sending 10 year olds down to work in coal mines, yep those were the days. @jjrglobal Regarding the minimum wage, thanks for the laugh. Yeah let's have a bunch of people working at $2 an hour, which of course means that even more taxes would have to be funneled into those big bad evil social safety net programs, subsidizing the labor cost of private industry. If one wants to live in a society w/ lax labor laws, where industry can do as they wish, were deplorable work conditions are tolerated, etc. then I suggest they move to China, Bangladesh, etc.
njanovic1980 1 week ago
@UncleMikeNJ Hoover was a progressive Republican who bucked the party in 1912 to support Teddy Roosevelt.

@Willredd94 Thank you....very wise and learned comments
mrspriscillakat 7 months ago
@Willredd94
Government grew every year under Coolidge.
cinemafreak666 6 months ago
@Willredd94
Government grew in the 20s.
cinemafreak666 6 months ago
@Willredd94
Coolidge like Reagan were not small government presidents.
cinemafreak666 6 months ago
@cinemafreak666 You are one of the most ignorant fools I've ever heard. How more stupid can you possibly be? Spending was reduced. And the budget was balanced every year from 1921-1929. Tax rates were slashed under harding from 77% to in the 50s. And under coolidge they were slashed to 25% and most americans paid no income tax. Coolidge twice vetoed support for farmers. Spending remained at historic lows. National debt reduced by 1/3. Dumbass.
Willredd94 6 months ago
@Willredd94
The tax rates were slashed to 50% under Harding and 25% under Coolidge because again WW1 ended and there was no more war to pay for.
cinemafreak666 6 months ago
@Willredd94
The budget was not balanced at all! It was not balanced every single year either. The National debt was reduced by 1/3 and it was reduced because there was no more war to pay for and all the soldiers were coming back home to get jobs
People did pay taxes, it is a lie created by Coolidge allies that most American's paid no income tax, the facts show and statistics show that it was the completely opposite most Americans still paid an income tax and other taxes, the tax rate was 25%
cinemafreak666 6 months ago
Willredd94 6 months ago
@Willredd94
The tax rate was three times higher than pre-WW1 levels
cinemafreak666 6 months ago
@Willredd94
I did a little more research and I got deficits confused with debt which was my fault but the United States government under Coolidge and Harding and under every president has had debt. Now deficits which deal with Surpluses or deficits you are right in stating that the 1920s had a Surplus. However you are still wrong in saying that it is because they slashed government when government grew during the 1920s and taxes were over three times higher than pre-WW1 levels.
cinemafreak666 6 months ago
@Willredd94
And since there was no more War, there was no need to spend or tax for it which made it a lot easy in maintaining the budget.
cinemafreak666 6 months ago
@Willredd94
Not to mention in 1928 and in 1929 spending was increased and the numbers were higher.
cinemafreak666 6 months ago
@Willredd94
From US Office of Management and Budget and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics total spending in 1927 was 3.53 in 1928 it was 3.67 and in 1929 it was 3.81. So those last couple years saw an increase in overall total Fed Spending.
However if you look at the data before WW1 you'll see the numbers to be tiny in compared of the number of spending in the 1920s.
cinemafreak666 6 months ago
@Willredd94
Plus if you look at total spending Both Federal and State you'll get these numbers
1923: 9.63, 1924: 9.98, 1925: 10.37, 1926: 10.78, 1927: 11.22, 1928: 11.44, 1929: 11.68.
These are real numbers coming from BLS and US Office of Management and Budget. They do not look like yours and even the other numbers of just the Federal Government doesn't look like yours so you are not getting your numbers from US Office of Management and Budget or you are manipulating the numbers.

I know these are a lot of numbers but these are the facts. The Roaring 20s and the 1920s in general had no war and lived in a peacetime economy and the presidents had an anti-war policy which allowed it to spend less and have less taxes for the defense system.
However when you total non-defense spending for practically half of the 1920s saw government growth in non-military spending.
cinemafreak666 6 months ago
@Willredd94
Bulk of the spending like 70% was from Defense/military spending for the war and 70% of taxes were for the war so since the war was over, it was reduced
cinemafreak666 6 months ago
@Willredd94
And yes most of America, not just the rich paid an income tax and other taxes, that is an undeniable fact.
cinemafreak666 6 months ago
@Willredd94
The tax rates pre-WW1 were 7%. If we truly went back to conservatism and small government taxes would be pre-WW1 levels. Same goes with spending. Total non-defense/military spending before WW1 was only on average 22.0 where as in the 1920s it's in the 70s. That over three times higher than the levels pre-WW1.
cinemafreak666 6 months ago
@Willredd94
Mostly every section of the government aside from Defense/Military and transportation saw drastic increases in spending. Also there was record high anti-trust laws, Tariff's which are big government, Prohibition, Government Corporations, Federal Aid to States, The Post Office and more all saw drastic increases. Increase funding and continuation on old government programs and organizations continued in the 20s, new government programs and commissions were created in the 20s.
cinemafreak666 6 months ago
@Willredd94
As individual institutions, every non-military government program grew every year in the 20s, taxes were three times higher than pre-WW1
cinemafreak666 6 months ago
@Willredd94
If you have the balls to look at the economic statistics, you will see that every section of the U.S. government grew drastically, government spending also on every section of the U.S. government. Federal Government grew drastically in the 1920s. Taxes were still over three times higher than the pre-WW1 income tax rates which were 7% Anti-Trust legislation was at a record high in the 1920s, Government corporations existed and new government programs and extension of previous ones
cinemafreak666 6 months ago
@Willredd94

