  • i learned to play 1:38 not too long ago and it is extremely fun to play! one of the sickest polyrhythms ive heard in a long time!

  • chinese cymbals are so great. can't get enough of them.

  • Tomas is one the the few drummers to have built in MIDI.

  • Comment removed

  • I used to be this good at drums...then i took an arrow to the knee..

  • Stengah!!!

  • @plowingzero captain obvious strikes again

  • that's awesome! he's physically and great player but the brain is always the #1 muscle in use!

  • He's augmented.

  • He's the god of drum...

  • Best drummer alive in my opinion. Meshuggah is also the worlds best band, again, in my opinion. Fucking love you Tomas.

  • This song is Stengah if your wondering.

  • What the hell is wrong with his elbow? lol

  • @CoolEditz He was beaten by a vampire 20 years ago. After that, he became a robotic-metronomical-polyrhythmic-semi-automatic organism that haunts every drummer that dares to play polyrhythms.

Some say that the vampire's name is Morgan Agren.

  • @CoolEditz it's a tattoo

  • @CoolEditz Nothing, that's just hydraulic pump inside his robotic arm.

  • Go listen to your fucking gay Dillinger Escape Plan

  • Nothing compare Morgan Agren i think.. :P

  • Eh.. I don't like the sound of his cymbals but overall pretty bad ass

  • Cymbals sound like ass terrible all around

  • Notice he made a pretty major mistake there, the pattern starting at 0:32, he plays two additional beats in the end of the pattern, so that's 4 and half measures. Lövgren at the background is seemingly confused there haha.

  • @rololoo Tomas Haake has never made a mistake and never will, unless his CPU gets a virus.

  • @rololoo not a mistake . You clear haven't heard Stengah

  • @DillingerEscapeMan

Haha. I've heard their songs thousands of times and I know them thoroughly. Go take a listen yourself.

  • @DillingerEscapeMan

You probably don't even know how to follow the pattern in the first place and can't hear the 4/4 behind it, so you don't know what I'm talking about and just go straight "HURR DURRR IT'S NOT A MISTAKE"

  • @rololoo I just listened to the part back with the Meshuggah audio over the top and there is absolutely no error here. Don't pretend you're the rhythm king mate, you don't seem to know what you're talking about, and the Dick Lovgren does mess up. Lay off the cocaine

  • @DillingerEscapeMan *doesnt

  • @DillingerEscapeMan

"the Dick Lovgren does mess up". THE Dick Lövgren? Funny stuff.

If it was something that only the bassist did (screw up something), we wouldn't even hear it in this video. I don't understand your logic at all, so I can't help but assume you think I'm some hater who came here to bash Tomas Haake while I was right all the time about his mistake with the rhythms. Again if you don't really know the song, don't bother starting something with me.

  • @rololoo I misunderstood homey - you said 0:32 so I was like nah no mistake here. but there was indeed a mistake a little bit later - my bad - apologies. Yeah the I said the - Don't hate G . Peace roloollloolll

  • @rololoo In fact I take that back - suck my dick . you dont like dillinger you minge

  • There is an error at 0:39 though, not 0:32 - silly billy...cunt

  • @DillingerEscapeMan

First you say you find no error and then you admit that there is. Also I said "in the end of the pattern that starts at 0:32", asshat.

  • Thomas Haake and Danny Carey. Best of the best. And they've even played a song live together.

  • This guy and Thomas Pridgen are my two favorite drummers. Dave Grohl's up there just because Nirvana was so fantastic, and the drumming just FIT, but if we're talking about technical skill, it goes to Haake and Pridgen.

  • rock jazz style

  • I swear to god, I actually feel sorry for the people that think this is out of time!!!

to never experience the joy that these beats bring to the brain!!!

  • Why has a guy below put vinnie Paul in his list of drummers. He's good, but he's not amazing lol

  • @Tombkingretr0 So? He's in one of the great band in the genre "death metal" in one of the only bands that really can growl/scream and really play the guitars!

  • @epicKiipa *was in one of the only bands. there are a lot of bands that fit your category of ' bands that really can growl/scream and really play the guitars!' :P

  • You're an idiot

This guy is like GOD of keeping time

  • White people should just stay away from the drumset, seriously LOL. They don't know how to keep a beat. They just play random shit over and over again.

