to each their own!! i'm a trainer, depending on the horse, sometimes a crop is needed, also depending on a trainer, some like the use of crops and will only teach with the use of crops, others dont, and one like me go by horse! If using a crop during jumpin was abusive, they wouldnt allow it at places like the rolex, and the Olympics!!

It depends on that specific horse, and the training that has occured to it. Obviously she isn't sitting there beating it with the crop, so there's no real reason to sit here and argue.

Theres a pretty bold line between abuse, and a little help from the crop. A small tap is what some horses are trained to wait for, in order to go faster, and may need more leg etc.. Don't talk about something you have no real experience, or informational ideas about.

oh my lord some people are so ignorant. whips are not abusive if used correctly. there is nothing wrong with them! and seriously think about it.. horses kick EACHOTHER, do you really think a tap on the shoulder or behind your leg is going to hurt them? and spurs arnt abusive either if you know how to ride right with them and you have a good leg.. sheesh!

@ILuvMeg111 i can assure you this horse would NOT have jumped this without the encouragement of the crop and i do use my legs along with the crop. i have barely taken any days off from riding since 2005, other than when i broke my knee and short vacations, and i ride up to 9 horses a day, everyday, so i can assure you my legs are strong and i use them. please don't comment if you don't know what you're talking about.

I hate when people say, "dont whip your horse". Whips are not ment to hurt a horse, merely as a training tool. The only reason people say that it because there are ignorant fucks in this world who do whip their horse for no reason. But not everyone equestrian rider does that, only good riders use it when necessary. Plus, not like a whack on the shoulder hurts that much anyways, its probably better then two spurs digging in your sides. Think about it.

@inahorses sometimes leg isn't always enough. Hell. there's a horse at my barn who won't respond to kicking and would prefer a small crop to the shoulder or back than strong leg. So long as you are using your leg, it's fine to use a crop/whip or whatever you'd like to call it as an outside aid.