DBJW82 8 months ago
@Kubrick1989 Why dont you please come to the realization that taxing or even "taking" 100% from all the rich is still not enough revenue to match the spending, or pay for the debt, or even the interest? Though I guess Obama could maybe tell his GE buddies they could pay some taxes, no? Again, if raising taxes worked, we would see balanced budgets all over the place, but the special interests and politicians keep spending the money as fast as they find it.
DBJW82 8 months ago
@Kubrick1989 Take a look at Illinois and its new "exit tax". Also, to make those unemployment comparisons by state is pure liberal speak. The differences in all those states you mentioned with the exception of the 2nd smallest state (VT) in pop., are literally a percent or tenths of a percent. They might as well all be the same. Each state is different in regards to what they contribute to the economy.
DBJW82 8 months ago
@Kubrick1989 Oh how i long for only 2.7 trillion of debt.
DBJW82 8 months ago
@Kubrick1989 Why do liberals want higher taxes? To pay for necessary govt functions? Sorry, they just spend it even more once they get it (both parties), it doesnt go to pay the bills and thats why I want less money coming in to the government so they cant get their grubby little hands on it and create more entitlements/bureacracies etc. If raising taxes worked, the fed govt, as well as states like NY, ILL, CAL would all be balanced, but no, they just spend spend spend.
DBJW82 8 months ago

DBJW82 8 months ago
@Kubrick1989 I meant Reagan played the biggest role of all of the US Presidents that were involved with the Cold war. True, Gorbachev deserves credit. He was a different type of soviet leader and he recognized the soviet economy was shit, so did Reagan, and Reagan did his fair share of convincing Gorbachev that capitalism was the way to go.... Please read every objective study of Reagan ever done.
DBJW82 8 months ago
@DBJW82 The Soviets began to respect our military strength under Reagan. They constantly feared that we would strike them, even though that was never our intent. They were also persistent in the US giving up its research (hell it was just an idea for the most part) in SDI. The military buildup was one of the best things Reagan ever did as far as im concerned. Only thing was I was too young for it to be my tax dollars being used.
DBJW82 8 months ago
@Kubrick1989 You credit democrats for job growth in the 80's due to their policies, yet blame Reagan for massive deficits. It wasnt all military, but much of the military spending was needed as the US military was in decline. Weapons and technology were old and useless, moral amongst the troops was low, and recruitment was terrible. The tax cuts? That was Reagan, and it sparked economic growth, took about a year, but the economy began to grow again and jobs were created.

@Kubrick1989 Jobs will continue to get outsourced as long as we have the highest CIT the world.