  • @VitalSigns1 Could you be any more of an obvious troll? Something random can't be played over and over again... If so, it's called a beat/pattern/rhythm, which doesn't make it random... Just because you can't keep up with it doesn't mean no one else can...

  • @KovertKitty There's no coherency to his patterns, he can't keep time...rap and hip hop beats are steady and got rhythm

  • @VitalSigns1 lmao... ooooh Vital... You have fallen victim to ignorance... If only you knew what polyrhythms where....

  • @VitalSigns1 don't be ignorant. learn some time signatures.

  • @VitalSigns1 I assume you're of African descent? If it is so, then it's funny that you would bash a white guy for doing polyrhythm.

  • Thomas style is Aggressive, Groovey and just f***n Mean!!

  • Damn, that guy should be a ninja, withe kind of coordination he has. All those different times at once, shoot...

  • This is why i love progressive music.

  • Comment removed

  • Stunning! I can't even count that but i KNOW its all right on time!!

  • 1. Moon 2. Baker 3. Bonzo 4. Ward 5. Peart 6. Lombardo 7. Vinnie Paul/Carey 8. Haake 9. Hoglan 10. Adler And thus you have the chronological list of those who, imho, have done it for Metal over the years, hands down (of course, Moon, Baker, Bonzo etc. weren't so much "metal" as they were precursors/pioneers that without influenced many to come)
  • @5StarDegenerateZach excuse the bad grammar...

  • youtube.com/watch?v=YOvAoDG9Z2o

  • @Fluffypopcicle

LOL! Yeah. I always thought that Eric Carr (KISS Circa 1980) was an exellent drummer. There are alot of good drummers out there.

  • 1. Tomas Haake

    2. Vitek (R.I.P.)

    3. Neil Peart

just my cup of tea, all amazing drummers.

  • @Fluffypopcicle no offense, but you forgot Danny Carey and Tim Yeung... ;)

  • @5StarDegenerateZach Tim Yeung is absolutely shit, but Danny is alright.

  • @ryder187mac right man.. you definitely know what talent is!! Shit... Danny is a GOD. You see, musicians generally don't succeed in technical styles of music WHEN THEY ARE ABSOLUTE SHIT, as you say. Tim Yeung is a master. Bow down, fool.

  • @5StarDegenerateZach And YOU know what talent is?

Tim Yeung's playing is tasteless and absolutely boring. So much for "technical playing", eh, he plays the same thing over and over again at high speeds. As I said, Danny is good, but gets more praise than he deserves.

  • @ryder187mac actually, I do! Even if you are going off of 5 Star Degenerate, my punk band from 10 years ago, that dude was one of the best technical punk drummers I've heard. These days, I'm actually playing with low and behold, someone along the lines of Mr. Meshuggah himself.. You need to realize that Yeung fulfills a style, and executes it with razor sharp perfection. How can you say that he does the same thing over and over again? facebreaker.. look it up. dude's a machine. undeniable. done.

  • @5StarDegenerateZach Drumming isn't about being a "machine". I could also say "undeniable. done." now, but I'm not that arrogant. What he does is the same thing, single stroke rolls over and over again while looking tense and uncomfortable. Practicing for so long and being able to play so little shows a stagnation and lack of progression... where does talent fit in there?

It would also be nice if your posts were a bit more clear.

  • @ryder187mac stagnation? How does some stagnant worthless drummer, who just does the same thing over and over again, get the gigs that Tim Yeung has landed? Sorry man, respect must be given where respect is due. Notice that I haven't put down a single drummer in my writing, and thus regarding arrogance, you might want to look into a thing that those in the field of psychology call "projection". Lastly, I'd like to hear your drumming. Give me a taste of some ace anti-stagnation mastery, sir!

