Tell the people the real message of Ring Around the Rosie. I know the historical background and cringe whenever I hear children sing it. Most Mother Goose and very old songs have historical references, some awful.
@Limastudent Oh indeed, and "London Bridge is Falling Down" has a verse about sacrificing children to ensure its safety, a common practice in those days. "See Saw Margery Daw" has a verse about her prostituting herself... It's been ages since I looked those up!
@akawhut Heh yep. I deliberately chose clips of bad Schuhplattler (from a German comedy sketch) because I figured this song originally would have been performed by Americans pretending to be German (and in America the common stereotype for Germans is Bavarian specifically), thus they wouldn't have been good at it.
@Keeper1st Thank you. Event though I am a born german, I can barely understand those guys. That's because they're bavarian. That also the channel they appeared on. Bayerischer Rundfunk (Bavarian Broadcast), but it's still funny to watch those hillbillys.
@WormyLeWorm For a while, I've wanted to do videos of songs that everybody is familiar with, but few actually know. For example, did you know that the chorus of "Jingle Bells" had completely different music when the song first was published as "The One-Horse Open Sleigh"? or that "Ten Little Indians" (which also was written by Septimus Winner) had entirely different music as well? Both songs were simplified to make them easier to sing.
I certainly did not, but details like that are something to always consider plausible. There's always more depth to everything than it seems. Probably the most popular example of this kind of thing is Korobeiniki. I'm a glutton for pedantry as well; Information like this pleases my brain.

I liked that history lesson alot! Please do more songs like that that we think we know. I'd love to hear the origins of more songs. :)

Personally, I liked the singing. Though I'd have to say it sounds more like cheesy-pirate accent than bad-German accent!