@Kubrick1989 Bill Clinton also benefited from the tech boom as well as moderating with the Republican Congress in reducing the size of government.
DBJW82 8 months ago
@Kubrick1989 Your right in the sense that it wasnt just Reagan, but many presidents. Most people do know this, but Ronald Reagan perhaps played the biggest role of them all.
DBJW82 8 months ago
@Kubrick1989 Many politicians cheat or do stupid things, we are all sick of it, but to me its another perfect argument for smaller government. Big government is inherently corrupting in the sense that there is too much money, too much power and too many advantages. It makes people do things they shouldnt.
DBJW82 8 months ago
@Kubrick1989 Your right, Congress has been under Democratic control that much, and we are 15 trillion in debt.
DBJW82 8 months ago
@Kubrick1989 When gas prices were back down into the $1-2 range under Bush, after they reached $4+, the economy still did not improve. I like your optimism though, unfortunately your just repeating talking points. Bin Laden? Hey, he does deserve credit, just as he did with those somali pirates, but lets be honest, you and I could have easily made those decisions. The wars? Im all for bringing the troops home, im tired of the pointless wars, but once the troops come home, unemployment goes up.
DBJW82 8 months ago
@Kubrick1989 Gas prices may go down since he tapped the reserves, but they will still be high, and when the reserves run out, its back to $4. (He knows a double dip is coming) and this is his only answer. About Japan, that was Japan, not the US, the economy sucked beforehand, continues to suck. Libya? He got us there and the gas prices were high before Libya so that makes no sense. Storms and tornadoes? They happen every year, and hey, Bush had Katrina.
DBJW82 8 months ago
@Kubrick1989 OH BTW..........since you liberals LOVE paying so much in taxes (which is bullshit as every rich democrat cheats where they can like Sorros who hides his assets offshore along with Pelosi and her Charlie the Tuna industry) YOU offer to pay more in taxes, OK? Maybe you will be much happier then!
Marksnotebook 8 months ago
@Kubrick1989 Dude, you are not worth my time...to say that even Anthony Weiner was a good man...well you are just dumb and brainwashed... Go vote for the fucking nigger again and that is exactly what he is......stupid..........a radical Kenyan who came here illegally and has even murdered 3 gay men near Chicago Illinois right before he began to inch up in the polls last dec 2007.......go you tube LARRY SINCLAIR....he tells the story about Obama, who is bisexual
Marksnotebook 8 months ago
@Kubrick1989 BTW.....democrats don't give a shit about cheating so why should you?
Marksnotebook 8 months ago
@Kubrick1989 Ignorance is bliss..........even my liberal friend hates Weiner as he works for the people...he had no business showing off his little weiner to a woman...this is silly to even argue about him as he's a jackass egotistical maniac.....and then there was Gary Studs the homo who had boys in his basement but the dems applauded him in congress even after knowing this...then there was Jim Wright, former democratic speaker of the house, who resigned..so don't start this shit..
Marksnotebook 8 months ago
@Kubrick1989 Yes it shows as they have made a mess of things...LOL........whose in charge now of the Congress after winning over 63 seats last November? Republicans because the stupid ass democrats were in charge since 2006 and all they did was spend spend spend...you may promote them but the folks no otherwise....many states now have republican governors, too. you are amazing as a liberal...always trying to defend big government...
Marksnotebook 8 months ago
@Kubrick1989 The debt under Obama is bigger than all past presidents combined, you stupid kid....can't you see this or are you blind with your head up your ass? Go read the news and check out the sites..everyone is going against him except for the 47 million on welfare........even the independents are going against him 2 to one and he will be gone next November.....you cannot stay in office with a high unemployment rate and high gas prices...it just is not going to happen bud...
Marksnotebook 8 months ago
@Kubrick1989 OBAM BAM....the racist black boy who said he had been in 57 states has put us deeper in debt than any other president in the history of this nation...YOU may love him and vote for him again, but the polls and people are going against him as they can see BUSH IS GONE and DUMBO is here and he has NOT helped this nation despite all the money he has spent....shovel ready jobs my fucking ass......get real
Marksnotebook 8 months ago

Marksnotebook 8 months ago
@Marksnotebook Interest rates is what kills a nation or high gasoline prices and today we have the highest gas prices EVER under DUMBO....NOW why did Obama go to Brazil and tell them that WE"LL buy their fucking oil when they get it drilled? Why does he not just say WE will drill here and now? That would stop the speculators from wondering about gas prices and would stabilize the market in the U.S.A. WE don't need to be buying foreign oil!

@Marksnotebook The chinese are drilling off our Floridian coast...Indians are doing it also........NOW why not us?

@Kubrick1989 Oh bullshit...Obama doubled spending...last year of Bush: 1.8 trillion........first year under Obama's budget passed : double it to about 4 trillion.....he keeps spending and that's the problem and why are we not seeing a recovery now?

@Kubrick1989 And why did people come here from Europe? To get away from high taxes, few freedoms, the Kings, Queens and big government! Learn your history...
Marksnotebook 8 months ago
@Kubrick1989 HOW did the country survive before Wilson and FDR's big taxes and big government? Yet it did.....now why did people not die out as you crazy left wingers always say will happen?
Marksnotebook 8 months ago
@Kubrick1989 The federal income tax system did not start until the early 1900s, idiot. Learn your history...the taxes before were for user fees and the percents is what I am referring too...the small tax fees before Wilson were minimal.. ....we are taxed way too much... Abolish the dept. of Ed, energy, EPA, and a few others....we did not have these for the first 150 plus years and the country did not die out. It thrived which proves my point---big government is not needed.
Marksnotebook 8 months ago
@Kubrick1989 Show how brainwashed and dumb you are---the whole point of the Tea party is government! Do yah get it? Does not matter if its British or American government--people do not like high taxes and lots of regulations! THAT is where you cannot see through the smoke screens, dude. Government is NOT the answer......Government IS the problem.