  • @5StarDegenerateZach and what gigs has Tim Yeung landed, are they THAT impressive? Thing is, he was getting gigs in a single genre where the one thing he can do was enough for the gig.

also cool hint bro at "projection", but it's not the case, thing is, you're putting Yeung in a category with Peart and Haake. Hell, why even Yeung? There's much better blasters, Kollias, Roddy, Longstreth, just to name a few

  • @ryder187mac listen, obviously you know your drummers, and you have your opinions.. and that is just fine. Free country and all that shit... but you just can't say a professional drummer of that caliber is SHIT, dude! You can not like his style, hair, snare drum sound, choice of triggers/brain, or whatever.. but when someone has gotten to his level, I'm sorry, he is not SHIT. Top notch bands and musicians don't play with SHIT.. especially metal-based genres. Good talkin tho, take care Ryder182!

  • Eric Carr was the best drummer i ever heard closely followed by Nico McBrain from Iron Maiden such good drummers.

  • @FilGee100

mcbrain isn't that special. he played outside of his drumset, that's the only jaw-dropping thing he has ever done.

  • The most creative drummer in heavy music PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!

  • another polyrythm master are Bill Brufford and Vinnie collaiuta.

  • 1. Neil Peart

    2. Mike Portnoy

    3. Tomas Haake

My personal inspirations and current heroes.

  • @nuppe10

    1. Jarzombek

    2. Sean Reinhart

    3. Steve Shelton

  • :52 to :55 WTF WAS THAT AMAZING DRUM FILL!!!!

  • where is the rest of the vid? THEY ARE PLAYING SOUL BURN AT THE END GOD DAMNIT AND I DEMAND TO SEE IT

  • danny carey vs tomas haake????

  • polyrhythms are easier to play when you feel them instead of thinking about how to play them

  • @SytzeKZ word

  • polyrythms is pretty much offbeat drumming. it's like you learn your whole life to play on time, then when your so advanced, you learn how to play off beat

  • @DistortedBrain

    Excellently put.

  • Everyone seems to be talking about speed and brutality of metal drumming theses days and how good that is, but this guy here has gone way past that, and into a completely new dimension of drumming altogether, while still keeping it just as brutal and face-punchingly amazing as metal should be. In my opinion, one of the most skilled and probably the most innovative drummer out there today.

  • im not a fan of this band per se, but i think this guy is a great drummer, i'd also almost like this band on just the drummer alone. he is pretty fricken good! i like the riff he's playing at 1:11. however nicko mcbrain + owe lingvall are still my fav metal drummers.

  • 83 people don't know about rhythms.

  • Does anyone know the sticking/feet for 52s-55s?

  • no F U D@ve 10mbard0 is leik a million tiems bettar. God I hate some people, Tomas Haake is THE greatest drummer in metal, NOBODY has shit on him. NOBODY.

  • A tie between him and Peter Wildoer, then the rest comes after them, leaving those speed freaks who are playing blast beats at fucking 800000000 bpm outside and guys like marco minemann who is genius but not a fulltime metalhead.

And that's it,you got haake and wildoer, the finest on metal drumming.

  • this sucked major ass

  • Who's Joey Jordison?

  • @ksw33n3y It's almost all stengah but just flows into soul burn at the end.

  • Comment removed

  • don't see why everyone jacks off to dave lombardo when there's this dude

  • @Kingddd333

    so true

    hes like joey just

    over rated don't

get me wrong hes good but ain't shit to this guy joeys good 2

  • I've jacked off to Lombardo MANY MANY times. Haake is just in another level in drumming skills and his precision unbelievable. Dave isn't the fastest drummer, but he has excellent fills and his live perfomances are nearly always awesome. Listen to South Of Heaven-song or Seasons In the Abyss-song. He has the touch that only few people have.

  • @VeliOlavi You are right about that... he's best at fills

  • @VeliOlavi Just wonder why everyone says he's the fastest... there are so many faster ones out there

  • He is the "fastest metal drummer of the eighties" and the Angel Of Death's double bass-fill was so cool. He has inspired many nowadays metal drummers and I think many 1960-80 born Slayer-fans just can't "hear" faster drumming than Lombardo has. They just can't admit it.

  • @VeliOlavi agreed. Dave is a flavor beast. When Lombardo is playing, you know it. Love his tumble-fills..

  • @Kingddd333 Honestly, I hear more people talking about Joey Jordison from slipknot when Thomas Haake could just destroy him.

  • Are you sure it's stengah? Because it sounds like soul burn.

  • @itsnotbutter13 yes sir, its soul burn, i could only tell from the last part.

  • @ksw33n3y It is stengah lol, not soul burn...

