  • while animals do indeed require moral consideration, I feel the extent to which they deserve such consideration needs to be quantified in some way. for example, I don't think you could compare killing a spider to killing a gorilla. a reasonable way to quantify the "worth" (not the best word) of an animal is to examine their intelligence, as it can give insight into their level of consciousness. pigs, cows, and chickens fail mirror tests, suggesting that they are not self aware.

  • good points, however I must disagree with a number of them, first I do enjoy meat, it's my favorite food, but I abhore the mass meat industry, I get most of the meat I DO eat from the animals(ducks, geese, chicken and lamb) from my (rather small) farm, and i purchade beef from my neighbour who farm cattle,

the reason I have a problem with eating my cats and dog is that you have them for a reason, dogs help out in the management and control of other animals like sheep, and cats keep mice down

  • what the hell is wrong with sweatshops??

they bring money to underdeveloped countries, most of the time they get paid much much better than the hot and hard alternatives.

I also take my BBQ very seriously.

  • Here's a thought: you mentioned that there were knives found with cavemen. It could be very possible that the cavemen (already possessed of elongated teeth suitable for tearing/chewing meat) might have discovered the utility of a knife and started opting for that. They did it for so long, then, that homo sapien teeth became duller - they had tools to replace the sharper teeth and, via evolution, those fangs and canines and what all were just bred out of the species.

  • Meet and (especially dairy) consumption actually exibits signs of addiction.

  • I have heard such things, but I've never really seen any concrete 'proof' of this.

  • Dr. Barnard (founder of Physicians for Responsible Medicine) this radio program mentions the addictive properties of dairy... its a somewhere in one of these videos. When you have time listen to the multiple part interview.

    watch?v=mwyUvUOGz1Y

  • Is that the same Dr. Barnard who was president of the PETA Foundation (also known as the "Foundation to Support Animal Protection")? Just more PeTA propaganda.

  • I dont know know if you would consider this proof or not, but a few months ago i tried to give up meat but within a couple weeks my body had all but shut down, for lack of a better term, after i ate a cheeseburger (on doctors orders no less) i was back up on my feet in no time so.... i would say meat does have some kind of addictive property.

  • i agree with you i have tryed to become a vegetatian but i cant resist a good steak i do understand where you are coning from

  • LOL @ Tyrtamus, and people who try to make themselves seem intelligent by using defamatory comments inferring that my genitalia is somehow supposed to be insulting to me, really piss ME off.

I'd rather be a TWAT than an ASSHOLE.

  • While I do agree, that the current system of meat production is producing suffering, I must also point out, that even the most "green" vegetable farming does so likewise. You have to work the ground to prepare it for the plants - thus killing thousands of insects and worms, who are as sentient as the animals in tzhe slaughterhouses. If we like it or not, just by being alive and eating (anything) we create a certain amount of suffering.

However you are right, ... CONTD.

  • You miss the point about vegetarianism/veganism. Its not about being perfect, its about reducing suffereing were possible. It takes little effort to stop eating meat. It takes slightly more effort to take out all milk and eggs.

  • Also I think another thing that should be pointed out is that The human Mind that we so cherrish, has its copasity to form such oppinions because of the development it earned (And continues to do so) From the injestion of the proteens from meat products. I do not think meat eating is crew, or indicitively wrong if one does so RESPONCIBLY. Either threw eating as Vixy pointed out organic raised meat, OR eating only that which you can hunt or raise, and to take it a step further using every thing.

  • Quanyin, I hate to say it but your rant is about 20 years to late. Factory farms are dying, despite their larger volume the quantity vs.quality of decent treatment meat is killing them off. (Not to mention the Humane Society's successful efforts for more ethical treatment) As for the moral argument, there's nothing wrong technically with eating a cat most people would find it icky because we form emotional pack bonds with them. Something you can't do with chickens or cows. Stupid word limit.

  • More people aren't doing it because vegetarians like you piss us off to no end. I hate holier-than-thou twats.

  • Wah wah wah, are you going to cry home to mommy because vegetarians "pissed" you off? And who said that vegetarians claim to be holier than thou? It sounds like you are projecting your own insecurities onto vegetarians.

  • 1) I'm a conservative meat eater, eating 20-40% meat. I like to buy grain fed & free range animal products.