IT IS our business... Republicans are far from perfect, but democrats are nothing but communists...The Scoop Jacksons are gone!
Marksnotebook 8 months ago

Marksnotebook 8 months ago
@Kubrick1989 the average unemployment under Bush was 5.5 percent...this jackass is what he is...an Muslim Kenyan radical Black Liberation theology idiot and he will be defeated next year. People are onto him...he knows nothing about government other than anarchy which he is trying to desperately to do...he also stared another damn US involvement in Libya.....WRONG. Reagan was the greatest President of all time. YOU LIE and I wont' argue with an idiot! good day
Marksnotebook 8 months ago
@Kubrick1989 Abolish the income tax and go to user fees and such as was done before. OUT illegals as they broke the law. Drug test all these welfare people every month and kick em off of the system if they fail the test. Fence up the border, fine businesses who hire illegals. Abolish SS and medicare. LET people invest as they so choose as people know better how to invest their money than government! You're crazy. And btw, OBAMA the Kenyan will be defeated in2012.
Marksnotebook 8 months ago

Marksnotebook 8 months ago
@Kubrick1989 We saw a huge massive movement to the right last November of 2010. Polls show people are sick and tired of obama and the left now. Presently we'll probably see a Senate takeover by conservatives with several or more seats to spare and more congressional seats to go republican also. People are losing jobs thanks to Obama, illegals, government spending and that stupid idiot with his "shovel ready jobs" that is a joke.
Marksnotebook 8 months ago
Obama has spent more money---about 4 trillion per year compared to Bush's 1. 8 trillion per year and what do we have for it? Highest unemployment since the great depression. The real numbers are not 9.1 percent but about 17 percent when you count those who gave up looking for work. Who do you people think you are fooling here? You can look at Detroit--a liberal bastion of politicians and its in ruins. Look at Texas or a conservative state and you'll see much less ruins.
Marksnotebook 8 months ago
Respond to this video... You want to see jobs you start cutting taxes, spending, abolishing the federal reserve and privatizing banks, industry and drill for oil and minerals here and now. You will then see jobs and a mighty U.S. arise again.
Marksnotebook 8 months ago
@Kubrick1989 When you tax people more they are harmed more....if you take away a farmers seed for his crops he will starve....take away a man's money to spread the wealth around and the man will starve and the poor will starve also as they cannot bring forth seeds................Communism has never worked....all non sense you silly trolls

All the government in the world cannot save mankind.....Man can only save himself from the tyranny of government. Take away all the goodies and freebies of the handouts and we can still survive without it all....just look to 1800....that answers your question on big government which is a miserable failure...
Marksnotebook 8 months ago
@Kubrick1989 WE do not need all the spending or taxation of today. People do not change--they must eat, work and raise families...what has changed? Its all about survival and Government is not going to save us.

@Kubrick1989 ARE you stupid or just brainwashed or an Obama plant?
Marksnotebook 8 months ago
The numbers under Coolidge dont lie. He deserves no criticism for the WW1 policies prior to him being in office, and deserves none for the years of the depression after he was in office. He presided over a peace and prosperity for 6 yrs, plus 2 as VP and did nothing to ruin that. He was well loved by the people and remains to this day one of the most underrated presidents in history. I WOULD HAVE HATED TO LIVE IN THE 20's! (sarc)
DBJW82 8 months ago
@Kubrick1989 The rate of 25% has not been seen since it happened. Thats over 80 years we have not seen the rate that low.. Put that one in historical context you dumbass. Maybe if Coolidge was President another 4 years and treated the great depression like the 1920 depression it might have gotten to what you consider a low enough rate. So what if it was "high for the times". He gradually reduced it. You cant just go from 77% or 54% to lets say 5%. I have a feeling your taught liberal history.
DBJW82 8 months ago
@Kubrick1989 "Tax rate was high for its time" Umm... again, you are comparing tax rate differences over a short period of time. Actually the 77% was high for its time, that was under WILSON, war or not. Harding and Coolidge lowered the taxes. LOWERED. Quit putting a 52% reduction in this grand historical context like its ridiculously high. Also, good one about FDR reducing unemployment to 1.9%... That officially ends the conversation for me..... folks,,, dont feed this troll.
DBJW82 8 months ago
Coolidge was a great man. He stood for low taxes and an efficient, small government. Hoover, who followed him, was a progressive and handled the 1927 crash poorly. His socialist policies were continued by FDR, who only extended the Great Depression. We know better now. Unfortunately, Obama is a hard core socialist unable to conceive that removing private capital, driving up the debt, micromanaging the economy, and over regulation can't work. Or, even worse, maybe he does understand.
aardvark1111 8 months ago
Man ill tell ya, this is the first ive heard that Wilson gets the credit for the roaring 20's despite the mess he left, and Harding ( who died 7 years before the great depression) played a role in causing it. Maybe 7 years from now after Obama is long gone we can blame him if we have another economic mess but in the present we can still blame George W. Bush? As much as people want to blame someone else all the time, i c