  • love stengah

  • I kinda miss the badass 22" Power Bell ride nowadays..

  • @theSyringe Me too man you just cant beat it

  • stengah /../

  • is this stengah? I aint no drummer

  • @tanakarf yes it is stenga

  • he's a good drummer, yet meshugga sucks

  • @TheH8rs says the troll who isn't going anywhere or doing anything remotely close to what they do in a days time. how's yer mom's basement ? killer.

  • @TheH8rs ..or maybe they don't suck; it's just that you're having a hard time understanding music. Poor you.

  • @TheH8rs says you

  • @TheH8rs <- who cares if this guy doesnt like it? are you all really that emotionally guarded about your musical tastes that you are sensitive to anyone who doesn't like them? Hell, I don't like them either. I just don't like the way they sound. Is this some horrible blasphemy? No, grow the fuck up and stop getting pissed because not everyone likes the same music as you. Fucking morons.

  • @theGodlyOne2 haha :)

  • Great song he is playing...

  • 1:1o yeah

  • Please tell me hes just warming up

  • @larubiamia like u could do any better fag

  • @larubiamia Why?

  • Best drummer on earth.

  • i dont get the "needs more cow bell" can someone fill me in on the inside joke besides the ovious fact that it has no cow bell or is that the joke?

  • @dallen3000 Its a skit from SNL with Will Farrell and Christopher Walken...

  • @dallen3000, from that SNL sitcom with blue oyster cult skit, truly lame in regards to this video of course

  • wtf looks like he's playing to a brick wall..

  • I hate it when the pedal sound cant be heared....

He looks like playing only 2 songs, not 4 .... ><

  • he does some shit in there that sounds like steve judd from karnivool????

  • looks like Chris Adler of lamb of god

  • @dannythemute hmmm not really.

  • @dannythemute

    - the jesus beard

  • @dannythemute Excuse me.. Chris Adler looks like him.

  • lol @ cowbell. Such a great S&L skit

  • Tomas Haake is a human octopus. One word can sum up his drumming......AMAZING

  • STENGAHHHHHHHHHHH =D

  • 82 people should die.

  • @Tylerthemetalking relax there, guy

  • @adoll000 They should man who would not like this?

  • I was having too much eargasm from Tomas's drumming and I missed the like button :'(

  • wow good

  • TOMAS IS A MONSTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • is this a song? if it is, what is the name?

  • @drummer5193 The song is Stengah

  • what song is this?

  • anyone care to explain the beat at 1:45?

  • @californiadude98 It's still 4/4. He hits the snare on the on-beats.

  • @easierplans but what is the actual pattern because he variates on the way he hits the snare

  • @californiadude98 I haven't really tried to decipher the pattern he's doing on the cymbals, but if you start counting to 4, with the first snare hit as the first 1, the snare is always on the 1.

  • @californiadude98 dont forget the ghost notes

  • @0mnidimenti0nalC0bra Yeah, I was tempted to say "excluding the ghost notes," but I figured he'd get what I meant.

  • stengah!

  • I love when people that know what they are talking about, don't spell the shit they are talking about, correctly. Just a side note for you.

  • Tomas Haake FTW!

  • 82 dislikes are probably Tico Torres fans.

  • no it's true most of their stuff to the admission of them is 4/4...

  • STENGAAAHHHHH!!!!!! :D

  • It's like watching the drumkit from hell.

  • and thats why we love Meshuggah!

  • stengah!!!!

  • mistake, at the last comment

the time value in stengah is 8's not 16's.

i challenge anyone to point me out to a meshuggah riff that is actually not 4/4

i havent heard their old material though so who knows

  • @ 0:33 nose itch?

  • How is his last name pronounced?

  • Scandinavia does metal and safety very well!

  • This is Soul Burn, I THINK...?

  • @gavquinn Stengah

  • hmmmmm Rational Gaze. delicious.

  • @esquerdo or is it stengah? =P

  • This is incomprehensibly good...

  • Comment removed

  • @partyboysproduction you have no idea what you're talking about.

  • Needs more cowbell.

  • @bigfatbass lol totaly agree with u haha

  • @bigfatbass fuck that, cowbell needs more tomas

  • wat song is he playing?