    2) Humans have domesticated all these animals you mentioned for about 10,000 years, but there were various reasons why humans domesticated the ones we did.

    3) Humans have been eating meat since before we made fire, after fire, we began cooking our meat. Experiments proved that eating cooked meat increased the size of our brains! Evolutionary speaking, our bodies are well adapted to it!

  • Well meat tastes good. As shallow as that sounds we(humans)like things that stimulate our senses. Why do we eat things like candy or drink things like soda that have no nutritional value?

Orgainic food is about health and nutrition. Be it animals or plants they're treated much more humanly,

Processed food is about taste and shelf-life. Unlike they're organic counterparts animals and plants are pumped with hormones and chemicals before the slaughter.

    I'll stick to organic.

  • I see the point you are making. In my case, I simply found it more cost effective to go vegetarian. Not everyone has access to organic food, unfortunately.

  • human beings are omnivores, that is we do require animal protein. but not a huge amount,

our ancestors would have been carrion eaters.

that is picking through the remains, of another animals meal. day to day nuts, seeds, fish and vegetables, would be their main food source inland. with the addition of seafood and sea birds at the seashore. :D

  • If you're vegetarian you probably eat soy based products. Processors crush soybeans using hexane an industrial solvent that is a by-product of gasoline. Hexane is a major air pollutant, off-gassing into the atmosphere. Hexaneprocessed soy protein isolate is sent to natural food brands and manufacturers, offering soy bars and protein powders. The soy protein ingredients in most nonorganic foods such as vegetarian burgers and nutrition bars are processed with the use of Hexane.

  • Solae, a major supplier of soy protein ingredients found in vegetarian burgers, energy bars, and other all-natural foods, emitted nearly one million pounds of hexane, as a pollutant, from its factories in Ohio and Illinois. Its plant in Bellevue, Ohio, is the nations seventh largest emitter of hexane, releasing more of this hazardous air pollutant than other major sources such as Exxon Mobils oil refinery plant in Baytow, Texas, and Firestones tire factory in Orange, Texas.

  • Have you ever been to a slaughterhouse or a sweatshop OR have you just read what PETA tell you.. I'm not attacking I'm trying to get you to READ and do your own research.. instead of being fed by this new pop culture bullshit, I'm vegetarian but in no way would I force others to THINK my way thats fascist, nor would I use bullshit to lie to people about why they shouldn't eat meat or buy cloths that are apparently made by kids.

  • As a matter of fact, here in Fayetteville, Arkansas there are chicken farms and processing plants all over the place. Tyson's corporate office is a short drive from my house. And if you watched the entire video you'd have seen my caption that I despise PeTA and their tactics.

  • i have watched your video or i wouldnt of left a comment, like i said i wasnt attacking i was just saying you need to look in to things for yourself before you state them

  • also you can buy organic, where the cows chickens what ever roam free, they are happier and healthier, there are better methods. but there are health reasons we need red meat, it helps build muscles.

  • Actually even though we have canines there are other reasons we are suppose to eat meat, there are enzymes to break down meat,. We are omnivores we are suppose to eat meat and veggies.

Also I have aunts who raise cows for slaughter, I've also seen how things work in Canada, it may be different in the US. But in Canada slaughter house workers respect the animals there are lots of laws in place to protect these animals. They die clean deaths. Granted I've never seen a factory farm at all here.

  • Hey "lilvixenchica" That's cool. Even if I am "meant" to eat meat according to your own theory, I still don't. I've been a vegetarian for more than twenty years and I'm happy that way, thank you very much! :)

  • Agreed

  • hey quanyin its AW, im a subscriber and a fan of your bitching lol but i think that the reason we dont eat dogs and cats is because they are domestic animals. granted that some people take hippos and other strange creatures into theie home but i think that thats why its wrong to eat them. i do eat me but i see it as survival and i know that i could survive off of tofu and the other nasty shit they make..but meat is too good. you do make alot of good point in your vid. keep doin what your doin =)

  • Ok no offense meant to you...I love your vids but I do disagree. Farmers follow strict USDA guidelines for disposal of waste products and if they do not their farms are shut down! And speaking as a girl raised on a small goat and cattle farm chicken litter makes some of the best fertilizer. Also, I have to ask, how is not eating meat going green? Please explain this I would love to know more about your side of the issue. Being a farm girl myself I think it is important to know both sides. -Star
